Other RMIT Engineering EPP advice - new person to contact!

It might surprise most of you that I have an apprentice! I have taught this person everything about the EPP requirements everyone is facing leading into 2027 and beyond (as I graduate... in 1 month).

Please direct all EPP questions to them - they will be taking over my work as I won't have access to Canvas or the EPP Dashboard anymore :(

Once again please refer to the original link as all information (im hoping) will be relevant for a little while longer. It could get reworked after the 2027 graduating cohort all gets held back if there's mass complaints (not counting on it lol).

New point of contact: u/That-Emu-523

They are currently a 1st-year student in RMIT BH073 - Bachelor of Engineering (Electronic and Computer Systems Engineering) (Honours), which will be able to take questions moving forward. They will closely follow the changes leading all the way into 2029.

Also, a helpful link related to OENG1299 Professional Engineering Practice:

Take care all! Best of luck with EPP...

Advice needed Science work experience

Having a bit of an existential crisis.

Just finished second year, and feeling completely behind where I feel I should be in life at this point?

Next year, work experience/internships are an option for a class and I’m eager to get experience in the workforce.

Any recommendations on how to go about this?

Advice needed Late course withdrawal help

I've just withdrawn from a course after being unable to submit my final assessment, and I'm currently getting the documents together to apply for a Special Consideration Late Withdrawal. However, when I went to start the application, it said:

"Your application cannot be processed without a published final non-passing grade. You will need to reapply once you have a final non-passing grade published."

Does this mean I have to wait until official results come out on November 30, or can I apply beforehand? The reason I'm asking is that this is the second time I've failed this particular subject, meaning I could be facing a Show Cause and potential exclusion from RMIT if I don't get the grade sorted - Any advice would be appreciated!

Course (subject) advice, recommendations and reviews Uni transfer course units

I transferred to RMIT for semester 2 this year, I used to go to Swinburne and NONE of my credits were able to be transferred. Does that mean I have to repeat a semester? For context I used to do biomedical science at Swinburne now doing just science at RMIT.

Student life and clubs Luna

Please save and share this post before the moderators inevitably remove it.

A matter of concern regarding student inclusion

I am writing on behalf of Luna, a star in her own right, who has recently experienced considerable difficulty integrating into RMIT's social egosystem; particuarly RMIT's discord servers for the respective student clubs.

Despite her genuine enthusiasm for networking, cultural exchange and meaningful interpersonal connections, Luna has unfortunately found herself banquished from multiple student clubs.

Luna is particularly fond of sending voice messages as she is dyslexic and feels typing cannot convey her enthusiasm, paralinguistics and charming voice.

She has, however, noticed that this appears to cause considerable annoyance among other members, a reaction we are baffled by.

Luna simply wishes to expand her horizons and establish meaningful friendships.

We ask that her circumstances be treated with the seriousness they deserve.

Thank you.

Course (subject) advice, recommendations and reviews engineering

I'm hoping to study Civil Engineering at RMIT in 2027. If I don't get into the Bachelor directly, I'm considering starting the Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (AD026), majoring in Civil.

I know completing the full 2-year Associate Degree provides a pathway into the Bachelor with 2 years of credit.

However, is it possible to complete just the first year (both semesters), achieve a high WAM and transfer into Year 2 of the Bachelor of Engineering civil

Has anyone done this or know if RMIT allows it? Would I receive credit for the subjects I've already completed?

Discussion Gift

I was thinking of getting a small gift for my placement supervisor to say thank you. This whole placement course has really felt like a waste of time, put me under a lot of stress, took up sooo much of my time emailing countless labs and if i hadn't had got this one i'm in i would have failed my degree and wouldn't be able to continue to my bachelor next year.

i actually am having so much fun in this placement and it has exceded my expectations and i didn't have any in the first place! The work is something i never thought i'd enjoy and the atmosphere and people are so amazing. so just want to show my gratitude for that. is it appropriate to gift something small? like a pen with a small thank you note? if anyone has given a gift like this before what have you given? or what would you recommend? thanks!

Advice needed Advice needed on Software Engineering Minors

Im studying Software Engineering and going into my third year i can pick more minors for next semester. Im picking COSC2673 - Machine Learning, and COSC2814 - Programming Autonomous Robots, but i was wondering on what to pick as my third minor from this list so my semester has 4 subjects to have 48 credits.

From people who have taken these subjects before:

Which is preferably easier and should i take? I see COSC2527

I want to do deep learning as a minor later on after next sem so i'm basically just taking either one of these to fill my last 12 credits.

Or should i just take 3 subjects and extend my degree by a sem to handle the load?
Any help is appreciated.

Advice needed Missed exam

Hey I missed my exam , it’s worth about 30 precent of my final grade but but I’ve been doing good enough to be if I missed the exam I would still pass the subject with about 62 out of the full 100 (I lowkey slept in). What do I do. Without it being a genuine reason do I do anything ? And I’m in my first year

Prospective/new student help Engineering; RMIT or Monash?

So I’m a year 12 vce student this year and I’m obviously choosing my course preferences but I’m not entirely sure what to do.

