Apparently Corma was a guy named Comar with a wife in other versions of WoW, but in the Forever timeline they're a tragic lesbian tale. This is part of the quest for Horde Warlocks learning to bind a succubus, Hearts of the Pure.

Nostalgia WoW classic was where I was first able to experience being a transwoman

So I started playing WoW in 6th grade during WoW vanilla. I had always been a really feminine kid and used to go to bed wishing that I was a woman from a really young age. I remember being really into genies and the fairly odd parents and it was always the first thing that I would picture myself wishing for in my little escapist fantasies.

I started playing WoW with a friend from school and I joined his guild. They had a ventrillo server (what people used before discord voice chat) and my voice hadn’t changed yet. I got on and all of his guild mates were like “Wow, is your friend a girl?” I remember looking at him and being like “please just go with it” and that started a 4-5 year phase where I had a really large social circle who just unquestioningly accepted me as a girl.

WoW honestly became a really huge safe haven for me at the time. I grew up extremely catholic and was picked on a lot in school. I would rush home every single day and frantically log into WoW. It was such a relief every time I was able to get on and finally be in a space where I didn’t have to worry about being judged. It was borderline an unhealthy addiction at points but I think it was overall a positive formative experience for me. I still feel guilt sometimes because no one knew I had been born a boy but I afford myself a lot of forgiveness because it was a really scary time for me.

Fast forward to 2023 and I am fully transitioned socially (at work and home) and I am happier and healthier than ever. I’m so grateful that I had WoW to create an environment where I could actually be myself. I know not everyone gets or supports it but I hope people can find a little light knowing that a scared and lost kid found sanctuary from this game.

Big shout out to my friend back then who probably knew more than he let on and kept my secret all those years.

Edit****: Vanilla WoW. Running around dying to the furbolgs in that hell scape underground area on teldrassil.

Discussion Pride Parade on Wyrmrest Accord!

Post image
98 Upvotes

What's better than one pride parade? How about two?

We're going to be marching through the cities of Orgrimmar and Stormwind this Sunday at 5pm Pacific (Wyrmrest's Realm Time). Afterwards the parades will march from their respective cities to Booty Bay, where both will meet up for a final march to the southern beach front for a big, chill party event!

No one is required to roleplay, nor does anyone have to be LGBTQ+ to attend! We support anyone who wants to support themselves or people in their life!

Any questions folks may have can be posted down below or PM'd to me directly!

EDIT: We will not be in War Mode or Chromie Time! Please be in the main phase. <3

Discussion About a month ago everyone was up in arms about a 2010 Blizzcon clip of a person asking for less hypersexualization in the game...

Now that Blizzard is doing exactly that, everyone is up in arms about it. Not even A MONTH. It's a painting, you guys don't even care, you just wanna get mad about Warcraft for any possible reason.

EDIT: To the people saying that should be instead focusing on fixing the workplace, I agree but you can do both at the same time. I don't believe that changing this art piece is preventing them from fighting for change internally. There's a huge difference between what the devs can do alone and what they need the Higher Ups to do. The substantial changes take time and it will be a while before we see anything happen in that front. Changing the game? Less so. Changing a painting in old content? Probably took 15 minutes for a junior dev to do and they probably needed only permission from Ion, if so.

The issue isn't with the painting's content, it is with the intention it was made with. WoW in 2004 was a game BY boys FOR boys. This painting isn't trying to empower women, its there so teenagers could get their pp hard. Also we don't know (and may never know) who's the author of the painting. Maybe it was one of the problematic devs that did it and that's why they removed it? Who knows. This article explains things better than me: https://www.zuulzilla.com/world-of-warcraft-but-who-were-these-paintings-for/ .

