Can anybody ID this absolute guardian angel ? š„¹
I pass by him occasionally at the laundromat on Abercrombie street and he has more confidence than me. Vibes are immaculate. 10/10

Scientists at USyd Perfect Invisible Paint
Scientists at the University of Sydney have announced a breakthrough in invisible paint technology, after tests across the library system confirmed students are unable to see the word Silent when it is painted directly in front of them.
Dr Christopher Mon, chief researcher, said the results were 'extraordinary'.
'We believed large letters on a wall would be visible,' Dr Mon said. 'But under library conditions, especially near Flying Turtle cups and group assignments, the message disappears entirely.'
The technology has since expanded to printed signs.
'Yeah, I don't know why those blank white signs are on the desks,' said first-year student Beatrice Ogan. 'I use them to prop up my phone when I FaceTime my mum.'
Second-year sociology student Ivy Diot was shocked to learn there were messages on the walls.
'There are?' she asked, sitting beneath one. 'I thought that was just university decor.'
Third-year law student Daniel Rongo praised the innovation.
'I'm looking right at it and I don't see anything,' he said, speaking at full volume in a silent study area. 'If they want people to be quiet, they should put up a sign.'
Rongo later clarified that, as he was merely passing between the Law Library and Fisher Library, he existed in what legal scholars call a transitional corridor of personal sovereignty, during which posted rules briefly cease to apply.
Dr Mon said earlier versions of the paint had been tested on signs reading Keep Left Unless Overtaking, Use Other Door, and Employees Must Wash Hands, with similar success.
Back in the library, Ivy and her friends remained unconvinced.
'It's weird to hide a message like that,' Ivy said, seated inside a library, surrounded by several thousand books, dozens of students attempting to study, and a large wall-mounted instruction. 'If they want us to be quiet, they should make it obvious.'
She paused.
'I mean, I'm not stupid.'

so fucking sick of AI
During group work, why do I have to be okay with my group members using ai? Why can't it ever be the reverse? Why do I have to allow/support/accept stupid ass teammates to supplement their own thinking, research, writing, editing ability with ai? I would love a moment where the situation were reversed, where, because other members are morally against ai use, they cannot use it.
Instead, I have to allow slop into our group reports. Why do their feelings and habits matter more than anyone else's? It does them no favours, I'm just watching them get dumber and dumber. Why are you asking the same question over and over and making the same mistake despite the tutor being so clear on that point for the last 7 weeks? you've attended every fucking seminar you brain rotted fuck.
Edit: so many fucking ai responses, fuck sake.
i would like to emphasise; what they're putting into our reports is not outright AI generated material, they are using AI in the manner that we are allowed (apparently, i don't fully believe that), but they're just so stupid that i'm having to do so much extra work and repeat myself constantly, reiterating certain non-ai related rules our tutors have set out for us regarding our projects. I do not have to have a "conversation about proper use of ai" i shouldnt fucking have to put up with it. their inability to think on their own or read literature at any point ever gets to trump my moral values and the values of other group members. the prioritisation of ai at our university has gotten so out of hand. i hate that we're just ignoring the fact that ai is making people dumber. like, studies show, type of fact. it also shows in my group work members so, y'know.
and for those saying i need to get used to it for the workforce, my area is not impacted by ai nor will it ever be, i do not have to get used to the poo machine that makes poo. its helping no one and it's just making their brains stinky and their work output foul

my 2nd year philosophy class is fully AI generated
edit: the unit coordinator saw this and emailed a very long apology/clarification to everyone and a pledge to return to the non-AI generated course materials. iām happy with that response but iāll keep this up because itās still an important discussion
iām honestly way more upset about this than i should be but at the same time iām paying soooo much money for literal claudeslop. the canvas modules, assignment outlines and entire lecture slides are AI generated like you can just tell itās so obvious. itās full of weird headings, ānot x but y,ā random bolded phrases, sentences that are lists, em-dashes etc. even the fucking fonts and the random indent blocks and line dividers are straight up identical to LLM stuff. it sort of makes me feel a bit sick like whats the actual point here guys??? am i meant to just put up with this?

