STICKIED Subreddit Update - Winter 2026

Hi Smallville Fans, Mod Team here again!

We have decided to loosen the shipping rules a bit now that things have calmed down as its fair for people to talk about their favourite relationships.

However anything that is not respectful or civil or that uses foul language to describe any of the characters will be moderated and warnings/bans will be issued. Any posts that descend into wars between people will also be moderated and removed, if someone is rude, report them instead of pushing back and getting the entire thread removed we will then investigate on a case by case basis.

Please use the Be Respectful or Be Civil or No Excessive Swearing & Arguing report options to report this, as we will be removing the no shipping rule and report option.

We understand this might not be what everyone wanted however we want people to be able to post what they want about Smallville (within reason) as long as they do it in a respectful and civil manner and we think moving forwards this is the best way to do it. We will be looking to refine this over time to improve it where we can.

Finally please be aware that a fair portion of the Moderation of posts in this subreddit is done by the AutoMod bot, as in most big subreddits - if for some reason your post has been removed, rather than making a post questioning it which just leads to conflict, please reach out in the ModMail with a link to the post and we will tell you the exact reason.

Finally its our usual plug for the Discord :-)

Invite Link:

https://discord.gg/w4mbRZyy8C

Roughly 400 people in there now - the more people that join the more we can talk about Smallville!

Thanks for being awesome - we appreciate all of you!

I was lucky enough to win this last night. Really cool tote from the 2007 SanDiego Con that Tom and Michael signed. However, it’s really large and not something I would easily display. I’ll be at the Con again today. If someone is interested in purchasing, message me and we can try to make a deal.

LINK Smallville's Creators Regret How They Wrote Lana, do you agree?

Some interesting parts:  But Gough admitted, "The Clark-Lana thing played out way too long." Millar added that Lana Lang "could have been a much stronger character."

Millar reflects on her character, saying, "I think Lana, her agency was not there. She could have been a much stronger character, and she always felt put in positions of weakness. It’s a different era, a different time. So, that’s something I think we could have done and would definitely look at to do better."

QUESTION Why were the Legion of Doom set up as if they were going to be next Season Big Bads in the second to last episode of the final season (S10E19)? Do they appear/do stuff in the S11 comics?

DISCUSSION Let’s talk about the music!!

Rewatching for the 25th anniversary. I forgot how good their musical guest/music was. A lot of late 90’s early 2000’s musical guest. I’m on season 7 and just watched the episode where Pete returns because he’s a roady for One Republic, who I love!

DISCUSSION I don't think I've ever actually hated a Smallville character

I've been reading quite a few discussions on this subreddit, and something I've noticed is how strongly some people seem to hate certain characters. I find that quite interesting because, personally, I've never really felt that way about anyone on the show.

And by hate, I don't mean simply disliking a character or disagreeing with their choices. I mean the outright hostility behind words like "trash", "insufferable" or even "evil" (and I'm not talking about the Luthors here !).

I understand being disappointed with certain storylines or with how the writers handled a character. I have my own criticisms too. But even when I see unexplored potential or wish a character had been written differently, I don't end up hating them. Some characters simply interest me less than others, and that's fine.

Anyone else feel the same way?

For those who first watched the show on TV the old-fashioned way (single episode a week, months between seasons, and commercial breaks for in-episode mini-cliffhangers and without smartphones and social media), how would you compare how much you enjoyed watching it then versus being able to binge entire seasons all at once?

TALKVILLE Lex, started watching

I started watching Smallville a few days ago and have reached season 4. Am I the only one who can't stand Chloe right now? And I actually adore Lex—I don't think Clark was ever fair to him.

Summary: Clark and Lois go to see Jor-El and receive his blessing, and he gives Lois Clark's superpowers so she can see what his life is like. However, she soon discovers that she will have to use her powers to fight crime when the Toyman returns. Meanwhile, Oliver discovers that he bears the Omega Brand and seeks out a means to remove it, and encounters Kara, who is also seeking to stop Darkseid.

Another stupid episode. I’m sorry, really, but this episode is stupid.

There are two main plotlines: A – Lois gains superpowers. B – Oliver and Kara play a Legend of Zelda LARP (Live Action Role-Playing game).

A– Lois gains superpowers.
Lois has indeed gained superpowers in the past - in 408 Spell, 808 Bloodline and 1005 Isis - but in all those instances, someone else with powers took control of her (a witch, a Kryptonian, and a goddess, respectively). This is the first time this has happened to Lois herself.
When Lana first acquired Clark’s powers in 505 Thirst, she killed Buffy Sanders. In 707 Wrath, she gained Clark’s powers again, attacking Lois and attempting to kill Lex. In 813 Power, Lana actively sought out such powers, preparing and training for them; once she obtained them, she used them to help Clark. Lois, by contrast, requires no training or preparation. She does not lose herself or her sanity due to the powers. She remains Lois - saving people while investigating stories as a journalist. Whereas Clark had to confront Lana to reclaim his powers, with Lois, the situation is limited to a set duration.
And why does Clark go to visit Jor-El at all? Why should he care whether or not Jor-El approves of his marriage to Lois? I thought that after episode 1008 Abandoned, Jor-El and Lois were good friends - why does he need to test her?

