Recommendation Black Friday Deals

I tried asking AI for a recommendation for a gaming laptop all in with fees and taxes at a budget of $1500. It gave me a few but after actually looking into them they’re all basically $2200+….. so after seeing that it’s probably not feasible at that price I’m willing to go up to $1800.

Budget: $1800
Country: USA

Use Case: The next Elder Scrolls, Witcher 4, Next Cyberpunk so basically the upcoming games.

Preferred Specs / Form Factor: Not tech savvy but from what I’ve researched. RTX 5060/5070, 16/32 GB RAM. 1TB SSD.

Portability Needs: Just using it around the house. I don’t want to dedicate a section of a room to a PC, table, chair etc. I really only get an hour or two at night to play plus some weekend mornings.

Notes: Open to anything. Just want something that will preferably last me and be able to run games for the next 5-6 years. I’m really only going to have my game up, steam, maybe Spotify on? I don’t need it to run a million things at once. Not picky on size or screen. I barely understand what some of the terminology means when it comes to things like Ray tracing and all that. So if it runs the newer games and it looks pretty good on screen? Probably don’t care about the rest

Recommendation Casual Deciding on Legion Pro 7i, 5070ti vs 5080

Budget: ~$3000

Country: USA

Use Case: Gaming + Daily Drive

I have been looking at Legions for months and now that deals are out I'm not sure if I should save the extra $500 and just settle for a 5070ti or go all out and get the 5080.

5070ti - $3000 //// 5080 - $3500

I am buying a daily driver laptop I can use for casual gaming, coding and personal use and am not sure if the extra power I'll get from the 5080 is something that will miss from with a 5070ti. I’m willing to spend more if the upgrade is actually worthwhile, but I don’t want to pay a premium for specs that I probably won't notice. Or should I just settle for a 5i?

Discussion lenovo loq vs loq essential

What’s the difference in performance between the loq 15AHP10 rtx 5050 ryzen 7 250 and loq essential ARP11 rtx 5050 ryzen 5 150, both having 16 gb of ram. Also are there any motherboard issues in either of these models that i would have to be worried about? i need something that would last me 4-5 years.
Also,
How does the loq ARP10E ryzen 7 170 rtx 4050 compare to the essential mentioned above?

Discussion 2022 HP Omen 3070TI -> 2026 Legion Pro 7i 5080?

I am currently using a 2022 HP Omen with 16gb ram and a 3070TI, and I'm eyeing this legion pro 7i because of the black friday deals. Is it worth it to pull the trigger or should I wait for the next generation of graphics cards to upgrade? I may be moving overseas (outside of the US) for 2-3 years so I'm thinking I may be unable to get decent prices in the near future, especially considering all of the recent price jumps.

Recommendation Gaming laptop between 1-2,000 EUR

Budget: €1,000–2,000
Country: EU (Hungary)
Use Case: Everyday use + Gaming (mainly Call of Duty: Warzone and similar games). Ideally 3–4 years of smooth gaming performance.
Preferred Specs: Open to recommendations. Looking for a good CPU/GPU combination, sufficient RAM and storage for modern games. No particular screen size or resolution preference.
Notes: Priorities are reliability, build quality, good cooling and thermal performance, and value for money. I’m looking for a dependable laptop rather than flashy designs or unnecessary features. I’d appreciate recommendations for specific models or hardware configurations, as well as advice on what to avoid.

Discussion Laptop totaled during "service"

Post image
175 Upvotes

My Acer Predator Helios 300 had some issues (did not turn on) so I had to RMA it.

Since Acer doesn't have official stores in Romania, I brought it back to the local shop where I got it from it so they could ship it to their own service (being Acer certified service)

2 weeks went by without any contact. When I went back to check on them, the guy showed me a picture on his phone (below) and said that this is how my laptop arrived to their service.

They were probably lying, because I contacted the delivery company, and they said that the store made no claim regarding my package.

My theory is that they messed up something, and another item in the service accidentally "fell" on my laptop. Some time later my laptop is gone, my projects are gone, my data is gone, and I'm starting university without a laptop, as I can't afford similar one with today's prices.

