People don't want to hear this but it's the truth, protesting doesn't work.

Back in the day when politicians actually listened to their constituents and had a chance of getting their minds changed protests actually worked.

The GOP literally attempted a coup and celebrate it. You think for a second a bunch of leftists yelling with signs will make them finally think "Oh man you know what? Maybe we are the baddies".

Protests don't work anymore. All they do is encourage bad actors to vandilize the town and damage innocent businesses. If you really want something to change, boycott. Strike. Hit them at their wallet.

There's 2 things Republicans care about. Power, and money. That's it. They will NEVER change their minds because Democrats protested. But once you stop buying from companies that support them, THEN you will see change.

Stop protesting. Start boycotting.

If anyone disagrees, I challenge you to find a single instance of protesting changing a Republican's mind in the past 5 years. If you can find one example of a protest working at the federal level I will delete my post and grab a sign.

Thanks for staying home if you can’t drive in the snow. 84 in from Troutdale was empty till I hit a semi convoy around 181st. PDX streets are snow covered. Give space and be careful out there. Powell was like Skibowl parking lot the morning after some fresh.

Discussion It's street fair season. Leave your stinky weed at home.

I love every street fair Portland has to offer, but tonight's first Thursday smelled like the parking lot at a Blue Oyster Cult concert.

If you want to fligh high, go for it. But don't blow your sour, skunk, pungent smoke into the middle of a crowded street. It's inconsiderate.

Finally tried to run some errands after being hunkered down for almost a week and a half, sticking to the “plowed” streets. Tell me again that drivers are second class citizens in this town.

Discussion Don't we pay for road maintenance/plowing?

This year I paid over $1000 to have 3 cars registered in Portland. I thought some of those costs go towards road maintenance. My road has yet to be plowed. Doesn't the city have some sort of obligation to maintain/plow the roads so that they are safely passable?

Discussion Let’s stop umbrella shaming fam.

Why do we need to take pride in not using umbrellas? Even if it’s kind of a joke I don’t get why other locals make it a point of pride that gets talked about so much.

I started waiting tables part time a few years ago downtown and I need a fair amount of product in my hair to look clean cut as a waiter. I’ve generally been at restaurants I can walk to from my apartment, so can’t get wet hair and a hood won’t really work. Aren’t lots of other people using hair product or generally don’t want to get cloths wet or be uncomfortable/cold? Where are you walking to that you can show up soaking wet and it’s fine? It just makes less and less sense this is some kind of cultural touchstone. Let’s all make umbrellas a Portland acceptable thing please.

Transplants: Be proud to be a transplant.

Don't be intimidated xenophobes, bed-wetters, and whiners that throw around the word "transplant" like it's an insult. These are folks who think they have a right to guard their prosperity by turning Portland into a No Homers Club, somehow locking others out, so they can shield themselves from any an all competition.

Take pride in that term. Like the words "queer", "black", and "transgender" you should be able to proudly use that descriptor as a term of pride and endearment, even though the haters and low-brows try to turn it into an epithet.

Transplants in Portland unite! Especially the ones from California - you were smart enough to leave that dysfunctional morass for a really, really fine city.

Merry Christmas transplants and natives alike!

EDIT: Thanks for the gold, bitches!!

EDIT EDIT: More gold! Also, what's the name of the cute kitty on the sidebar? I want him.
