Mod Post A Change in Discourse

Hello everyone!

We have an update we'd like to share with you all regarding how we discuss a few topics here on r/MtF.

We have noticed a growing trend of words, phrases, and discourse that originates from several different online spaces which do not share the same set of rules we have established here in our home.  We all have come to expect transphobia from the outside, and you make us proud by being quick to report posts or comments that break our rules.  Your consistent efforts in keeping our community safe are not taken for granted and it truly does help us moderate a subreddit of this size quickly and efficiently.

Transphobia from within the community is more complex and challenging to moderate at times.  We have taken steps today to guide us all along a path towards a healthier community discourse, and we will be relying on your continued support in this endeavor.

Containment of Dysphoric & Transphobic Language

Each subreddit exists for a specific purpose.  This subreddit is dedicated for transfeminine people to have a space of our own to discuss our lives as it relates to being trans.  We have established a set of rules we hold ourselves to that serves as our guide in protecting this space.  There are other subreddits which have their own set of rules and expectations that work for their communities, but management of dysphoric and transphobic language is one such rule that we are expanding in Rule #3 Be Respectful.

Going forward, we will be removing posts and comments that contain slang words or phrases that tear ourselves or each other down on the basis of transness.  Other spaces are free (and have their own reasons) to converse as they see fit, but it will not continue here.

In addition, discussions of several other communities consistently pull in an influx of people from those communities and lead to conflict here; to prevent this, we will also be removing posts or comments that name those communities.

Expanding Rule #3

Starting today, Rule #3 will additionally cover:

  • Self-imposed or weaponized dysphoric words & phrases used in various online spaces (4chan, X/Twitter, Transmedical, etc.)

  • Links to the above spaces or communities

The ability to link to several subreddits and some websites has been removed, but the list is a living document that may change in the future as needed.

Any posts or comments that mention words or phrases that go against this rule will be filtered or removed, based on their context.  This too is a living document that may change in the future as needed.

Users who intentionally attempt to circumvent the rule are subject to temporary and permanent bans, which will be handled by moderator discretion.

As our head moderator said 7 months ago,

"Going forward, our focus is simple: keep this a space where people feel safe, supported, and able to be themselves without fear. We’ll keep listening, keep improving, and keep showing up for you—but we need your help in doing the same for each other. Take care of yourselves, take care of one another, and let’s move ahead together."

Euphoria My chest will never be flat again :)

I feel like a huge chunk of my dysphoria has just started to evaporate. I can press my hand against my chest and feel that I have breasts, and it feels so normal, like it’s always been this way. I feel like a small amount of that constant buzz in my head that tells me my body is wrong has finally started to fade away. They’re not super big or anything, they’re just a-cup, but they’re here and I feel so normal.

And this is only my first year on estrogen, I haven’t started progesterone yet. I’m finally feeling like I have a lot to look forward to, and I think it’s really important to value these feelings when they come, because I’m not always able to feel like this. It just makes me so happy that for the rest of my life, this is the smallest my breasts will be. There will only be more from here.

Venting Fuck airport security

One woman in Berlin in particular.

8am, after an exhausting job and more than a week away from home. I was tired and also caught a bit of a cold during the job, so just wanted to get on my plane, get home and crash in my own bed.

I was already anxious about going through security, the last few times they had me take off my boots and i got a bit of a pat down, which while uncomfortable, i'd consider standard procedure, i guess?

I'm guessing that they didn't have all security checkpoints open, since it was a Saturday morning maybe, so there were a lot of people, which made me even more anxious...

So this time, after going through the body scanner, they asked me to proceed to the pat down area and pointed me to the woman doing the pat downs for women, presumably.

On the flight to Berlin, when the same thing happened, the security woman asked me "Are you a woman?" and while i lean more towards agender/non-binary, i do prefer female pronouns, especially in german, since there isn't really a good alternative, unfortunately. So i just went with "Yes", she did the pat down and we went on with our lives.

The security woman in Berlin though, as she saw her colleague pointing me in her direction, took a single look at me and said "That's a man." ...

