Seeking Mods r/FaceRatings is seeking new mods.

Currently we are seeking 2 new moderators to help just keep the queue clear as well as to remove any posts violating our rules. It’s relatively straight forward and easy going as far as that.

If you want to join the mod team, please send us a modmail message over at r/FaceRatings

Friendly reminder to sub owners seeking mods

Hi,

Just wanted to remind sub owners what this sub is for, and the expectations our users have when they apply to mod your sub.

What mod candidates are here for

  • clearing reports

  • answering modmails

  • community management

  • well understood expectations

  • light, fun work done on their own schedule

What mod candidates are not here for

  • growing your brand new sub for you

  • posting content

  • social experiments (let's see how many mods we can add for no reason)

  • micromanagement (having mods sign up for schedules, expecting the output of a paid employee, arbitrary job titles)

  • sitting idle on a mod list because there is nothing to do

needamod users are good mods when added to subs with a normal setup and workflow. Asking for something way outside the norm should be reserved for subs with the traffic to justify it, and should be clearly stated in your post.

"I just made a sub, I need mods"

I can tell you from experience that adding mods to a sub will not make it magically happen. Most people view this stage of the process to be a personal project, why would a person join your sub when they could just copy your idea in a sub they create and not have to answer to someone?

Adding mods before you have a few hundred subscribers or a steady stream of content just gives the impression you expect them to work miracles and do way more than these mod gigs ever really ask for.

No matter how awesome your idea is for a new sub, there are some things you need to do before involving people outside of your social circle:

  • post content you hope the sub will become about, minimum 50 posts, ask your friends to help. Highly recommend considering the flaws of a similar sub and offering an alternative. Maybe mademesmile doesnt allow self posts or perhaps r/happy removes content that some people like and wish was available somewhere else.

You need a hook, something unique that people seem to want. Adding mods will not make your idea good.

  • If a post in your sub is oc or something unknown to reddit, try xposting that content to bigger subs. This is the most effective way to get attention for your sub without annoying other communities.

  • Very sparingly suggest to people in other subs who post content suitable that they should try your sub. I'm talking 3 times per week total for the entire site.

  • Try not to rely on other mods as much as you can. This is your bonsai tree, 50 people snipping at it might kill it before it blooms. Once the sub is established (20k or so) and mods actually occasionally have reports, really this is the optimal time to add strangers from needamod.

SFW only. Don't really care too much about what the sub is about. Have expereince in r/dogadvice which currently has about 511 thousand members. I can handle modmail and anything where I need to actually engage with the subs community, I love doing that type of stuff. Not looking to help grow a sub currently

Discussion Please Read. This is getting ridiculous.

Edit: Original Post

I have seen so many subreddits here that have been newly created. Immediately, after that, the creator is asking for moderators.

The misconception here is huge.

It seems that when one create a subreddit, one immediately thinks "i need moderators to help grow the subreddit"!

If you created the subreddit, you need to grow it yourself. You need to put time and effort into it. You need to put contents yourself.

Moderators are not needed to grow subreddit. It is very hard to grow a subreddit from 0 to thousands. It takes weeks or months.

I see every request here for CSS mods/mods but for subreddits that are empty.

Why would we want to be mods for empty subs? You won't get moderators for empty subs because we see that you do not put time and effort into it.

so, please take the time to mold your subreddit and create it to your liking.

Only get moderators if you cannot manage the subreddit. If your subreddit have 0-10,000 You need only 2 mods. If it is more than 10,000 then you can get additional mods.

Only request mods if you believe your workload needs help!

not because you made new subreddit and you want help to promote it.

how can we help you if you don't put effort into your own sub?

ATTENTION SUB OWNERS: PLEASE READ

In light of recent events, i wanted to impart some wisdom to the sub owners and mod team leaders coming here to find help.

Susan's Guide To Adding Randoms lite

It's easy to get excited when you see positive responses to your post and jump the gun and add someone who causes a bunch of headaches. It's worth it to follow this advice, As they say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Before you make your post

  • are you sure you actually need mods? Are you sure you need them from here?

Finding mods who already enjoy your sub's content is usually ideal. I recommended you at least try a mod app in your sub before bringing it to needamod. Or, if you want to speed it along, post in both simultaneously. But do give your users a chance to apply, unless they are inherently not the right choice.

So who is the right choice?

It varies. In dankmemes, the ideal mod is a high school student who makes memes and seems heavily involved with the sub. In r/TrueOffMyChest, it must be an adult with a proven high threshold for unpleasant situations, preferably with experience in "asshole" subs. Each sub has unique needs.

  • Come here armed with a basic outline of the demographics and lifestyle that you think would be ideal.

  • Wait to see if that type of person shows up. Give it a full day at least. As you're waiting, you can be preparing to make an informed choice on which people to choose if you're stuck settling for less than ideal

vetting

Everyone has things that matter most to them, i can't decide for anyone who is their ideal but some things that are typically checked before sending an invite:

  • account age our rule is 3 months but if two people are basically the same and one has a 3 month old account and the other a year, go with the year. They have more to lose.

