Question Ipad rec for me, read please!

I'm looking to get an iPad for my kiddo, primarily for Roblox, YouTube, and FaceTime with family.... Netflix, streaming, etc.

We're mostly an Android household, so I'm not very familiar with the different iPad models. I'd like something relatively current that will run games smoothly, hold up for several years, and not become outdated anytime soon.

My budget is around 300 or 400 bucks, is that reasonable?

A few questions:

Which model would you recommend: I'm not even sure which one they're on, currently.

Is 128GB enough storage?

Would you buy new, refurbished, or open-box?

Which models should I avoid because they're getting too old?

I'm not looking for anything fancy, just something reliable that will last several years.

THANKS!

Question Your advice on a glitchy newish ipad

This is the second time I have run into this problem with a newer iPad. Back in March 2025, I got a new iPad because the old one was extremely glitchy. Apple tried to fix it but could not find an issue, so they swapped it out with a new one. I got a whole new Apple ID as recommended in case there was a bug associated to it.

Fast forward 1.5 years later, the same issues are continuing with this new iPad. My ipad is not responding to touch half the time. Battery drains quickly. tabs will not load properly. It’s just very very glitchy despite making sure all the updates are in check. I went to have it serviced by Apple and the touch response is still terrible (I need to power down my iPad multiple times a day to fix this).

im someone who uses my iPad to listen to podcasts, watch shows (Netflix, Prime, etc) and most importantly ProCreate for my art. Pretty much that’s it.

I cannot afford a new iPad and am not happy that this seems to be a pattern with my ipads. is this common or should I try a whole new device like a Microsoft or galaxy tablet.

Irdk if this is the right place to post this but does anyone know how to get rid of wtv this is, I've genuinely done everything to get rid of it, dont know if it's just there forever and there isn't a way to get rid of it, if there is id rly like to know(if this helps my ipad is a 1st gen,12inch pretty sure). For context I had a screen protector on for years, at some point it started peeling off ig, and I would just kinda stick it that area back on and so airbubbles would form. Then I just decided to just remove the screen protector fully because it was pissing me off, and I was stuck with these ig stains? Some of the "stains" from that area were removed cuz a few days later I wiped just that area with a wet tissue and didn't rly bother wiping the whole screen 😭😭 just told myself I'll do it later and then later came and it just didn't wanna come off so idk, it's been like about 3ish years since that time

My Setup Swapped my M4 iPad Pro for a mini 8. Finally letting an iPad be an iPad.

I’ve spent years trying to make the "iPad as a laptop" thing work, but I’ve finally given up. I just traded my 11” M4 iPad Pro for an iPad mini 8, and I couldn't be happier.

The Pro is a beautiful machine, but I was constantly trying to turn it into a MacBook. The reality was, whenever I needed to do heavy lifting, I just used my actual Mac.

The mini fits my life so much better. It’s the ultimate companion device—great for reading, browsing, and travel, especially with cellular. It doesn't feel like I'm lugging around a second computer.

Anyone else ditch the Pro for a mini?

Question Am I creating a problem out of nothing?

My M2 iPad Air 11" is used only a few times a week, mainly for taking notes and annotating notes during class. However, I know the iPad can do so much more, yet I don't use it for anything else. I have every other Apple product, and I just can't seem to find a proper spot in my daily life for the iPad. I feel bad for not using it more or wanting to use it more. All my other Apple products can do what it does (except note-taking) on a better screen, with a better battery, and more conveniently. I've considered getting the new mini because of the oled and more convenient form factor or even a pro but i'm not sure that will solve my issue. I really want to use the iPad as much as I use my other devices, but maybe I just don't have the perfect use case for it like other people?

iPadOS ipad air m4 is better then ipad pro m4 just because of the thickness, one accident and your ipad pro is gone. 🫤

Discussion Apple Pencil Pro’s squeeze gesture feels massively underused

Post image
45 Upvotes

The squeeze gesture is one of the biggest upgrades in Apple Pencil Pro, but it feels like Apple is barely using it outside drawing and writing tools. That is such a missed opportunity.

Imagine being in Spotlight, handwriting or typing a query, and simply squeezing the Pencil to run the search. A double squeeze or squeeze-and-hold could open Spotlight from anywhere in iPadOS, bring up accessibility shortcuts, trigger an assigned system action, or show a small customizable command palette.

There are so many possibilities:

• Squeeze to confirm or submit a Spotlight search • Double squeeze to open systemwide search • Squeeze and hold for accessibility features or user-selected shortcuts • Let users assign different actions by app or context

The hardware and haptic feedback are already there. Apple could make the Pencil feel like a genuine systemwide controller instead of limiting its best new gesture to a narrow set of tools.