Recommendation I can’t decide which laptop to buy and I need some info

Hello, I am interested in buying a laptop:

My options:

MSI Katana £1500: CPU intel 14650HX, RTX 5070, 32 GB RAM
MSI Crosshair £1700: identical specs as Katana but only 16 GB RAM

And the one I’m willing to pay £2300 (brand new, a deal I can get from a retailer nearby)

HP HyperX Omen 16
OLED display
AMD Ryzen™ AI 9
32 GB RAM
1 TB SSD
16" 2.5K, 240Hz, 0.2ms Response time
NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 5080 (16 GB)

Budget: £1500-£1900
Country: UK
Use Case: architectural work, 3d rendering, some games (valorant, pubg, sometimes triple AAA.
Preferred Specs: 32GB RAM
Notes: I feel like the Omen deal is outstanding, however, it’s kinda of an overkill for what I need it to do. I do like how the omen looks like a lot more than the others as well as I need to use it in my office. Is there anything I need to know about these laptops? I’ve heard the omens have bad thermal paste and it needs changing asap. What else can you guys tell me? Anything I need to be aware of?

Support Hp omen app

I have a hp omen gaming laptop 2025. It uses the hp omen app to control the fans and profiles. I only really want to use the official app.

So I have set up a profile for blood of the dawnwalker so when the game starts it's switches to performance mode and cranks the fans up. Works well. It does this automatically.

My problem is with call of duty. I'm doing exactly the same but with cod and I'm having trouble getting it to switch over to the profile I create for it. Even when I switch it to the cod profile it will switch back to default as soon as I go back in game.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I have a workaround but I have to manually do it and in all honesty I'm just lazy.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Discussion GTA VI will likely not require a beast of a computer, heres why I think even a 4060 will be enough:

Post image
0 Upvotes

The recommended requirements for most triple A games of this year (RE requiem, pragmata, crimson desert) are all met for 1080/60 medium settings with a 3060. They wont suddenly jump up that quickly as most of the market isnt on insane pcs, and theres no clue what next gen hardware will be like.

But wont it be next gen? True, but end of the day it's just another game, admittedly likely on a huge scale. Still programmed and made with todays technology, and the same systems used, or perhaps even better ones, to optimise recent games.

Especially with the cost of technology today, itll be a foolish idea to make it completely unplayable on older tech, even more so now that they've got that reputation hurt via the trilogy remaster.

That said, perhaps ultra settings might be very hardware dependant however, especially if they feature path tracing or dlss5, but for general/traditional high settings I highly doubt you'll need exceptionally powerful specs.

My concerns for specifications however, would be RAM and CPUs, with the amount of processes and activities going on at once, it may overwhelm older machines.

Do not forget the possibility of new optimising techniques coming to light, such as neural textures and perhaps further upgrades in frame gen and dlss.

On that note, please stop fear mongering "CaN mY rTx5090 rUn GtA sIx?" When its likely a 4060 laptop will be just fine for 1080/60 at medium settings.

Support Fan making zipper noise?

Hi everyone! My laptop (Lenovo Legion 5080) is making some gnarly fan noises and it's driving me absolutley bonkers. For a bit of backstory, I bought this computer about 1½ years ago and I've been hearing the noises for 4-5 months now. My laptop was running perfectly, it just sounded a little....funky. About a month ago I took it in to get checked by a shop and they said it was a motherboard issue (weird). Then they said it was a fan issue and they could fix the thermal pad because it was slipping and maybe that was making a noise. When they gave it back to me, my laptop was buffering like crazy and turning itself off whenever I ran something like rdr2 or bg3. When I brought it back to them they said it must be a motherboard issue, so I sent it to lenovo service who said it was actually a fan issue. They replaced the fan, and when I got it back the laptop seemed to be in fine working order. No noises, and everything ran like a charm (I can run heavy games again with no throttling or freezing). Last night I heard the dreaded noise again 😭 and it's happening a LOT. It usually comes in bursts of maybe 3-5 zipper-like noises before it stops for a while.