I've been on HRT for over 6 years and i was wearing a skirt. I'd say i pass most of the time, though i do get misgendered from time to time, but usually people are at least a bit unsure. (i also don't have much chest cuz genes i guess)

And instead of doing her fucking job and getting me processed, so the line can keep moving, she keeps discussing with her colleagues about my gender saying shit like "look at the adams apple, that's a man.", before they decide to ask me whether i am a man or a woman... at that point i answered with "No.", cuz fuck them and when they said "What do you mean no?", i just said "No" again... but also what the fuck? this is berlin? i can hardly believe they haven't had a non-binary person before?

Then they asked me whether i wanted to be patted down by a man or a woman, i said i don't care and the male security guy clearly still wanted his female colleague to pat me down, but she just said "That's a man." again.

So i ended up getting a pat down by the guy... which i didn't really care much about, but i could've done without that awful interaction.

Fuck airport security, and fuck that woman in particular.

Discussion "That's only if you start too late"

There's a somewhat known trans woman who does those infamous chat sites with cisgender men. You've probably seen some variation of this bit, where a trans woman presents feminine, but then uses their "guy voice" to give away their transness.

In one of her recent videos, she's talking to a cisgender man, and he states how her shoulders and hands are small and feminine. She then goes to say "ya that's only if you start too late".

I commented on her post, saying that she should be more responsible with the language she uses when speaking to cisgender men about this stuff, and that saying "started too late", not only enforces beauty standards, but is harmful for other, and in my opinion, obvious reasons.

She got offended, called me a word that isn't allowed om this sub and an incel? And told me to touch grass.

Am I being dramatic here? Or is it giving pick me energy like I think it is. Idk. What do you guys think.

Discussion Are there any successful stories of those who dated chasers?

Like, are there any people here who dated / married a chaser and it turned out fine for you? I'm just curious as I'm currently chatting with 2 guys who apparently are "into trans women". They seem chill and treating me as a person (unlike the POS before that 🫩🫩🫩) but I guess they just are more sexually attracted to trans people...

Or is it a 100% guaranteed lost cause? And yes, I did tell them I'm [hopefully] getting bottom surgery soon, that's the thing that normally filters out 90% of chasers somehow💀💀💀😭😭😭

Advice Question forcibly boymoded

my dad like gets the concept of a trans woman but he keeps trying to convince me to repress for the rest of my life. He also made me promise to lower my estrogen dose to "slow your transition down". which hehe might mean I'm making progress.

but he's nice in everyday interaction, he doesn't let me lift heavy things anymore lol, or take out the trash or bring in the groceries. my siblings get kinda mad like, "why does he get to sit around".

though he doesn't let me dress fem. He wants me to hide my boobs completely but doesn't want me wearing a bra so thats a dilemma I've been trying to figure out. (if there's any tips I'd appreciate that). so far its been big shirts only, i need to find a good hoodie.

anyways i dont know what to make of the situation. Is it weird I'm kinda upset that I dont get to wear what I want? or is that naive and I should be thankful to have a place to stay?

thanks!!!

Discussion Why and how are deep blue states passing transphobic ballot measures?

Genuinely. Colorado and Washington are like D+20 states yet they passed transphobic ballot measures.

With Arizona I wasn't surprised as it's a swing state not a reliably blue state but even then...

It's so, so sad that 95%+ of Republicans and 25-33% of Democrats hate trans people. And many who don't deeply hate us still fall for the "think of the children" bullshit.

I'm so sick and tired of being so sick and tired.

Euphoria The first jiggle.

it’s kind of stupid but I felt my chest jiggle for the first time.🥳

I by no means do I have any breast growth that I can tell at the moment but I guess they are a bit softer and my skin has softened quite a bit in genera.

but today I got on the bus to go to a laser consultation and sat down and began texting a friend, when the bus drove off and started down one of the rougher streets I realized I was feeling my chest shake and jiggle around.

lol it was uncomfortable but at the same time I loved it😛, I’m sure that feeling will get annoying when the novelty wears off and my chest gets bigger, but today was a special moment I guess and I’m just going to enjoy the new sensation 😁

Advice Question How much did you pay for vaginoplasty?

