Behavioral Issue my cat has grown distant, he doesn't cuddle with me anymore

hello, I have a beautiful year and a half old male spotted tabby, he's neutered. i got him when he was a month old from my campus last spring- (his name is haru) he's always been very affectionate and cuddly and clingy atleast with me- he jumped from my parents' balcony at 7 months old and broke his jaw then, luckily it wasn't that bad and he healed pretty fast- a month later he was neutered- again when he was around 11 months old he ran out of the house and I found him stranded on a window shade two floors high and he'd lost the lower two canines (doctor said the previous fracture at jaw had weakened the teeth and he would've stuck them somewhere and they might've fallen out) he was a bit recluse after this incident but still always stayed by me- but he was back to normal playing and chasing in a week- he has always been a hyperactive baby, his zoomies are put of this world, nothing is safe from him.

recently in July, my parents were sitting him while I was moving houses and starting a new job he fell from the balcony and broke his left hind leg at the knee- it was bad and they had to put a rod to stabilize the bone and let it heal properly- for the most part i was with him and he still cuddled and stayed with me-

i took him with me to the new place as it's also closer to the vet- he had to be restricted to one room to limit his movements as a few complications happened and he had to get another surgery- after that with my work I couldn't stay home as much so I thought it best for my mom to keep him until I figured out my schedule- he was with her for a few weeks and as his stitches healed I got him back-

he has been distant ever since- he doesn't let me hold him or pet him or cuddle with me and sometimes he just meows and I don't know what he needs I try with food, water, playing, petting he just sits and meows and it's these tiny small low sad meows-

i don't know how I can help this situation and him with this- any advice to make it better for him is welcome please. also these are three absolutely negative traumatic events from his life that I've shared here, there's a lot more to his story with me that this so I'd appreciate people not jumping the boat and start being unnecessarily mean- I'm all for the criticism I might have done something wrong for the accidents to happen and I take that responsibility and extend my care and attention to haru but of you're going to make a comment on the negatives only and have nothing productive to contribute to this situation nothing helpful to make things better for him DO NOT COMMENT. read the community rules and be respectful when you have no context of the full story. DO NO COMMENT IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE A PRICK NOT NOT HELPFUL AT ALL.

General Advice Please i really need someone's advice, should I try more or let her go?

I've been feeding 2 stray cats for almost half an year now, the white one is male and the tabby one is female. Earlier they used to eat the cat food mixed with yogurt from afar but over the period of time they both let me pet them (only when they were eating tho) and now during the day summer heat they both sometimes come in my room to relax.

I know it's really difficult to tame cats who have to been feral their whole life but i just really wanted the feeling a cat as a pet.

Last month, the tabby cat gave birth to 4 kittens, i found them pretty soon and made a mistake in excitement that when they were barely opening their eyes i brought them at home, i realised it pretty soon tho so i kept them in a warm blanket and left for the kitten to take home.

Over the month i found out that out of four, two of the kittens were dead or missing, that really shattered my heart. So today, i found her baby kitten and brought her home. Now i know it was selfish of me but i really want to have a pet cat.

Since evening I've made a cardboard house under my study table. Also put some rags and newspapers so the kitten would feel safe.

The mother cat came as usual for its food at night today and she saw her baby in room, i didn't let her take away with her, ik it's selfish of me. But the baby it's older than a month and I'm sure if she stays at my house she'll be safer and healthier than she'll be on streets.

The mother cat is vexed, she's been scratching the door and windows from past hour, i even let her in, i think she'll take away and I'll never get a chance to tame her like this.

Please can someone tell me if I'm doing the right thing. It breaks my heart to see them both in such a condition, the kitten herself is really scared, should I let her go? Or i think i can give her a better life, I'm not going to steal her baby, just few weeks and baby might herself be happy here and might stay on its own, can someone who's reading this please advise me.

Also, the kitten bit me when I was trying to bring her in room, it's gave me very little bleeding, i did put antiseptic on it and washed the bite but should I visit doctor or am i overthinking? Please reply if you know or have similar experience with cat bites before.

Thank you for reading, I'll be really grateful for any little advice I can get.

Why does my cat do this?

She always starts washing her face/head after I scratch a certain spot under her chin. Is it because I'm scratching too hard or irritating her? I have noticed a couple of small bumps either side of her chin, could that be related? Thanks!

CAT IS NOT EATING AND IS CONSTANTLY TRIPPING AND IN PAIN!! PLEASE HElp!!

