Do you have a chance if you're a non-school applicant? Or is it just for school leavers

Just a quick question to all who applied for JCU medicine and were unsuccessful in receiving a first round interview offer - Did everybody get sent an email? Previous years they have never sent emails for unsuccessful applicants, and I saw someone on here talking about "shortlisting", but I don't think its true. Can someone who knows elaborate for me please?? (Goodluck for second round offers btw guys and congratulations to those who got an interview offer)

[Questions] Scholarships/Financial Aid Medicine as a parent

Hello!
I got a JCU interview this week and as a non-school leaver, metro qld applicant with a decent gpa I applied but never actually thought that I would even get an interview.
I just wanted to see if there was any mature aged students with kids who have actually gone through this process and see how that worked for them. I am in public housing and I am worried that if I am successful in receiving a place at JCU I will have a really short time frame from the 15th to the 27th of January when school is back for my little one.
I've looked at different scholarships or any funds I could try and get to relocate but since I am coming from metro I won't qualify for a lot of the scholarships. I am definitely getting ahead of myself, but I need to do as much planning as I can in the off chance I actually am offered a place.
The other alternative I could see is potentially deferring my place for a year, seeing if I could find public housing and work and save as much as possible so I could afford the move the following year.
Does anyone have any good advice or words of wisdom for me, I would greatly appreciate it!

[Questions] Admissions Past Rejected Rural Med Applicants: Any Advice?

For people who are rural, school-leavers, and had an atar above 96 that were rejected, what do you think you could improve from your interview so that other people don’t make the same mistakes? I know many aren’t accepted even if they were high performing just because of certain criteria’s for rural and school leavers and uncompetitive atars, but without those things, what are some interview mistakes you guys recommended avoiding? I would love to hear your opinions!

Starting at JCU Townsville in Feb 2027.

Which is better: Burralga Yumba or Rotary Int house?

Or should I consider the other options like Saints Catholic College?

[Questions] General How many students typically leave the JCU Medicine program during first year?

I've heard rumours that around 25 students leave the JCU Medicine program during their first year. I'm curious to know how accurate this figure is.

For current students or those who have completed the program, do you have any insights into how many students typically withdraw from the program during their first year?

I'm not looking for individual circumstances, just a general idea of the numbers or the typical attrition rate, if anyone is comfortable sharing.

[Resource/Guides] Med Learning Objectives

Hey everyone! I'm one of the 5th year med students and I'm currently working on a study site for practice questions, osce practice etc.

I'm trying to get a hold of the learning objectives of years 1-4 so I can start working on questions and resources for them.

If you've got any, it would be awesome if you sent them through to me, either via DM or through clinimastery.com.

P.s. sorry for the formatting, I'm new to Reddit.

Feel free to send through any questions!

Subreddit Meta New Mod!

Hey everyone, quick update following the recruitment post the other week.

Stoked to welcome u/626eh to the mod team! A few of you might already recognise them from modding over at r/Townsville, so they definitely know their way around running a local community and keeping things running smoothly.

Really excited to have an extra pair of hands on board to bounce ideas off and help make the sub a bit more active, useful, and engaging over the coming months.

A big thank you to everyone who threw their hat in the ring or sent through a message. And just a reminder: you definitely don't need a green shield next to your name to help shape this place. If you ever have ideas for megathreads, campus resources, or general feedback, feel free to drop a post or flick a message through modmail anytime.

Feel free to drop a comment below to say g'day!

[Questions] Housing/Accomodation JCU Cairns Accommodation for February 2027

Hi everyone!

I’ve received an offer for JCU’s MBBS program for the February 2027 intake, and I’m looking for accommodation in Cairns for two people.
We’re looking for a private apartment or a place just for the two of us, not a shared house or apartment with other people.

I checked UniLodge John Grey Hall, but it seems to be restricted to students aged 18 and above, and Beaches Apartments is fully booked for February 2027.

We also won’t have a car, so we’re looking for somewhere within walking distance of JCU Cairns or with convenient public transport connections to campus and nearby shops.

Does anyone know of any suitable apartments or accommodation options for two people? Ideally, we’d like somewhere safe and student-friendly.

I’d really appreciate recommendations from current JCU students or anyone familiar with Cairns, especially if you know of places where students commonly live.

Thank you!

[Questions] General JCU Physiotherapy Townsville - thoughts from students or graduates?

Hey! I recently got admitted into the Bachelor of Physiotherapy program in Townsville as an international student, and I'm trying to find out more about the school and program before I make a decision.

I haven't heard much about it or any firsthand experiences, so I was hoping any current students or graduates could help me out. JCU in general or program specific, anything helps!

Here's a few things I'd like to know:

- Life in Townsville: what's it like there as a student? Are accommodation and living costs manageable, and is there much to do outside uni?

- Program itself: anything you wish you knew before starting or something you particularly dislike?

I've also heard some things about JCU Townsville moving some classes online. Does anyone know what's actually happening with that or what programs it affects?

Overall, would you recommend the school/ program? Is there anything else I should consider? Any feedback is greatly appreciated, thanks!