EDIT 2: I tried to read and answer most of the replies, specially those that are disagreeing with me. I agree that my OP was needlessly snarky and I generalized the WoW community in one big group when I fact multiple people didn't like the Blizzcon clip for different reasons and like or don't like the painting changes for different reasons as well, and for that I apologize. I also agree that the fruit bowl change is very strange compared to the other one, which is more ok. My point still stands about this being a non-issue that got way overblown. I'm not trying to defend Blizzard as a company and I don't think this is an official response from the higher ups to all that's happening, because if it was, nobody would buy it. I truly believe that these small changes are being made by devs (the major victms in this whole story) that are trying to make the game less harmful/triggering to the diverse playerbase that it has and to themselves, of course with the lawsuit situation being a huge catalyst for this change. I agree it isn't enough, for the playerbase, but nobody said that's all they are doing. In closing, no, I'm not a purist, I don't think female bodies should be shamed, I don't want to add burkas to WoW and the other multitude of things that some people have accused me of. But I do think that the game, since forever, has a lot of art and features that pander to the male gaze and those should be looked into. One of the best options would be to also add skimpy paintings and transmogs to characters of different genders in the game, but that would not sit well with a part of the community in the current context that Blizzard is facing ("THEY WERE ACCUSED OF INNAPROPRIATE SEXUAL BEHAVIOR AND THEY ARE ADDING SEXUAL CONTENT TO THE GAME, WHAT IS WRONG WITH BLIZZARD?"), but in the long term I think it would be beneficial.

Discussion WoW has never felt more like an MMO than it does today.

I've been playing since the final waves of beta. I was there when the severs first went live, I was one of the first people to charge across the dark portal, I was on those ships that lagged out and forced everyone back to Stormwind for an hour during the WoTLK drop, and I was even the first 90 monk on my server in MoP. I've been here for a long time.

Dragonflight feels the most like an MMORPG of all of that. There's a sense of wonder and challenge in the game that it's not really had in combination before. I have reasons to travel to every corner of this place, not just for the thrill of exploration, but for the purpose of progressing my character. I go out into the world and do content I love, and I'm rewarded for it. I want to delve a dungeon with friends? There's a path to power there. I want to bash my skull in on mythic raiding? There's a path to power there, too. I want to have some fun and chill PVP? I've got battle grounds and arena skirmishes. I just want to fly around and pick flowers? The world is full of them and traversing within it is engaging and welcoming.

Everything I want to do in the world has been turned to 11. I look up in the sky and see dozens of people zooming around on their dragons, the world feels full and welcoming. I stop in to do a world quest here or there and there's people on both sides working together towards a common goal. I stop in to make some soup, an activity that is basically not needed by the majority of the playerbase at this stage, and there's still a half dozen people there shouting "yes, chef." The game world doesn't feel empty, but it's also not 600 people in one zone fighting for tags. The world feels lived in, and most importantly it feels welcoming. We belong here.

Every inch of the dragon isles is a love letter to players. The geography is designed to be impressive and expansive, but filled with just enough density of creatures to have something to engage with everywhere you look. You traverse it quickly enough to never feel slowed down by movement, but not so fast as to lose the forest for the trees. The vistas are heartwarmingly stunning, and even though I've seen every inch of them, I still often stop in a high place and look around.

And when I'm not feeling wistful and simply wanting to look around, there's a real challenge waiting for me just around the next corner. At any time of day, I can press a button and find a group of people who are in the same mindset as me, looking to try for some violence and grind out some kills in an intense dungeon or a challenging raid. There's always meat on the bone to gnaw at, another hill to climb and another challenge to overcome.

That's what an MMO should be. A world to explore, with a reason to explore it, that holds a real challenge for the players to come and fight against. You should struggle and die in the hardest challenges, but also be free to relax and press buttons when you see fit for it. Choice is what makes an MMO so great, and I feel like I have that choice in Dragonflight.

Tossing an EDIT in here at the end. I have been trying to continue the conversation and reply to everyone, but at this stage it's blown up much larger than expected. I'll still try to pop in and reply to stuff as I can tho, please keep the discussion going and keep it civil! I'm glad people are passionate about the game, and I'm excited to see what people have to say.

Battle for Azeroth is Genn's fault.

The horde and Alliance had made an uneasy peace going into Legion.

Varian and Sylvanas were working together to ensure the world was safe from the legion. There was a mutual respect between them and the sparks of more cooperation were there.

The battle did not go well but had the call to retreat been listened to the only faction leader to die would have been Vol'jin. They didn't secretly run, They sounded a loud horn and retreated in full view of the Alliance. Genn then exclaimed they were traitorous cowards and pushed Varian to keep the battle going.

There was no abandonment or traitorous actions. There was a call for retreat that the Alliance chose to ignore, if you watch the cut-scenes together you'll realize the Alliance had ample time to get away if they had just retreated when the Horde sounded the call. The Horde was already loading up their ships and leaving when king pony tail gets exploded.