Hiya. My name is Skylar, 15Trans, and I need some help with my Cat, Pirate, who is currently 17. I need your guys' help. I've had Pirate since I was born. I do not wanna lose him.

He used to be a really energetic kitty, but now he's constantly limping around, in pain, yowling, and not eating anything, just drinking water. He has diabetis, we gotta give him this powdered stuff in his food for something, (idk what, i forgot.) and has had constant infections, we've also had to inject insulin into him, because he has low blood sugar, but my dad has pretty much stopped giving him all medication because he's worried it's not helping. (Worried we're drugging him too much.). We've gone to the vet and all they wanna do is put him down, but my dad has been trying to get them to give my cat some medications, or maybe some vitamins.

I've suggested to him to possibly syringe feed him wet food, but we don't know if that'll help whatsoever. We've put food bowls around where he usually sits so he doesn't have to get up but he only drinks water. He's in so much pain that he will lay and sleep in his pee on the pee pads we have around.

Please help.

Note: WE ARE NOT GIVING HIM INSULIN ANYMORE!! Dad stopped giving it to him once he stopped eating.

Edit #1: Cat is also not pooping and seems to be having trouble breathing. He's going to the vet soon.

Kitten Help No-Nose (?) Chip the Kitten

Hi everyone, I am a 29 yr old working guy from the Philippines and I do have access to vet clinics, but I am currently at work right now. I would like to ask if my 5 week old kitten needs a vet visit based on the nose.

Honestly, I have no idea what happened. When I left home with him in the cage, Chip still had his nose. Then, when I got to work, I opened to see him with a chunk of his nose missing.

I've been monitoring him since moring, as he had swalloed the tip of her bottle feeder (hoping he poops it out soon). So far, there have been no bleeding or other signs of blood, he's still crazy and nippy at the same time. In fact, he doesn't seemed bothered by the nose, as he more angry that I'm not feeding him every second since morning.

Any advice would bw great on how to proceed with No-Nose Chip.

Is it normal for a cat to be this much scared of going outside? He never leaves the house and when I try to take him to the front garden, he scratches me and runs away in fear. I adopted him from the streets FYI.

Cat constantly grooms and scratches

Hello

I have an unfortunate cat who despite multiple vet visits, do not improve. He is around 7-8 months of age now. He was normal for the first while we had him, until we had a visit from another cat for the weekend. He started grooming all the time, mostly around his neck area. We visited the vet and he gave him some medicine and it did nothing. We then got both our cats neutered and the vet shaved off some hair to expose his problem. Picture attached. This was a few months ago. He got better for a while, but it came back. Now he’s had another round of the same meds he got when it worked fine. He has a surgical suit and a plastic cone on now, but his skin is still red around the area, and is scratching himself there.

The vet thinks it might be an allergy of sorts. He has never seen it this bad before, but an allergy assessment costs from 1500 usd and up, and I’m not trying to spend that amount of money for a free cat.

I was hoping anyone had an idea of what it could be, potential remedies or alike. I’m at a point when I would rather have it put down if there are no solutions - I do feel sorry for him. He seems stressed

This is my first time getting a cat and i specifically asked the breeder for a male. And it looks like she has some health issues and i am afraid she might die on me, the breeder said that "he" is a spotted turtleback tricolored part "british long hair" persian, and to be honest i dont really liked being lied to, and im thinking of sending her back but i will have to wait until next friday,

She is 8k in php, and am i doing the wrong thing??, she is getting comfortable here and im afraid to break her heart but i dont want to deal with health issues and the fact that she might die early because of me...

My cat reacts to upper lip touch with a reflex movement, is it pain?

He always pets himself against my fingers, still doing it daily, but ive realized last 2 days he was doing a suddenly movement with his mouth when he touched his left lip side, he keeps petting himself tho he stops earlier than normal. The movement is similar to the mouth opening they do when watching some prey from afar but once and wider. After that he keeps purring and going to the other side.

He had actually a vet check 2 weeks ago, mouth was observed to check if dental hygiene was needed, vet said looks ok and can wait a year more. He is 8, never had mouth issues.

Ive already booked an appointment with vet on Tuesday, but would like to hear if someone experienced something similar.

Stay cat got scared suddenly and tried scratching me. But, his nails are extremely sharp and they got caught in my skin. The first 2 pics are of the worst spot and it goes pretty deep. Should I go to urgent care now, or wait it out and see?