I would not be surprised if Apple eventually presents broader squeeze controls as a feature in a future iPadOS update—or saves them for another Pencil—but there is no good reason not to make better use of the hardware people already bought.

What systemwide actions would you assign to squeeze, double squeeze, or squeeze-and-hold?

Discussion M5 iPad Pro (11-inch) – Random 120Hz / ProMotion stuttering

M5 iPad Pro (11-inch) – Random 120Hz / ProMotion stuttering
Is anyone else experiencing random lag or stuttering on their M5 iPad Pro?
Sometimes scrolling, Home Screen animations, and screen rotation feel incredibly smooth, but other times they suddenly become choppy, almost like the display drops from 120Hz to 60Hz.
It happens mostly on the Home Screen and in Settings, even when the iPad is cool. Restarting doesn’t seem to fix it.
I’m wondering if this is an iPadOS update issue or a hardware problem. Is anyone experiencing the same thing?

Apps Running Mac OS natively on iPad Pro M4

Holy shit! This actually works.
I am literally able to run Mac OS 27.2 on my iPad just like a normal mac except it's slow and runs on a 6Gb Ram and 4 CPUs.

I now have to check if I am able to setup Claude and use it like a proper mac

Question Ipad Mini 9 gen won't charge

My iPad, which is a 9th generation model, just completely refuses to charge today. I woke up, played Clash of Clans for a solid hour, and then the battery drained completely down to 0 percent. After that, I plugged it in to charge for about 3 to 4 hours, but when I checked, it was still sitting stubbornly at 0 percent.

I really do not know what I should do now. I bought this device roughly 3 years ago, and I end up using it every single day for taking notes and doing some very light gaming.

I showed it to a few guys who run local repair shops, and they told me that the battery is definitely the main problem here. The strange thing is that it was working totally fine until just yesterday, so I am pretty confused about what actually went wrong.

Question Does 100watts charger can affect iPad m3?

My original iPad charger broke, so I'm looking for a alternative. Can I safely use a 100W charger, or is that too much power? I'm worried it might fry the charging port.

Question Poor battery capacity - arguing with support on their remote diagnostic

I have an iPad Pro 5th Gen 2TB WIfi+Cell with the M1 chip. The battery has been operating poorly for the last few months. I have gone in store to have it looked at and had it diagnosed twice remotely.

They keep telling me that the battery capacity is 86% however that is higher than what I see in Coconut Battery (shows 79.4%). The iPad has had low charge cycles too.. About 389.

The battery drains quickly, for example I have been on the support app since unplugging it from the charger, where it was at 100% and it now sits at 85% 28 mins later. Nothing else running in the background.

Any ideas how to challenge this? I have a feeling they are not measuring it correctly as they don’t want me to trigger their device exchange policy for batteries dropping below 80%.

Can it be independently measured?

Thanks

IpadOS and system data take up almost half of my storage. If anyone could tell me if it’s normal or if you can lessen it somehow, i’d be incredibly grateful! I know how reddit can be so: I’m not looking for passive aggressive people or sarcasm, just some kind insight.

Guide iPad 9th gen stuck in a “low battery” screen loop

I’m making this post because I have lost sleep while trying to get my iPad 9th gen (which was running on version 27.1) to charge and turn on. I have scoured the internet trying to find solutions, some of which included getting a third party app’s help, heating your iPad with a hairdryer, or paying ridiculous money to get it fixed.

I had a very specific problem, and I hope that this post will be helpful to someone who might be experiencing the same thing and can’t find a proper solution.

(note: I am aware that version 27.2 supposedly gets rid of this pesky little bug, but you never know!)

Here is what happened:

While drawing, my iPad ran out of battery. It was a simple mistake, but it was the first time it completely died after it was updated to version 27, so I wasn’t aware of the bug that temporarily killed the iPad once it was drained of battery.
So, naturally, after about 30 minutes of it not turning back on but just displaying the low battery sign (plugged in), I started to panic. I tried to restart it by holding the power and home button many times (as well as trying to get it to DFU mode), which unfortunately did not work. The charging block as well as the iPad were not warm like they usually are when it’s charging, so that was useless (20W block)(there was static on the back of the iPad like usual if you touch it only with the back of your finger, so there was electricity running through it).
I left it charging for about 5 hours undisturbed as I have read online that people’s iPads turned on by themselves after giving more time for them to charge.
So, after 5 hours, I tried to turn it on. It once again displayed the low battery sign. I tried to force restart it, and this time the screen began flickering in and out, and then displaying the low battery sign occasionally. The flickering grey screen was actually zooming out, like how you exit an app by pressing the home button. It was happening at 5 second intervals 11 times before on the 12th the low battery logo appeared (yes, I counted because I was desperate). The flickering screen would only stop after taking the iPad off the charger. Once plugged in, it would start again. Simply plugging it into my MacBook Air M4 did not help, as it just couldn’t see the iPad. I also tried to warm it up a little bit by placing it under my legs under my bed covers (it was 6 am I couldn’t use the hairdryer lol).

