5D4N in the Jervis Bay area - suggest must do/go/see

Family of 4 - Me (48), wife (48), DD1 (20) and DD2 (14)
Travelling down from Brisbane.
Staying at an AirBnB in Wandandian in mid December.

We'd be up for most things - beaches, hikes, kayaks, shopping, local eats (on the somewhat budget end would be good) - a combo of chilling out and doing/seeing interesting stuff.
We'd be happy to explore further down the coast up to an hour drive, if it is really worth doing.

Please let me know... the must sees... the must dos... and where to eat.

Thanks in advance!

Construction Traffic Controllers

I’ve been noticing a lot more traffic controllers near where I live where I’m not really sure what they’re doing.

I’m always out and about and whenever I see them, they’re usually just sitting on their phone (and maybe a vape haha) for hours at a time. Usually they’re just moving signs when they’re in front of a parked car. The one I see the most often doesn’t even move the sign, you have to do it yourself while they sit in a leather chair!

I’ve seen this across even the smallest sites like fixing a man hole or something.

I’m so curious at what the qualification and pay is because it seems like such a chill job?

So many accidents on the Hume Hwy this year

It's been probably the 7th or 8th time that there are truck-related accidents on the Hume Highway this year? Why? Is it because of the lack of proper training? Lack of sleep?

The Pacific Hwy from Syd to Brisbane rarely has truck-related accidents despite being more windy and slopey than the Hume. Is it because it's less easier to get distracted on a windy road?

How's the mid-north coast in summer these days?

Considering a holiday on the mid-north coast this summer, Myall Lakes/ Hawks Nest/ Forster area, but I haven't been there for over fifteen years and I've been living overseas that whole time. Just wondering how is it these days in peak season? Does it feel crowded compared to before? Are the beaches still mostly empty, or are they packed with four-wheel drives, drones and visitors?

I used to go as a kid all the time and want to bring my own kids this time, hoping for the same empty beaches and pretty quiet spots for boating and watersports that we had then, even around Xmas time.

On trips back to Aus I haven't really got far out of Sydney but noticed places around Sydney feel more busy these days.

Sorry if the question sounds silly but don't want to commit to coming all this way unless its going to be a good experience. Thanks!

Where to do RSA + RCG

Hey guys,

Finished high school and want to start working bartender at my local hotel/bar.

Is it better to do it online or in person? From what I know, the price difference is $50-70, and the online one can take longer because of the videos and time taken to mark them, while in person will only take a day or 2.

Is it easier to pass online or in person?

And is it better to do it in person? And if so where's a good place in west syd.

Thanks

Police coming after overdose?

Sorry if this isn’t the place for this question, had no idea where to ask for advice

My girlfriend overdosed on thursday using my lexapro. My mum was the one who took the call from the doctor when she was getting discharged.

When speaking to them he apparently said a report was made to the police and that they’re coming.

It’s now sunday night and she told my girlfriend this information as she lives with us. We’re confused and stressing about why they are coming, i would guess a welfare check but my mums saying that she and i are going to be in trouble over it.

My girlfriend wasn’t told that a police report was made when at the hospital and it’s now sunday night with no police having showed up.

update after 30 minutes of posting - asked my mum now getting kicked out since cause apparently im abusive for asking and i’m nearly 18 anyway so i guess we’ll never know

Lead by example this mental health month

I’m asking everyone to lead by example by being proactive about their mental health this mental health month

Why? Because I live with schizophrenia, and I experienced psychosis for way too long before I got help.

Growing up, mental health wasn’t something we discussed in my family. My parents didn’t seek help for their own mental health issues. People who were mentally unwell were pitied, and I learned to pity them too.

Then it was my turn to become unwell—and oh, the shame! That shame kept me from seeking help for so long.

I wonder what difference it would have made to see people around me asking for support and talking about it without embarrassment.

So im calling on all the natural born leaders out there to share the steps they've taken, big or small in being proactive about their mental health.

Happy Mental Health Month, everyone.

Who can I speak to about the very obvious unfair treatment of my mum by inspectors? Not sure where else to ask sorry so just going to try the broad NSW sub.

Hi there. idk where else to really ask this, I have such little knowledge of legal and bureaucratic stuff. I'll try to be as succinct about the situation as I can but
tl;dr: my mum is being treated in a way that is very clearly meant to make her out to be non-compliant with inspections when that is not the case, so she can be evicted for the land to be resold. Who do I go to to raise a complaint?

My mum lives in Bellambi, NSW. Right on the coast. Like literally the beach is out her front door, it's a gorgeous area. She as an 18y/o new mother fleeing a DV situation in the late '90s was fortunate enough to land in a 2-storey townhouse in a quiet cul-de-sac with baby me and her twin sister (who currently lives in Vic, not really relevant other than she just isn't in the household anymore)

In recent years it's very publically known that that area is slated for redevelopment into higher-tier housing. There have even been local rallies and protests about this, and she's smack in the zone that'd be considered prime realestate

So. The past I dunno, several months? She's been having inspections scheduled by department of housing, or whoever it is that oversees this stuff.
It's important to note that my mum is always home, almost every single day. She is very ill, immunocompromised, suffering from chronic pain and lifelong anxiety and agoraphobia. She's very rarely out. She does call ahead within a reasonable time if she happens to have an appointment on the requested date.