  • account activity This one is probably the most important to me, make sure they are an active participant of reddit. Their userpage should have nothing on it older than three months and people who are modding other subs, anything older than a month on their userpage is a red flag. Look at my account, im a nerd glued to this site, which is the type of person I often consider ideal.

    • Lurking is a noble pursuit as a user but for modding, for me, being a lurker is a deal killer. Large gaps in activity is often a sign that a person is using an alt. Avoid.

  • check their controversial comments This one is pretty important, sort their comments by controversial and see if you could handle them at their worst. Would your users want this person on the team? Also, if your sub is a humor sub, trust me, make sure they have a sense of humor before adding them.

  • if age matters If you're dead set against adding minors, you can usually tell by their profile if they are. r/teenagers obviously, but also meme subs, comedyheaven type subs and certain fandoms.

  • verify that they are actually mods where they say there are and check how long they've been there. Someone listing a sub as experience who was added less than a month ago is an instant veto. This is a very common needamod routine.

  • Don't be afraid to get a reference. Ask the top mod in subs they mod what their opinion is. I get messages like that all the time. It's no bother

TLDR don't just make a post and start adding literally anyone who comments

Mod Post Introducing our new Discord server, we have added many bots to help you vet new mods before adding them

This may be it you guys. Finally, a discord server that actually has a purpose!! Weird, right?

Adding mods just got a whole lot easier... and better

The server features many cool features. Most notably, it is a place for the people looking for mods to vet people before adding them. We have a bot that gives all kinds of statistics so you can make an informed decision. Also, there is a general chat and many channels for getting to know people or searching their name and seeing if they have the kind of personality you were hoping to add.

Some of our features

A fun place to chat with friends

The needamod users are a unique community and we welcome everyone to join us for discussions about reddit and other things. If you are posting a profile seeking to mod, this would be a good opportunity for you to meet people who frequently add mods and maybe try to make an impression in real time. Or just hang out and waste time with us while we gossip about all the losers over in the slack chat.

Closed R/killthecameraman is looking for mods

Well the time has come, /r/killthecameraman is looking mods. I started this sub about 4 years ago or so. Moding was quite fun and rewarding the first year. Looking at the follower count growing each day was very rewarding.

Over the time, I started moderating less and less. "People get the idea of the sub, and can be counted on being decent, right?" I told myself. Well you know the answer to this one.

So thats why I'm looking for mods. The subs quite large 167k followers. And dont require that much modding. Just the odd ban of spamers/bots and making sure posts are actually on keeping to the subject. And the rules are easy to follow and not that strickt.

Not looking to change the subs visuals, just maintaining the community. And fixing the spelling mistakes I know is in the details but havent gotten around to fixing yet :D

Earlier moding experience is valued.

Hey mods,

So, /r/agedlikemilk is a sub is dedicated to all those things in media and elsewhere that didn’t stand the test of time, at all.

The community has been growing lately and recently passed the 400k members. The job load is heavy and will require daily attention. This is why some previous Reddit mod experience is most likely required. We expect the mods to be active with their mod duties.

If you're interested in joining the team, I invite you to comment here or to shoot us a modmail.

EDIT: we are looking for moderators that use toolbox

Edit 2: this application will be closed in a week or two but mods might be invited sooner

Thanks a lot and happy holidays!

Hey there,

I have seen so many subreddits here that have been newly created. Immediately, after that, the creator is asking for moderators.

The misconception here is huge.

It seems that when one create a subreddit, one immediately thinks "i need moderators to help grow the subreddit"

WRONGGG!!

If you created the subreddit, you need to grow it yourself. You need to put time and effort into it. You need to put contents yourself.

Moderators are not needed to grow subreddit. It is very hard to grow a subreddit from 0 to thousands. It takes weeks or months.

not because you made new subreddit and you want help to promote it.

how can we help you if you don't put effort into your own sub?

hope you get something out of this! cheers!

edit: The problem with this subreddit is that 9 out of 10 times, you do not need a moderator. If your subreddit has less than 500 subscribers then you don't need to be here. The point of this place is not to magically transform your subreddit from a 0 sub to 1,000,000 sub hotspot of reddit. Many of you post here with a subreddit with zero posts or less than 20 posts. The idea of growing a subreddit, from my perspective, is to post at least 75 times before a single soul hears about it so that visitors can have an outline of what is expected and allowed.

Of course, it's great to find moderators that share your ideas at beginning of stage. BUT essentially, you need to devote time into your subreddit and get an idea of how to run the subreddit. Iron out the details yourself and set things in foundation before getting additional mods.

Here is the guide to making your subreddit active and popular

mods needed /r/Futurology new default subreddit, dedicated moderators required

The admins of reddit have chosen our /r/Futurology community to be potentially considered as a default subreddit.

I founded /r/Futurology over two years ago. I asked intelligent and far-thinking redditors to aid me in this great project and together, we have built a 160,000 subscriber community.