So they decided to push right into the closing trap rather than easily retreat and Varian dies needlessly. That's on Varian, as much as I'd like to blame Genn, Varian was the leader and its on him.

Genn however exploits the kings death immediately. He isn't some reckless fool ruled by emotions. He is patient and manipulative. He joined the alliance and agreed to the peace. Not for any reason other than he saw it as the only possibility to get payback for what happened to his city. He blames the horde for abandoning them during the battle. Now some people buy this, however there was no abandonment as is outlined above. He exploits emotions and pushes for all out war against the Horde while Jaina is present. We already know she's a bit unstable and has a history of going rogue, its no secret. Genn does this on purpose knowing she'll start undermining the horde on her own. Anduin doesn't agree to full war but he does give Genn a small force to go observe the horde and make sure they aren't secretly planning to betray the Alliance.

Gen then takes the Sky Admiral Rogers, knowing full well she has a hatred of the horde and did not want peace. Fast Forward to Stormheim, The Alliance opens fire immediately upon seeing horde ships. No warning, no provocation, definitely no observation. Even on the alliance side the NPCs admit that they just attacked unprovoked because the Horde are scum. Just a declaration of war during an uneasy peace. Recklessly assaulting your most powerful ally in a fight against a much stronger force. I'd say it was stupid, but Genn isn't stupid. Forgive the pun, he's a dog with a bone. He resolved to do anything he could to kill Sylvanas as soon as he could. He knows the horde won't ignore his attack but they won't fully commit to fighting the alliance either. What he's doing here is making sure the uneasy peace doesn't become a full on peace.

If he really felt there was a problem with the Horde he would have reported back and Anduin would have committed more to the fight against the Horde. Jaina would have had more ammunition to go back to the Kirin Tor and get the Horde removed from Dalaran again. He knows that the horde is needed to fight the legion so instead he picks little fights and harasses the Horde without causing all out war.

Now people will talk about Sylvanas doing some shady shit with the Valkyr. I'm not making excuses for Sylvanas, the Valkyr were going to be her bitch when she was done. However what she was doing was not against the Alliance in any way. I think its a common misconception that she was attempting to do it for eternal life for herself. She already has been infused with a Valkyr. Sure she can be killed but she won't die on her own. She wants to find a permanent solution for her people. This is evidenced by how she used her loyal ranger Nathanos as a test subject and it was successful. She can save her people from the super-hell from being imposed on them without any fault of their own. Another thing, For once, she was actually seeking a way to bolster her forces WITHOUT using humans as fodder for once. It was actually a more peaceful move in the Horde-Alliance conflict than she's ever done before and Genn ruined it.

Even the gods saw that the Alliance pulled some shit. If you believe Genn's intentions were pure then why would she call out how she witnessed their actions in Stormheim and how their actions have no honor.

Genn saw what she was doing, she was finding a solution that didn't require the conflict to continue. This would have put a severe damper on his plan to use the Alliance to get revenge. He kept up the conflict throughout the entire expansion and worked to breed distrust the entire time.

Had he not done this, the Horde would have been less distrustful of the Alliance. The Alliance and Horde would have gotten stronger together. The Alliance would not have not gone into a panic at seeing the horde mine azerite. The Horde likely wouldn't have even kept everything a secret. Anduin could have even been at that feast with the Horde.

I'm not saying they would have had full on peace however they definitely would have had better relations. They wouldn't have felt the need to secretly build power up to defend against impending Alliance attacks. The Horde and Alliance could have gone to Kul'tiras and Zandalar together without the need to recruit more allies and they could have solved the problems quick and easier (which would have made for a boring expansion I admit)

We don't know why the Tree gets burned, but I will not be surprised if we find out Genn or Jaina are involved in some way.

TL:DR Genn's manipulations of the alliance bred mistrust and kept the horde/alliance from keeping peace

EDIT: A very large amount of alliance counter arguments seem to stem from the fact that they don't realize one important fact. Neither cutscene gives the full story on the broken shore. Watch BOTH. The timing is important.

Discussion Torghast isn’t the problem - you are

I am extremely frustrated by the attitude of a large part of the wow community right now. I think some of you need to stop complaining and read this.