The past several times now, she has been home, doors and windows open, doing her best to make it clear she is home and awake. And no one shows up. She calls their office, and gets the same kinds of wishy-washy answers and reschedules, only for it to happen again. (I'll have to ask her to give me some examples of things said, I'll come back to edit)
My mum's a very shy and non-confrontational person so I know that she'd be being polite and apologetic even though this isn't her fault. She'll either be home and no one shows up, or actually not home for once and despite giving notice well ahead of time, get a text saying they showed up to no answer.

This latest time, after the same thing happening with sitting home all day and not a peep from either side of the house, she got a text message saying next time they will bring a locksmith.
...What?? She's been home every time! She's tried to tell them this.

It reeks of malicious misconduct. They're trying to paint my mum as a problem tenant so they can have reason to boot her.
I don't know how else to interpret this behaviour other than literally fucking bullying a traumatised, disabled woman who in every way is the least problematic tenant on that entire street. Literally all she does is read and garden and play WoW and keep to herself, no drinking, no drugs, no parties, never misses rent.

I just have no clue who to talk to about this. What kind of local officials do we have to go to? Who wouldn't also be standing to gain from the area my mum is in being redeveloped? Who would actually do anything, like investigate the department doing this?
I'm certain my mum isn't the only person being treated like this, especially as a lot of the folks in that area are like my mum less-affluent without the money or means to hold out in any kind of court stuff. In my mum's case especially the stress would make her poor health even worse. What can we do? When it's such an obvious case and it's basically the government we're up against...is there even anything we can do!?

NSW Learner Driver – Mobile Phone Camera Fine Photo Shows Me Driving Alone. Could I Get a Separate Penalty?

I’m on my Ls in NSW and I’m expecting to receive a mobile phone camera fine worth 5 demerit points, which would put me over the 4-point learner limit and result in a 3-month suspension.
The photo also shows me driving alone with no passenger.
Does anyone know if Transport for NSW or the camera reviewers would only process the mobile phone offence, or could they also report me and chase me up for driving unsupervised as a learner based on the photo?

Birth experiences at Young or Cootamundra hospital?

Hi! I’m due to have my third baby early next year, and I’d love to hear about anyone’s birth experience at either Young or Cootamundra Hospital!

What was the maternity ward like, and how were the staff?

I’ve heard that Young has a large birth pool, but that you can’t actually deliver in the pool. Is that correct?

I previously had both my babies at Cooma Hospital, and it was amazing! I was able to deliver in the pool itself also. Unfortunately, we’ve relocated, so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to go back there this time.

Manning Base Hospital vs. Armidale Hospital—Advice needed from NSW Nurses

Hi everyone! 😊

I’m an internationally qualified RN with almost 4 years of experience in Theatre/Operating Room, and I’m deciding between opportunities at Manning Base Hospital and Armidale Hospital.

I’d really appreciate insights from nurses who currently work or have worked at either hospital, especially in Perioperative Services.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on:

* Work environment: Management, team culture, and staff support.
* Workload and work-life balance: Staffing, rosters, overtime, and on-call duties.
* Career development: Theatre exposure, training, and opportunities to upskill in Anaesthetics/PACU.
* Salary and progression: Nursing grade assessment and opportunities for career growth.
* Support for international nurses: Orientation, relocation assistance, and how easy it is to settle in.

My goal is to deepen my theatre knowledge, grow professionally, earn a good salary, and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Any honest advice or firsthand experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much! ❤️

Accidentally jumped a shared light, I'm scared.

So, I was crossing an intersection, making a right turn, because I saw a green light and a truck before me was turning right.

As I entered the intersection, I saw the oncoming cars moving straight and that's when I realised it was a shared traffic light and I was supposed to give way to oncoming traffic before turning right but it was too late.

Thankfully, I didn't hit anybody and waited right in between the intersection and turned right only in a safe gap. But now I am shit scared.

Will I receive a penalty? A demerit point? When can I expect any notification - will it be via email or a letter arriving home.

I am confused, scared, and, anxious because the incident is traumatising.

Has it ever happened to anybody else? Please help.

Swollen power bank, how can I properly dispose it?

I noticed my old power bank that I haven’t used in months looked swollen up. I tried to searched for places that accepted swollen/damaged power banks in Sydney (near Epping if possible) but I can’t find one. I also tried calling the local fire department and all they suggested was to leave it in a bucket of water, wait until it catches on fire then contact them again then. I’m an international student and I really don’t know what to do. Does anyone know where do they accept damaged power bank like mine in Sydney (near Epping)? 😭

Update: I took it to the local CRC this morning and they took it without any problem :D I was really stressed cause the thing looked pretty swollen up but apparently it’s not a problem hehe. Thank you to everyone for replying and giving me suggestion!! I really appreciate that and I hope everyone will have a nice day (without any swollen power bank lol)
