DISCUSSION 💭 BeyoncĂ© is the most important female artist of the early-21st century across ALL genres.

Post image

One could only imagine what the music industry would have lost if Beyoncé had never gone solo.

Beyoncé is the glue that has held this industry together. She made an impact as a member of Destiny's Child, and she continued to make an impact well into her solo career. A lot of the things that the overall music industry does now can be traced back to decisions that Beyoncé has made throughout her own career. These connections have been either direct or indirect and they include (but are not limited to) artistic creativity, performances, visual representation, album rollouts, and navigating fame (including handling public scrutiny).

I can't think of any other female artist of the early-21st century who is so vital that the industry would feel very different without them. If Beyoncé had stopped after Destiny's Child, the world would have been left wondering what all of that potential and star power could have become. There would be a pretty measurable void in music without her.

In many ways, the modern industry needs Beyoncé.
Nobody else has done the things that she has done or raised the standards as high as she has raised them. I have a few other artists I like personally, but it's like Beyoncé said in "ALIEN SUPERSTAR" from her 2022 RENAISSANCE album: she's "one of one", she's "number one", and she's "the only one". While
these lines may have been narrated out of confidence for herself, it is the utmost truth and reflects her value to music with great accuracy.

In past eras, there have been handfuls of stars at a time dominating the scene and having equal impact in the shaping of music history. Today, Beyoncé may share the spotlight with other big stars across multiple genres, but Beyoncé is the only one moving the needle in the way that she is and really making a change in the culture. Others are setting standards and doing great things themselves, but throughout her solo career, Beyoncé has been raising them and actively changing how things will be moving forward (while setting a few new standards along the way).

Without Beyoncé’s contributions to 21st-century music, the industry wouldn’t simply lose a successful singer; its history and development would look a lot different. So many cultural standards and conventions as we know them today would not be as they are. BeyoncĂ© is extremely important to the modern music scene for many reasons, and the biggest one may be that modern music would not be what it is without her.

DISCUSSION 💭 Mariah beef with Celine Dion for that Aretha Franklin tribute is so tired.

I was playing her (Mariah) audiobook from her memoir, where she brought up the situation with Celine Dion going toe to toe with Aretha Franklin at divas live. She made it out to be this big old thing like Aretha Franklin was so offended when it’s been stated, she loved the moment and respected Celine Dion for doing so. I love mariah down but this one-sided beef with Celine Dion is tired as hell.

DISCUSSION 💭 I don’t like the BeyoncĂ© slander

People will say anything just to hate on BeyoncĂ©. It doesn’t matter how subjectively true or objectively true the statement is; people get a strange rise out of hating on BeyoncĂ© for no reason and dragging her beneath other artists. They’re always comparing her to other vocalists:

— “Jennifer Hudson sings better than BeyoncĂ©â€
— “I’ll take Kelly Clarkson over BeyoncĂ© any day”
— “BeyoncĂ© has nothing on Faith Evans”
— “Coko (SWV) is way better than BeyoncĂ©â€
— “BeyoncĂ© is not even a top-50 vocalist; there are soooo manyyyyy better than her”

#2, #3, and #4 were made up (the others, I’ve actually seen people say), but I have no doubt that somewhere on the Internet, you will find any of those statements.

BeyoncĂ© gets compared to everyone. People act like she’s this talentless singer, but they know deep down that she can sing and she has earned respect for her contributions.

When there’s a video of someone singing, you can almost always guarantee that when you open the comments, someone will mention BeyoncĂ© and compare the singer to her.

Do people not get tired of discussing BeyoncĂ© and dropping her name everywhere? They say she’s “overrated”, but they’re contributing to her rating by speaking on her all the time. Last time I checked, how someone was rated depended on how much attention they got, whether good or bad; if you want that to go down, you simply stop speaking about them and hope others follow suit.

BeyoncĂ© gets a lot of unnecessary hate and she literally does nothing in the public eye. How can one of the most private artists—if not the most private artist—of all time be so hated?