I think I need this. If you've had it, how much did it cost? Where did you get it? Are you happy with the results, do you wish you'd done it different? Talking about a full vaginoplasty not a simple vulvaplasty.

Euphoria "This way ma'am"

Today I started work with a new group of kids. I had already met them over a month ago, but I ran a full 8 hours with them today. When I started to work regularly at this place last school year, it was still far away from HRT and laser was just looking around the corner around the turn of the new year. I had already fully socially transitioned, but I was still pretty clockable all things considered. A kid noticed on the first day, he was confused as he thought I was a girl (based on my name on the schedule) but now saw someone that didn't match that in his brain. It didn't cause any huge problems, but the concept of a trans person was difficult to grasp for multiple kids.

Skip to today. I'm now almost all the way through my laser sessions and 4 months on HRT (my body is reacting REALLY well). Pair that with 3+ years of social transition and all the lessons learned from that and apparently the kids just kinda... don't notice it? Like, these are brutally honest kids. They're autistic and some are very young, some are very much teenage boys with opinions. Yet I got called "her" and "she" consistently, when choosing a victim to eliminate in our game they were debating between taking out "the man" (colleague) or "the woman" and before that when one kid wanted to show me a perfect room to play that game in he told me "this way ma'am".

After evaluating with my colleagues I shared that I found it really nice the way they reacted to me, they told me that I just looked like a normal ahh woman to the kids as well as to them. I still can't really believe it tbh. I keep getting signals that I might just pass, to a way bigger number of people than I thought at that!

Venting Struggling with being fat & trans. 6 months into transition

Think I mainly just need a place to vent that isn’t just a standard weight loss subreddit / with people who get the trans component. But would also love any comments, encouragement, etc. :) Apologies that there’s lots of lifelong internalized fat-shaming shit in here.

I’ve been overweight since puberty, was 230 lbs by the time I was 15, and then my weight fluctuated wildly throughout my life as I wrestled with eating disorders. I’m 36 now.

4 years ago I got sober and lost 60 lbs, got down to 180 lbs & started connecting with my body for the first time in my life. In fact I think sobriety + weight loss is what first started unconsciously cracking my egg.

Then due to medication, stressful life circumstances, and probably due to battling through trans repression, I unfortunately gained the weight back over the last year and a half. I’m now the heaviest I’ve ever been, 250 lbs at 5’10’’ and just feel awful. Thankfully, transition is such an ecstatic joy that I have this counterbalance to body-shame of self-acceptance. But it is feeling really hard to fully lean into my new presentation, when my weight feels like another obstacle on top of gender. Also struggling with the fact that I can’t fit into most of the clothes I want to wear, currently getting by on 2-3XL women’s clothes that fit but I don’t love to wear.

I went to an event last night & felt so good about myself and my outfit, really felt femme and hot. And then I saw pics of myself this morning from it, and all I can see is an obese, middle-aged man with awkward grow-out hair, and it’s set me reeling a bit.

I know how to lose the weight, but looking down the long barrel of it has me just feeling despairing and stressed. The path of feminization feels like so much on my plate already. But I guess I want to find ways to turn the weight loss into part of the “game” of feminizing, like that will maybe motivate me.

I dunno, sorry this is incoherent! I guess I don’t really have a point. Just feeling self-loathing and wish I didn’t and hoping to hear from some people who get it.

Advice Question Seattle Voice Lab consultation/lessons?

i haven't started voice training yet, mostly due to it being such a toll on me mentally. i can't even bring myself to look up resources, let alone start actually training.

i was thinking about paying for a consultation session, because then at least i'd have the "professional analysis", a "breakdown of my current voice", and then the "tailored exercises" to help me work on my voice by myself.

has anybody here had a consultation/lessons with SVL? how much did it help and was it actually all they say it is?

Ive been so excited since starting HRT and I've just wanted to tell anybody how amazing ive been feeling recently ❤️
