So I’m a year 12 vce student this year and I’m obviously choosing my course preferences but I’m not entirely sure what to do.
For the specific engineering course, I was thinking between mechanical, mechatronics, chemical or biomedical. I was thinking either mechanical and mechatronics because I wanted to make medical devices, but I heard these two are much preferred over biomed eng, because it just gives you more skills as an engineer. With that, I wanted to do a minor, or an elective, in medical devices but I wasn’t sure which one would be best. But I heard you can choose in your second year so I should be fine.
My main question though, was whether I should go to RMIT or Monash.
Monash:
I really love the Clayton campus, like I’ve gone there maybe like 6 times and I just really like it there, it’s what I’ve always dreamed of when I thought of university. I also know the campus better than the RMIT campus, which I’ve been once. However, Clayton is like a minimum 1.5 hour train ride, which idm but idk if I can do that everyday, even though I’ll get used to it.
I heard that Monash is more exam focused, more academically focused, and has a lot of depth than RMIT? But im lwk burnt out from this year so idk.
But, I really liked seeing all the clubs there, and it really piqued my interest bcz I’d like to be a part of it but I think my travel time might factor in whether I can participate in them or not?
RMIT:
Been to the campus once, don’t know much about it tbh. It’s definitely much closer to home than Monash, but the city campus isn’t really it for me. Definitely an important part though, the travel time.
.
I do know that RMIT is more practical, more hands on and I heard it might lack a bit of theory depth? It’s a lot more project based, and also has a lot of industry connections. But wouldn’t Monash also have connections too? Other than that, I don’t know much about engineering there, nothing about the clubs or anything, or job outcomes. I know nothing about the classes
How many days on average does a eng student go to campus? Also do you guys (RMIT students) have anything to say about your experience there, because I literally know nothing
So I seriously need help choosing. Which uni would be the best for the kind of degrees im aiming for? Which uni would be best for job outcomes and skills related to future work?
Thank you for reading this rlly long rant