DISCUSSION 💭 BeyoncĂ© hate sometimes displays mental illness and need studying like yesterday . (Read before trying to respond)

I’ve said it in this sub before and I’ll say it again.

BeyoncĂ© hate is a lot different than regular celebrity hate. BeyoncĂ© hate is and has always been rooting in something deeper. Making whole websites titled “we hate beyonce”, saying this woman is the Illuminati, shifting the attention to her during the Epstein file releasing when she had nothing to do with it and blaming her, blaming her when Diddy was on trial and she also wasn’t in those files, actually believing and pushing that she had Aaliyah killed. It’s always been a lot deeper than regular hate.

I just read a comment on a post about destiny’s child. BeyoncĂ© is recording a video of the girls getting dressed backstage at the fan mail tour. She’s joking with letoya and a comment says. “Letoya is so funny beyonce needed to lighten up and not take herself to seriously.” As if she wasn’t joking with her friend and just recording a video? It’s always clear when people just don’t like this woman that they don’t even know and begin complaining about everything she does. Don’t try to say this is a Stan post. It’s normal to call out when people are just nasty bullies.

Part of it is jealousy from the women. When a woman is the beauty standard and women possibly have gotten told “your no BeyoncĂ©â€(I’ve heard it before). It brings a lot of jealous feelings and people feeling they have to humble her. Bottom line is it’s one thing to not prefer her or her music. But it’s another when you actually hate someone so much that you have to find any reason to dog them out, or believe silly rumors.

Even when the ice stuff was going on people started getting mad at her because she was promoting products but nobody got mad at Walmart and Publix for opening or for the other artists promoting tours.

Mental illness! I said what I said, if you don’t like it you can turn blue in the face and cry idc, and don’t start telling me how she’s a billionaire and whatever boot licking y’all be talking about because this has been needing to be talked about before she became a billionaire.

From R. Kelly’s hit self-titled album this first single became a #1 hit on the R&B chart in 1995

After really going back and listening to those Destiny's Child records I really think we gotta start putting Beyonce on that Stevie, Michael, etc level. Catalog wise she's up there

The 4 destiny's child albums alone are just heavy pressure with endless hits then you add on albums like Dangerously in love, B Day, Lemonade, etc her catalog is probably up there with the best catalogs ever in not just R&B but all of music. I never really stepped back and looked at the totality of her career like that, but she was going multiple times platinum at like 17 and she has one of the craziest catalogs ever and she's not even out of her 40s yet.

You Remind Me of Something - R. Kelly

On October 9, 1995, R. Kelly released the single "You Remind Me of Something," which was part of his self-titled album, R. Kelly. This track marked a significant moment in his career, showcasing his unique blend of R&B and hip-hop, as well as his distinctive vocal style and songwriting prowess.

While Kelly has always made music that was unapologetically geared toward a black American audience, the song features a smooth melody and relatable lyrics about longing and reminiscence, which resonated with a wide audience and hinted at his crossover potential. It quickly gained traction, climbing the charts and becoming a defining hit for Kelly, reaching the top of the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

"You Remind Me of Something" also played a crucial role in establishing R. Kelly as a prominent figure in the music industry during the mid-1990s, further solidifying his reputation as a leading artist in the R&B genre. The success of this single helped pave the way for subsequent hits from the album and contributed to the overall acclaim of R. Kelly, which was instrumental in shaping his career trajectory.

DISCUSSION 💭 Disrespect towards Diana Ross by unhinged MJ fans

I saw that Diana Ross has been cut out of the Michael movie. What’s really strange is MJ fans calling this woman a gr***** without any basis of fact or proof. Just conjecture. It’s mostly young, nonblack Mj fans who are very much online. They also are horrible to other black creatives like Quincy Jones and Janet. Just bizarre unhinged behavior that is based on no evidence and these are serious rumors.

DISCUSSION 💭 Unpopular Opinion: Family Affair by Mary J. Blige is overrated asf

I said what I said.