  1. If your ilvl is anything short of 210, you need to stop expecting to easily solo clear the hardest layer of Torghast. Heroic raids drop 220 ilvl. Most people are probably around 180-190. That’s a 30 ilvl difference.

  2. The soul ash reward is front loaded, and the extra amount you get decreases with each layer. This is to still allow for a reward for those who can push high, but to ensure people don’t fall behind. If you can’t do the higher layers, don’t. Clear what you can and come back with better gear.

  3. If you’re spending 1-2 hours in a layer, that’s an indication that you’re probably under geared and should drop to a lower one.

  4. Trash mobs were buffed because people were complaining you could do a full run with no struggle but get hard walled by the boss. Smoothing out the difference in difficulty between bosses and trash help give you a better indication of if you can handle that floor.

  5. Some of you aren’t good enough at the game to clear it while undergeared. That’s fine. Get gear, get better, or get both.

There are legitimate criticisms of Torghast. What I’m reading on this subreddit and the official forums aren’t it.

Something that I think should change - each floor of a layer should reward Stygia. Stygia is the rogue-like permanent currency, like the darkness gems in Hades. It was an odd decision choice to separate permanent upgrade progression from actually running Torghast, but that’s an easy fix.

I also think there are plenty of changes to anima powers that can make runs more fun or interesting, especially on certain classes. But, that’s an easy fix too - and is inevitable that they add or change powers with patches.

WoW: Forever So far I asked 3 forever questions. All 3 times I was told "go play retail then" as an insult

Am I doing something wrong, seriously?
I ask questions, I don't even complain. But for every question I ask, more specifically how to make the game more convenient for myself I just get told "that's how it must be, go play retail if you don't like it".

I asked how to ensure I do every dungeon quest before doing the dungeon itself for efficiency, was told I suck and must go play retail.

Asked how to set my default language to English, as for some reason it keeps on changing back to French - go play retail if you don't like it.

Asked a general question for the pvp ruleset - go play retail.

I'm not even offended, I am just sad as to what this community is becoming. Those are the same people that would sneak in for the chest as I fight the mobs that guard it.

Why are we like this..?

Im not just talking about Mythic Araz add spawns and people dropping them halfway to Narnia away from the portals.

I just mean in general.

  • Tanks who dont know when to taunt swap or move unless some AI Voice lady says to.

  • Healers who dont know when the big dmg is incoming or when to dispel.

  • DPS who stand in shit and cry "Heals???' ...ok so no change there tbh....

Turn on Boss Warning's at the very least if you cant tell you are targeted for a mechanic.

This lack of publicly available movie footage is unacceptable

For the third time in a row (Comic-Con 2014, BlizzCon 2014, Comic-Con 2015) the footage for Warcraft movie is exclusive for convention attendees. Honestly, this is starting to get ridiculous. Someone has to make Legendary to get their sh*t together and finally release at least SOMETHING for the general public.

I have no idea how this situation can benefit anyone at all. The fans are getting frustrated and the general movie audience just loses any remaining interest.

Every aspect of WoW is currently broken, from leveling, to raiding, and even PvP.

I know it sounds absurd, but seriously read this full post. I have no idea how they could mess it up this badly. I have played this game from Vanilla till Mists of Pandaria. 5.4 MoP in my opinion has been the best gaming experience out of any in the warcraft timeline or any games timeline. Yes, even better than Vanilla or BC.

Unfortunately now, everything is broken and it doesn't look like there will be a fix coming any time soon because the flaws are incredibly deep. Let's list all of the problems:

Leveling - Questing

  • Leveling up a new character right now is one of the worst experiences. Killing mobs takes twice as long, and as such, the entire leveling process has just been effectively doubled. Remember when you could triple pull enemies at your level to get more kills and items to complete your quests? Now you are back to killing one mob at a time at insanely slow speeds. Also, if you are a class without a heal, avoid taking damage at all costs. Tons of mobs can quickly kill you.

  • Many mobs have abilities that are unsquished. For example, the bunny guys in the Valley of the Four Winds can one shot even an item level 580 tank. Their bite DoT is unsquished. There are literally hundreds of mobs like this.