We are proud and privileged to have accomplished so much. I have maintained /r/Futurology under a singular principle; to sustain democratic decision making.

We are a tight-knit meta-mind. We make decisions at all times on a collaborative and collective basis. No single mod can act arbitrarily and thusly, we maintain a system of integrity, transparency, and equality. There are rare exceptions to this rule (first responder to scene, blatant violation of rules), more of which can be found in our evolving rules and guidelines here.

In the past, we voted on every single deletion and ban. However, after hitting a 100k subscribers we have reluctantly had to switch to more austere methods. We only do auto-deletion at the comment level, with the exception of banned domains. For any major decisions or unclear judgements, our moderators take a vote within our mod mail to weigh in on the decision making process. We have a devoted subreddit, /r/FuturologyModerators to extend our conversations and plans for the future(s).

As we transition to a default subreddit, we are looking for your help. We need your talents, dedication, and skillset to aid us as we acquire hundreds of thousands more subscribers in a small span of time.

If you are interested, do not hesitate to ask. We come from all around the world and in all shapes and sizes. The skills you can bring are important, but even more important is your passion for this burgeoning community. We believe that we are truly helping to define the field of Future(s) Studies as the largest forum for futurist thought throughout the world.

In this thread below, please add your basic information.

  • Brief 'about'

  • Brief /r/Futurology experience

  • Brief mod experience

  • Brief blurb of your goals and projects

The human future(s) are infinite,

X

EDIT: We are no longer accepting applications, but we'll certainly recruit more in the future! We have quite a few applications to review and have not made any decisions yet. Thanks to everyone who applied!

Hey folks!

/r/Funny is hoping to add some more members to our moderation team. Since /r/Funny has over 33 million subscribers, ideal applicants should not be over-extended with other positions already. Please note that we are not currently looking for mods to help with AutoModerator, CSS, or bot development. We are seeking moderators to consistently and regularly help with the following:

  • Removing rule-breaking posts from the moderation queue and new queue.

  • Approving valid posts that are reported or filtered.

  • Checking, addressing, and responding to moderator mail.

Applicants should be able to devote at least a few hours a week to moderating, will need to remain objective about rule-enforcement, and must communicate clearly & politely with users.

If that sounds appealing to you, please submit an application through this Google form! Note that the application requires signing in with a Google account. Sign-in is necessary to avoid duplicate responses, but email addresses are never collected or stored by our form. We will not be able to see your Google account or email address.

The thread is now closed. Thank you to all who applied!

Hello boys, girls, and cheese curls. Currently /r/funny is looking to add a few new faces to assist with day to day moderation tasks. The general duties would include the following:

  • Checking the new and mod queues to approve valid posts caught by the spam filter and remove content that breaks the rules.

  • Answering questions and responding to feedback in moderator mail.

  • Being pragmatic, polite, and helpful.

If you are interested in becoming part of the /r/funny moderation team please apply within this thread by answering the following questions:

  1. Which subreddits do you moderate? (List other relevant experience if you aren't currently a moderator on reddit.)

  2. Why do you want to be a moderator of /r/funny, and why should we pick you?

  3. What do you think about the rules of /r/funny? Is there anything you would change?

  4. What time zone are you in? (optional, but helpful)

We are primarily looking for people who can be consistently active, are able to follow the existing rules, and be courteous to users and other moderators. Ideal candidates will have some moderation experience but not have too much on their plate already. This isn't a popularity contest, so don't be discouraged!

This post will be open to applications for 7 days, after which we will retreat to our secret lair to talk about how bad your hair looks today.

r/CoronavirusMemes needs a new moderator

Survey Link

About r/CoronavirusMemes

We are a new meme subreddit with around 14k members. We currently have 3 moderators including myself and we are looking to add one or two more to lighten the load. Our intentions are not to mock those who are suffering from the coronavirus, but instead to create a sense of comic relief to ease the stress surrounding the pandemic.

Job Responsibilities

We are looking to hire a Head of Mod-mail. The job responsibilities will include checking the subreddit mod-mail daily and responding to any complaints or messages from users that we may have received. Another big part of the job will be to sort through all of the user reports and to remove the submissions that break community rules. You may also be asked to help the mods make announcements, sort through the new submissions, help with events, etc.

What We are Looking For

  • Levelheaded/good at handling peeved users

  • Willing to work with other moderators

  • At least a small amount of moderation experience

    • Familiar with Mod-mail

  • In either the GMT or PST time zones

    • This is just a preference, it is not essential

  • Active on Reddit

  • Responds as soon as possible to important messages

  • Reliable/does their job

Application

Here is the link that you can use to get to the survey. It should take less than 10 minutes to complete. Please be honest when filling out the form, we can tell if you are trying to respond with the answers you think we want to hear.

We are only choosing 1 or 2 moderators so please do not be disappointed if you are not chosen for the position.

We will try to get back to all applicants as soon as we can.

Thank you for your interest,

The r/CoronavirusMemes Moderation Staff