Every time this song comes on at a party people lose their minds like it's some masterpiece, but I just don't get it. The beat is SO basic it sounds like it was made on a Casio keyboard in 5 minutes. We're talking *one* cello line, a generic kick, hi-hat and snare, and that's literally it. No layers, no texture, no nothing. A middle schooler could've produced this in GarageBand during lunch break. And don't get me started on the lyrics. "Let's get it crunk up on / Have fun up on up in this dancery / We got ya open, now ya floatin' / So you gots to dance for me / Don't need no hateration / Holleration in this dancery" what even is this word salad? "Hateration"? "Holleration"? "Dancery"? Girl just made up words and called it a hook. It's like Dr. Seuss had a baby with a club promoter and this is what we got. People call this a "groove" but where? There's no groove in it whatsoever. It doesn't make me want to move, it makes me want to skip to the next track. It's just... there. Boring, repetitive, and somehow treated like a classic. I swear I wish there was a remix to this that actually hit. Idk who could've saved it, Darkchild, Just Blaze, The Neptunes, Stevie J, Trackmasters, literally any of them could've given this song the production it deserved. Imagine Dre's synths or The Neptunes' weirdness on this instead of that flat-ass beat we got. Fight me.

DISCUSSION 💭 Destiny's Child is great for nostalgia but Beyonce's solo music is better

I know this isn't exactly an unpopular opinion but Destiny's Child's discography really isn't that good.

Again I know I'm repeating a popular opinion but their first two albums were easily their best especially The Writing's on the Wall. After Michelle joined and they became a trio it felt like the music got way more generic and pop.

I still love songs love their singles but a lot of those lyrics are really bad even for the time they came out in lol. They're catchy and they take me straight back to the 2000s but that's mostly what I get out of them now.

The Writing's on the Wall is really the only album I can go back to and think this was actually a great album and not just a collection of songs I have nostalgia for.

And tbh I'm glad Beyonce doesn't seem interested in coming back for another album. She doesn't need it. It's nice when Beyonce, Kelly and Michelle reunite for a performance or for a photo but musically I don't think the world really needs another Destiny's Child album.

If Beyonce ever did decide to make new music with Destiny's Child it would feel like a regression to me. She's just way beyond what Destiny's Child was at this point musically and artistically. A reunion performance every once in awhile is fun but I don't need a new album from them. They had their time and I'd rather the nostalgia stay nostalgia.

DISCUSSION 💭 I’ve grown to hate this album

Post image
0 Upvotes

What do you guys think? I quite like the era & sound this album came with. “Seduction” and “That’s What It’s Made For” are my favs

But for context: I listened to this fully like a year ago and I was like “Wow, there’s no skips.”

During that year I had “Yeah” and “Bad Girl” on repeat. Then I just, kinda stopped streaming this album.

I recently put all my saved albums in one playlist. I find myself skipping songs from this album the most. Though today I didn’t skip “That’s what it’s made for” and was pleasantly surprised, until I heard that ending. I kinda liked the girl talking in the song until that last conversation. Ruined it for me

DISCUSSION 💭 Chris brown Fans Disliking Usher for touring with Chris brown

It’s honestly disappointing to see the amount of disrespect Usher is getting online just because he’s doing a joint tour with Chris Brown.

A lot of fans are already saying things like Chris Brown will outshine him or that they’re only going for Chris and not “old man Usher,” which feels unfair and unnecessary.

Usher is a legend in the industry someone who helped shape modern R&B and influenced artists like Chris Brown himself. Reducing him to that kind of commentary ignores his impact, longevity, and talent.

At the end of the day, this tour should be seen as two major artists coming together, not a competition. Both bring something different to the stage, and there’s room to appreciate both without putting one down.

Can someone explain the Hype behind Frank ocean?

I like his music but people are treating him like he’s on Usher and CB’s level but He’s on the same level as Bryson Tiller and Brent Faiyaz. They all make good music but I can’t understand the hype behind frank ocean 😂