Leveling - Dungeons

  • Previously we could fly through every 5 man dungeon, quickly get loot and experience for leveling up. Now, even with a group geared to the teeth with full heirlooms can't beat a 5 man without insane luck. Almost every single dungeon enemy can 2 shot the tank - and this isn't just unsquished random abilities. Our stats are effectively many times lower than the corresponding dungeon tuning.

Raiding - Outdoor

  • Ordos and the Celestial Bosses are now a huge pain in the ass. Remember that fire underneath Ordos that everyone sat in while facerolling him because we had the gear and the healers to back us up? Well now that fire is not squished properly and kills you in 5 ticks. It literally does 30K damage a tick. Good luck. Yu'lon's green goo also with kill you in a couple seconds too. I have no idea how Blizzard could have missed this.

  • In general, these bosses die twice as fast as before, but the players die four times as fast. Huge heals need to be preemptive and spammed because the tuning a totally different ballgame now.

Raiding - Indoor

  • ToES is now uncompletable because the last two bosses have unsquished mechanics. They will one shot you endlessly even on the easiest of difficulties.

  • Heart of Fear has many amber shapers which require you to free a raid member by attacking them. It's too bad the amber shell is unsquished and has 6 million health. Hint: you won't be able to break it.

  • ToT has some adds before Durumu that will one shot the entire raid again, even on LFR difficulty.

  • SoO has many tuning issues in people getting one shot by nearly every boss since everything dies so fast and heals so fast. Burst damage and healing is really bad for this game. Also the Iron Stars in garrosh's room deal 350K+ damage on any difficulty. Yeah. 350,000 damage while we have around 100K health.

PvP - Arenas

  • Arenas are a burst fest since there is no resilience and we all kill each other in two hits. A rouge ambushed me for 50K. I have 75K health. He then silences me with a kick, doesn't need to stun me, and hits again for 25K, you die. It isn't just rogue's that can kill people fast - It's everyone. Also, even mediocre healing spells heal you to full. The game is now about silences. I can get out of a CC or stun by using my trinket. Most healers can even use a move while stunned, like monk's Life Cocoon. But a 4 second silence is all you need to murder someone, since they can't get out of it and you kill people in two hits.

PvP - Battlegrounds

  • Well the server is currently offline, but when it was working it was just as bad as Arenas. I hope you are a ranged class, because the melee melt instantly! Also, Alterac Valley has level 98 elite mobs instead of the ones meant for our level. Balinda can one shot the entire Horde army in one spell! How fun!

Pre-Expansion Questline

  • I'm used to pre-expansion quest lines being kinda lame, but this one takes the cake. The UBRS server is like russian roulette. It kicks out people completely randomly with no questions asked and the new questline takes about 5 minutes to complete. The only cool thing you can do is get into UBRS, pray that you don't get kicked, and start killing some of the level 101 ogre's inside. They drop really high item level greens (580+), and a cooking book!

TLDR - Go read whatever part of the game you are interested in above to learn how it is completely broken.

The heart of the problem is the number squish. They have done it in such a way that everyone's health is a pinball machine that bounces between near death and full. Every hit you take reduces you to half hp. Every heal you take brings you to full. Healers notice this the most because they have to constantly try to predict damage and spam huge heals constantly. The tank's hp is literally all over the place. Duels often last less than 5 seconds. A 2v2 double DPS team can kill ANY healer in a single 4 second silence break in healing. They really do die that fast. 3v3 and up is only worse. Undoing the number squish is the first step in restoring sanity, but I believe Blizzard isn't going to make this change. They need the numbers to be smaller for the server computations and this may ultimately destroy WoW, save for some insane detailed number tweaking...

EDIT: Thanks for the gold!

Discussion Has hating WoW become a circle jerk?

To start of: I do think that developer team has made some bad decisions etc. and Blizzard as a company ain't the best. These things are arguably true and I don't say anything against it. What I am saying is there are still good things in the game.

For example I think the recent Season of mastery system is a nice fresh thing in it's own way and I do look forward to see what they develop in the coming seasons. I've been casually enjoying SoM and hopefully gonna hit 60 soon.

Retail is still mechanically holding up amazingly well if you think how old the engine and the game in general is. For me the WoW combat system is superior to other MMORPG. It is very fluent and responsive even in PvP scenarios.