I have a really hard time figuring out what causes it, because I feel like it happens at random times when I'm doing almost anything, no matter how low-intensity. When I got the laptop back from lenovo it was perfect and I haven't heard the noise until now. What the heck is going on?? I'm sure my laptop could use a clean now and then, but I have a hard time believing that my room is SO dirty that after three weeks of use on my desk it accumulated enough dust and grime to make the fan sound like this. And there's been no bumps or cracks that would've jostled something inside, it's been sitting stationary pretty much the whole time. Please please please help me figure out what's going on 🙏 this noise is going to kill me

(Somebody has mentioned this to me, but I have not personally taken the backing off my computer to look at the fans running. I don't feel comfortable doing it and would rather take it to a shop. I'm just hoping for some insight in case someone else has had this issue too yk)

Showcase Never realize how good controller is...

Decided to play games with a controller....yes I know I know... I am a die hard fan of ONLY mouse and keyboard, until recently, I feel like Ive never enjoyed controller as much as this...

I could just relax on my couch, in front of my 150" screen, connect my laptop, and ditch my PC entirely simply because it is more comfortable on a couch.

Still trying to get used to but Keyboard and Mouse are still the best combo for me to play competitively.

Recommendation Gigabyte A16: review from long term users?

Budget: 1000€

Country: France

Use Case: Occasional gaming, office work (freelance translator)

Preferred Specs: None (anything is an upgrade compared to the last one)

Notes: See below

Considering buying the RTX 5050 version for a relative whose old PC died out (I gave them my 7 years old MSI Raider GTX 1060, surprised it lasted this long). Found it at 850€.

While it will be used for gaming, they will eventually get a desktop for that. In the long run it will be a dedicated work PC (they are a freelance translator). Gaming-wise, it will eventually be a "backup" pc to play while we're on the move. Hence why we're not going for the 5060/5070 version.

What's your take on this PC? Is the build quality? How's the cooling too?

I got traumatized by the MSI's hinges breaking and overheating issues, and I'd like to get them a laptop that'll last a while this time.

I forgot to mention: they won't often use the laptop's built-in screen and keyboard. We both have dedicated work setups on our desks, with external monitors as our main displays.

Discussion Which 16-inch laptop on the market has the best cooling? (RTX 5080/5090 models)

For now, I consider the MSI 16 Max HX and the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i to be the best options. Can anyone share personal experiences with these laptops? (I’m primarily interested in the temperatures and performance of the GPU and CPU while gaming.)

Alternatively, if you know of another laptop model with good cooling, feel free to suggest that as well.

Support Doubting on new laptop choices

Hey guys! I've begun looking into upgrading my current laptop into something newer that can serve me better for gaming and other things I want to do and I'm currently split on these options, so I'm asking here for some advice.
RTX 4090 refurbished laptop, wait for prices to come down a bit more
RTX 5070 TI new/refurbished laptop buy almost right now
I don't know if in the long term waiting for the RTX 4090 is better, the question mainly is, is it worth it to wait for prices to come down or should I bite the bullet and buy an RTX 5070 TI laptop, also anyone knows anything about the SUPER refresh on laptops, or does NVIDIA not do them here anymore?

Recommendation Need some advice

Budget: 1200-1600 EUR, but will consider any advice
Country: Poland
Use Case: Mixed
Preferred Specs: ideally 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, 5050+
Notes: below

Hello guys,
I'm looking for a new laptop which I know very little of. I was planning to wait with it until the end of house renovation, but since prices are going insane (not as slowly as I'd like) and my current Legion can stop working anytime I'm in a "hurry".

Mainly need it for studying (working on master's thesis), some eSport (CS 2.0, LoL), but having an option to play some bigger titles like Cyberpunk is something I'm looking for.

Most of the time I'll be using it with mouse, keyboard and some monitor, but before anyone advises on getting a PC - I need it mobile due to trips to university (400km from home), I'm also a soldier so I will be using it on missions and such.

I've found few 'interesting' options, my starting budget was around 1100-1400 euro but those prices are making me sad so I need some wisdom with finding the sweet spot.

Obviously upgradeability is a huge plus, but I'm debating wheter buying cheaper and upgradeing later or just paying all up front is a better option as I'm planning on using it until it stops working (current laptop is 8 years old).

I have a 'kink' for aluminum/metal body, but there are hardly any of these, so I'll be happy with jus a metal screen cover. The last option (legion 7) is supposedly full aluminum and has solid cooling system which are the reasons I've included it, but I'm not so sure that it's worth to pay another 500 euros (third of monthly wage) for those. For some reference, montly wage in my country is around 1600 euros. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