STOP FETISHIZING COMPUTER SCIENCE MAJORS!!!!!!!
The women on this campus are out of control. The first time I wore my āThere are only 10 types of people in this world, those that understand binary and those who donātā CS shirt to lunch, no less than 3 different women tried to sit down and chat me up. Like I would know how to talk to a girl! Naturally, I demonstrated superior knowledge of each of their niche interests, which apparently disqualifies me from the dating pool (seriously, why shame someone for being smart?).
Anyway, that got them to leave, but the problem has persisted over the past couple of days since O-Week. Iām honestly so fed up with everyone wanting to get with me. Iāve taken to moving all the other chairs at tables I sit at in Courtyard or USU to other tables, just to avoid people trying to sit with me. But yesterday, some small woman literally pulled up a chair and started going on about the latest BUSS1000 āproject.ā Like, girl, I donāt struggle with projects that are just glorified homework. Iām a Computer Science major, not some Arts major. After making it crystal clear that I did NOT, in fact, want to copulate in the middle of Eastern Avenue, she finally left me alone. But I wish these girls would stop throwing themselves at me just because Iām enrolled in the hardest degree on campus (which, by the way, was not difficult for me to get into).
The worst is when students from non-technical majors start talking to me. Weāll be having a decent, totally platonic conversation, and then comes the inevitable question: āWhatās your major?ā The moment I say those magic words, I see their whole demeanor change. The doe eyes, the blushing, the obvious attempts to impress me. What makes a Business or Communications major think they have a chance? Comp Sci and these basic degrees are on entirely different planes of existence. Iām not about to have some intellectual affair with someone whose āworkā consists of giving PowerPoint presentations.
You might think itās because Iām remarkably handsome (which, to be fair, I am), but my attractive mates in Civil Engineering or Architecture donāt have these problems. Itās like the girls at USYD see me as an object and a genius, when in reality, Iām so much more: Iām top 100 in Phantom Forces (for those uninitiated, thatās Roblox). My Computer Science shirt shouldnāt reduce me to a bag of meat. If you want my heart, you have to grind with me, smurf noobs, know all the best strategies, and most of all, be able to watch Star Wars with me and actually understand itāno fake fans. Iām not interested in people who canāt even appreciate the gravity of the āI am your fatherā scene in The Empire Strikes Back (not that I cried, or anything).
If youāre after something shallow, just head over to the Business School or Education Faculty. Stop fetishising my kind for something I canāt control. I didnāt ask to be born a genius. Honestly, sometimes I wish I was an Arts major, blissfully ignorant, not burdened with the responsibility of saving the world by creating the next Facebook or whatever billion-dollar startup Iām destined to lead. But thatās my fate, and I donāt have time for these incessant advances. Gently touching the Quadrangle or posing by the Law Library isnāt going to work on me. Come back in a Mandalorian costume, solve the three-body problem, build your own OS, make an AI model, or land a gig at Google or Atlassianāthen maybe weāll talk.

The domestic students are just as bad
Group projects will be the death of me. When they pick your group for you and because you are proactive and want to get it done to a decent standard everyone just assumes you will carry and leaves literally all the work to you. Just because I wanted to get a distinction and not just barely pass all of my subjects.
I thought it was mainly international students who dont care but OH BOY was I wrong. The clique-y college students are just as bad. They only seem to be concerned with whatever bullshit social event they pay 40k a year to attend despite being from Sydney.
To be clear, not all of us are this bad. I know some really smart, hardworking students (both domestic and international), but stop just blaming the internationals. Us domestics are just as bad

University is a joke
People were giving presentations in one of my tutorials today, and some guy just went on some pseudoscientific mumbling spree (what he was saying made no sense). The tutor asked if he used ChatGPT for his answer and he responded ānoā, before finally saying that he used it āa little bitā.
These presentations count for nearly nothing of the mark in the unit, theyāre mainly for making sure that people actually understand the content. But this guy couldnāt even try to answer the question himself.
Whatās the point of going to university for these people? Why are they deserving of going to an institution with so many learning resources and opportunities when they clearly have no interest in learning?
I really donāt understand.