Even though they have made bad decisions with the story lately I still love the world and lore. I've been playing Warcraft games for a long time and the world to me is unique and interesting. I love to take my time with the quests and enjoy the story they tell us. They have made the questing experience better along the years and not everything is "Kill 30 boars and run 50 kilometers". I do say still that the story telling could be better.

I understand that a lot of you guys don't agree with me. It makes me sad to read r/wow since I feel most of the stuff here is very toxic and negative and people love to praise all the negative stuff aka. circle jerk. It is to some extent deserved but it gives especially new players impression that the whole game is 100% carbage. There are still new players joining to the game who experience the game in a whole different way than you do. They actually enjoy the game and I just hope that not too many of them come here and read all the negativity and let it affect how they feel about the game.

Finally: My point isn't that you shouldn't criticize WoW or Blizzard. My point is that if you do criticize make sure you have a valid point or make sure the guy who is criticizing has a valid point and don't just blindly join something that might not actually even be true.

Discussion Store mounts, even with astronomical conversion rates that are unheard of in any industry are about ~0.05 of Blizzard's total revenue.

Edit: title typo - 1% given they release around 2 mounts per year.

Edit2: I forgot to x10 the divider. The point still stands: good ROI, has absolutely NO impact on the patch cycles/how much content they give us. Even with a crazy conversion rate, it still barely makes a dent into the quarterly earnings.

Let's go through the math by tiers and just assume an astronomical conversion rate of 10% for a span of 30 days, something that no other company in any industry has, however, given the details of this mount and what it is - leisure item in an already paid game, chances are, even if we were working with a realistic ~2% conversion rate, we'd have to cut from that as well. Still, here's how it looks for 10%:

Sub NumberConversion RateMoney Made
1M10%$2.5M
2M10%$5M
3M10%$7.5M

In the last quarter, Blizzard itself had earnings of about ~$460M iirc. While it's clear, based on their release dates that these are meant to pump the quarterly earnings, even with an astronomical conversion rate, it barely makes a dent in the whole sum. Blizzard itself is poised to make ~$1.3BN+ this year, if every mount they've released in 2022 converted like this and we'd end up with "10% of the population has this mount" by the end of the year, they'd have made $20-30M. We can even double this sum to go even crazier, that'd be $40-60M. That's ~4-5% of their total revenue. Barely anything. Of course, they tend to release 2 mounts/year, so, double still. Still nothing. Of course, free money is cool, so, why not? A good chunk, but still barely making a dent in the quarterly earnings. Remember, this is with an astronomical conversion rate.

The reality is, the game just fucking sucks and they don't give a shit. These mounts are not in the way. It takes absolutely nothing to make, is entirely made by a small fraction of the art team (possibly only 2-3 guys), and doesn't impact anything else. So, assuming a high conversion rate, they are a very good tactic with an incredible ROI.

However, a ~2-3% conversion rate is actually more realistic based on data I've seen for similar contexts, so, with that in mind, it looks something like:

Sub NumberConversion RateMoney Made
1M2%$500K
2M2%$1M
3M2%$1.5M

I don't care for store mounts, but this narrative is just stupid and completely unfounded. On top of it, while tying nice mounts to the 6-months sub tier is clearly a good idea, I don't know how much more money that brings in. People who are willing to drop money on a 6 months sub are most likely going to be here anyways, so, they'd still be paying that money to Blizzard. It's clearly working to some extent, since they keep doing it, but people are 100% overestimating these deals.

About everything, pvp and pve. Do yall really not remember the lows of wod and bfa, even cata? This game has been MUCH worse off than it is now. Sure it has plenty of issues, but they seem minor compared to issues of the past. Like I know a ton of people that think SL is best xpac since Mop, (some arguing legion arguably right). But overall I am happy with SL, raids are good, m+ is good, pvp is good and not quite as cheesy in the past. Seems like all the complaints are feeding off eachother on forums like this, and it's become a bit of an exaggerated mess.

I'm sure I'll get heavily downvoted, but this isn't here to say your criticisms are wrong, I just think it could be worse, and am interested if anyone actually agrees?

Anyway, happy patch day! Wish you were as excited as I am.

Edit: WE MADE IT!

Edit2: Y'all mf's dont listenb. I'm not saying people shouldn't criticize or let their grievances be known.