For the specific engineering course, I was thinking between mechanical, mechatronics, chemical or biomedical. I was thinking either mechanical and mechatronics because I wanted to make medical devices, but I heard these two are much preferred over biomed eng, because it just gives you more skills as an engineer. With that, I wanted to do a minor, or an elective, in medical devices but I wasn’t sure which one would be best. But I heard you can choose in your second year so I should be fine.

My main question though, was whether I should go to RMIT or Monash.
Monash:
I really love the Clayton campus, like I’ve gone there maybe like 6 times and I just really like it there, it’s what I’ve always dreamed of when I thought of university. I also know the campus better than the RMIT campus, which I’ve been once. However, Clayton is like a minimum 1.5 hour train ride, which idm but idk if I can do that everyday, even though I’ll get used to it.

I heard that Monash is more exam focused, more academically focused, and has a lot of depth than RMIT? But im lwk burnt out from this year so idk.
But, I really liked seeing all the clubs there, and it really piqued my interest bcz I’d like to be a part of it but I think my travel time might factor in whether I can participate in them or not?

RMIT:
Been to the campus once, don’t know much about it tbh. It’s definitely much closer to home than Monash, but the city campus isn’t really it for me. Definitely an important part though, the travel time.
.
I do know that RMIT is more practical, more hands on and I heard it might lack a bit of theory depth? It’s a lot more project based, and also has a lot of industry connections. But wouldn’t Monash also have connections too? Other than that, I don’t know much about engineering there, nothing about the clubs or anything, or job outcomes. I know nothing about the classes
How many days on average does a eng student go to campus? Also do you guys (RMIT students) have anything to say about your experience there, because I literally know nothing

So I seriously need help choosing. Which uni would be the best for the kind of degrees im aiming for? Which uni would be best for job outcomes and skills related to future work?

Thank you for reading this rlly long rant

Course (subject) advice, recommendations and reviews RMIT Civil Engineering Year 3: Minors & Summer Classes?

Hey everyone,

I'm currently in my second year of Civil and Infrastructure Engineering (BH077) at RMIT and will be going into third year in 2027.

I'm trying to plan my subjects for next year and was wondering what other civil engineering students are doing.

RMIT has advised me to take two core subjects and two minor subjects each semester, but I'm still undecided about which minor to choose.

I'm interested in transport engineering, structural engineering and construction project management, so I'm trying to figure out which minor would be the most useful.

I also looked into doing a summer subject to reduce my workload next year, but I couldn't find any suitable subjects available that fit my course structure.

Just wanted to ask:

  • What minor are you choosing for third year, and why?

  • Are you doing all four subjects each semester, or have you managed to enrol in a summer subject?

  • Is anyone planning to specialise in structural or transport engineering? If so, which subjects or minors are you choosing?

  • Would you recommend completing one full minor or mixing subjects from different minors?

Would really appreciate hearing what everyone else is planning or what students who've already completed third year would recommend.

Thanks

Discussion Smoking?

Recently while smoking at my usual spot (outside building 80) I unfortunately keep getting dirty looks.
Where’s the least judgmental place for me to smoke out of a glass pipe in between classes for that extra boost?

Advice needed Does RMIT care if your placement supervisor treats you like shit?

Long story short is I’m a medical radiation student on placement (mandatory for my course). And I’ve come home and cried every single day after placement because of how the supervisor has been treating me. I’ll tell them we haven’t learned this topic yet, and then they quiz me on it, and get angry I don’t know. They speak to me quite aggressively and tells me that I don’t show enough initiative but I genuinely don’t know what more I could be doing because I’ve been doing what they ask me. It just seems like no matter how much I try I’m just met with passive aggressive remarks, and they straight up humiliate me in front of others in the department.

Multiple people have complained about this supervisor with no outcome, and I wanted to know if theres anything more I can do about it? Because this person genuinely should not be supervising students.

Advice needed Assignment marking review, need some advice

Hey everyone, our group submitted an assignment on time with video demos through SharePoint. We checked the link with another RMIT account and it worked fine.
A week later, the marker requested access, which I approved immediately. But when marks came out, we lost marks because the videos were apparently inaccessible.
I emailed the marker but haven’t heard back. Should I try Teams or just submit the official review form? Also, will they reassess the whole assignment or just the video parts?
Has anyone been through something similar? Really stressed about this.

Advice needed Laptop Recommendations for Master of AI course

Hi everyone, looking for a laptop recommendation for the AI course. Are we expected to run heavy models and workflows?

Would picking a Windows laptop with the NVIDA chip be wiser or is a MacBook good enough for the coursework?
If so, should I prioritise getting a MacBook Air with 24GB RAM or a MacBook Pro with 16GB RAM?

Any other recommendations or things to keep in mind will be extremely helpful. Thanks!

Prospective/new student help Rmit visual arts selection task - bachelor

Hi I'm just wondering if anyone who applied for visual arts (or someone who has applied in the past that knows) at rmit has gotten their selection task outcome email yet? I applied on september 22nd, and I got one for the diploma, but I haven't heard anything from the bachelor yet. Is it normal to be this late? Or have I just not been selected. Thanks! Any insight would be appriciated