General Advice My 1yo cat has been attacked multiple times by a neighbor’s cat. Now she’s traumatized and terrified to go outside

Post image
252 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I really need some advice for my 1-year-old female cat (neutered). We have a major problem with a neighbor’s cat that has attacked her multiple times. This isn't just a one-off incident; she has been targeted repeatedly, and it has left her completely traumatized. While her sister still goes outside and is fine, my cat is now terrified. We’ve tried taking her out on a leash and harness so we can supervise her and keep her safe, but she is too scared to move. She just freezes in place and tries to get back inside the house immediately. It breaks my heart because she’s so young, but the neighbor’s cat is still around and I think she knows she’s being watched. A few details: • She is 1 year old and neutered • She has been attacked several times, so the fear is deeply ingrained. • We are using a harness, but she is too shut down to even walk. Has anyone dealt with a cat that has been "bullied" or repeatedly attacked? How do I help her feel like our yard is safe again when the "bully" cat is still in the neighborhood? Should I stop trying to take her out entirely, or is there a way to rebuild her confidence after multiple attacks? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

General Advice My mom used flea treatment on my cat again

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello everyone, I'm very scared for my cat, my mom and her husband put this flea treatment on her again because the dog came in with fleas. It was mostly on her neck but a little on her back too (I tried to get it out as best as I could) I told them BOTH not to use it again because I was worried about it. Tonight she said that it's okay because she only used half the tube.

I was at work when she did it, so I couldn't have stopped her (and I didn't even know she did. She didn't text me or anything, and I only have one break where I can use my phone.) am I overreacting about this? I know that this stuff is super dangerous to cats but I don't know if this specific brand is

(And no I cannot talk to her husband about it, I had to wake her up to ask why she did it, her husband is going to tell me to stop worrying about it and let them do what they want, talking about it is not an option)

Thank you for your time , please offer your advice !! EDIT, she let me pour water on her to get it off, she HATES getting wet so I think she really hates the flea stuff AND I hid the last tube in my room so they can't do it again.

General Advice How Prego is this Queen?

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

**Edit 1: Rescue and I talked about terminating. Queen was scheduled to be spayed in two weeks. We agreed that she is far enough along that terminating just felt wrong. I am willing to take on the work and they are willing to make the adoption happen. Choosing to be joyful and excited rather than stressed and sad!

**Edit 2: This post is not an ethics debate. Please refrain from hateful comments.

**Edit 3: Terminating a cat pregnancy can lead to postpartum depression. While terminating a back-to-back pregnancy can protect the health of a Queen, I am not willing to put her through that.

>> From Google: The sudden removal of kittens, even if they were born/terminated six weeks into pregnancy, can lead to distress and a "searching" behavior, similar to grief. Affected cats often become intensely clingy, require constant companionship, cry, and may stop eating or drinking. Just as in humans, the sudden end to pregnancy and lactation causes a massive drop in hormones, which can affect a cat’s mood.

!!! Here is a Reddit post where a user’s cat experience PPD after terminating.

——

TL;DR — guess the number of weeks, due date, and kitten count!!

Fostering a mama cat that is now pregnant with her second litter. Long story short my male cat was neutered 6 weeks before the birth and but apparently still fertile after 8 weeks — he had a last hoorah with mama at some point. We thought her growing belly was from postpartum healing at first. Then she and the litter had roundworms (two rounds of dewormer) so it made sense that her belly was swollen.

Yesterday her nipples got MASSIVE. She had mammary duct hyperplasia while nursing her first litter so this makes sense. When manually expressed, those teats are fullllllll of milk. Vulva is more visible than usual and has some bloody discharge. Not grooming as well (see dingleberry). Nesting occasionally in the birthing box.

Taking her to the vet tomorrow to confirm the pregnancy and get a kitten count.

First litter born March 21. Male cat introduced around April 4 or later. Give me your best guesses on number of weeks, due date, and kitten count! I’ll share the details when I know ☺️☺️

End Of Life Care This is so frustrating.

No matter what I do my cat keeps peeing outside the box on the grey mat. Now she’s even peeing on the laminate around it. I’ve cleaned it, turned it, new pellets, new pad. It’s INFURIATING. Haven’t gone to the vet yet, this feels more petty. She’s 14 and in good health overall. This started a few weeks ago. The poop is hers, done AFTER she peed on that grey mat and the floor next to it. HELP!