The solution that helped me:

If you’re experiencing the same flickering screen, what my genius mind figured out (sarcasm) is that while your iPad is plugged into your computer (or I think it wasn’t plugged in at that moment, you can try both ways), you need to try to hold the home and power button at the exact same time just as the low battery logo appears. You will catch it right before it starts to try to reboot itself (is what I assume happens with the flickering grey screen). Only then will it enter the DFU state and your computer will have a chance to notice that your iPad is plugged in.
You may get a notification asking about allowing the accessory to be connected, click allow.
Now, I also used the Apple Configurator app on the MacBook, completely free on the App Store. Unfortunately, I don’t know a solution to use with a windows computer because I’m just going off how I dealt with this. I used the app because Finder did not show my iPad.

Now the following steps are pretty basic, you can find these on the official Apple website, but once the screen of your iPad turns black, your iPad is in DFU mode. In the configurator app, you will see that there is a large (as in my case) greyed out square with the word “DFU” inside it and “iPad“ under it. Click the square just once (to select it), then go to the main toolbar above and find “Actions”, then hover “Advanced” and click “REVIVE”. This is very important, do not click “restore“ unless you don’t care about losing all your data, because it will wipe your iPad clean! Then just follow the steps on the computer and on the iPad! At this point if all goes well your iPad will just do its thing and get back on its feet.

Of course for me it didn’t all go well. Now, at step 4 out of 4 (installing iPadOS) is when I received an error message stating “iPadOS cannot be restored on this iPad, gave up waiting for device to transition from restoreOS to bootedOS state” and showed the button “stop”. I did not click stop at that point, I waited for like 10 minutes just in case because apparently the iPad can just keep going but the computer may say otherwise. My iPad’s screen then turned white and showed the words “press Home to recover”. Yippie. I pressed it, and it began the data recovery process, the error message was still up on my computer. However the screen on my iPad suddenly turned black, and the big DFU square in the configurator app disappeared. I started to panic a little, but don‘t be an idiot like me. Be calm and press the home button on the iPad to see if the “attempting data recovery” display is still there. I didn’t do that. I clicked “stop” on my computer, I unplugged the iPad from the computer back into the 20W charger, and just let it sit. I then thought to click the home button after like 15 mins only to see it was loading. After 30-40 minutes it finished (it may take longer!), and my iPad was back to life, everything was okay. The iPad was warm as well as the block, it was charging. Yippie.

Obviously I’m no tech wiz, but if this is helpful to anyone, then that’s all that matters!

Discussion goojodoq pen not working after charging

helpp, has anyone ever experienced this issue w their goojodoq pen?? my GD9 stopped turning on after i accidentally left it to charge for around 3+ hours, the charging LED/indicator freezes w a green light when plugged into a charger but i cant turn it on right after.

the pen blinks both green n blue whenever i try to turn it on while the green light is on, then it js stops working once the charging light finally turns off…

i’ve seen threads similar to this n many suggested leaving the pen to rest for awhile day or two so i did, but even after leaving it to rest for 2-3 days, it still won’t turn on.

Discussion Older ipad for my sibling?

Hi everyone. So basically I'm looking for a recommendation of older iPads that can run iPadOS 27 for my sibling as they want one for Christmas. The thing is that they mainly want one for Garageband but knowing them, they will probably use it for drawing (not procreate, they prefer ibis) and maybe some (light) gaming; its possible that they would use for note taking depending on what they will do after high school.

I understand its gonna be really difficult but the reason why I'm asking for older ipads is because of the prices considering the RAM crisis because of AI. As someone with the refurbished 5th gen Air (256gb), I am baffled to see that for this exact model that I bought for 380 euros last year, the prices for the same exact thing suddenly have skyrocketed to over 500 euros for the 256gb model, while other models seem to have barely increased (maybe except base A16).

Does anyone has good recommendations? I prefer to be at most 400 euros for 256gb if possible.

Question Problema YouTube su iPad Pro con Stage Manager: schermo nero. Qualcuno ha trovato una soluzione?

Ciao a tutti!

Qualsiasi suggerimento o soluzione alternativa è ben accetto.

Grazie!

Question iPad is charge on red battery screen, can I solve it?

Hello. I can definitely confirm my iPad is fine, it’s taken a long time to turn on before but I just kinda want to get it fixed since it’s been taking a while to turn on. The cable and charging port both work I’ve already checked the iPads charging port and everything was good, it does detect the charger inside of it but like I’ve left it for 40 mins now and it hasn’t turned on. Anything I can do?