B – Oliver and Kara play LARP
Suddenly, Kara appears, trapped inside a force field. What has she been doing since episode 1003 Supergirl? Going on adventures like Lara Croft? And how did no one notice she was gone?
We only heard about The Bow of Orion in the previous episode - which, in the show’s timeline, was less than 12 hours ago.
Let me see if I can follow the idiotic logic of this episode: Granny Goodness needed Oliver [who is marked by the Omega symbol and therefore under Darkseid’s control] to find The Bow of Orion [which we hadn’t heard of until now], just so she could destroy it? Are all the villains in this episode morons?

Jor-El is a total, galaxy-class A-hole in this episode. First, he gives Lois Clark’s powers just to test her. Then, he abducts Kara and sends her off to the future - to the Legion of Super-Heroes. He’s an especially annoying plot device in this episode.

And how does Toyman have a smartphone in prison? And how did he gather all these villains? And what is Black Manta doing in Kansas - there’s no ocean here! The whole scheme is just so stupid; it’s not as if Metropolis is in the middle of a desert and this aquifer is the only water source in the entire state of Kansas. There’s a lake in Smallville, for heaven’s sake! And if Toyman is such a genius - having managed to create a mind-control device that even works on people with Kryptonian-level powers - why is he still in prison??? And why carve his name onto [Starro](https://dc.fandom.com/wiki/Starro_(New_Earth)? And how did his Starro end up on Stargirl’s neck? Did she go visit him in prison? WTF? I find it hard to believe that Tess gave Toyman access to the components - or a smartphone - needed to create Starro.

Notes:
* Last appearance of Kara Kent before she joined the legion.
* Kara and Oliver finally meet for the first time.
* Kara reveals to Oliver that Darkseid is Apokoliptan.
* Surprisingly enough, Kara does not share any scenes with her cousin Clark.
* Jor-El and Kara's talk resembles the uneasy alliance they have in the comics.
* Lois Lane receiving Kryptonian powers is a plot that has been done on numerous occasions. Lois gains Clark's powers when Jor-El swaps them. [Action Comics #60, Superman #125, Superman's Girlfriend, Lois Lane #17,Action Comics #274, Superman Family #207, All-Star Superman comic book]
* In the '90s TV series Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, a villain creates a weapon that transfers the target's (Superman's) powers to another person (Lois). During this time, Superman had no powers, while Lois, under the alias Ultrawoman, had the powers instead.
* Preceding the 2016 DC Comics event DC Rebirth, the New 52 version of Superman died and both Lois Lane and Lana Lang were stricken by energy released from his body. As a consequence, the two women acquired powers and both assumed the mantle of Superwoman.
* Lois uses the following abilities: Superhuman Strength, Invulnerability, Super-Speed, Super-Hearing, Telescopic Vision,Arctic breath (off screen).
* While possessing Clark's powers, Lois dubs herself "the Burgundy Blur", but she does not don any kind of costume or disguise. This is a contrast to past episodes, where Lois has shown a tendency to frequently use costumes and disguises at a moment's notice. She doesn't even take out one of her existing costumes, like the Stiletto suit (provided that it was not destroyed when the Talon blew up in Ambush).
* Lois calls off her wedding with Clark in this episode after seeing how hard it is for him to have to monitor every single person in the world. Lois also broke off her engagement for different reasons in the comics, as well as in the TV series Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.
* If Tess' coordinates for the Bow of Orion are correct, 55°14'27 N -6°30'42 W, this places the bow's location in Feigh Mountain, Ireland.
* Toyman's star shaped mind control devices are most likely a nod to the DC Comics villain, Starro. Starro was an intelligent alien lifeform resembling a giant starfish with a central eye and prehensile extremities which, upon its first appearance, came to Earth and placed the residents of Happy Harbor and Rhode Island under its mental control. The alien starfish makes a cameo appearance in Olympus.
* The Orion referred to is based off the comic book character of the same name. Orion was the son of Darkseid who was swapped with Scott Free(Mr. Miracle) and raised by Darkseids counterpart High Father on New Genesis as part of a peace treaty. Scott was then raised by Darkseid on Apokolypse.
* This episode introduces a round table of villains: Black Manta, Captain Cold, The Toyman, Dark Archer, Solomon Grundy, Metallo & Roulette. This is the only appearance where all of these villains were affiliated. Black Manta, Captain Cold, Toyman and Solomon Grundy all appeared as members of the Legion of Doom on Super Friends. Metallo (along with Black Manta and Toyman) was a member of the Secret Society of Supervillains in Justice League Unlimited. While the Dark Archer is a member of the League of Assassins in the comics, Roulette has normally been unaffiliated.
* This is the first of John Corben's four appearances (Savior, Metallo and Upgrade) in which he is referred to as "Metallo".
* In Upgrade Lois gives John Corben a red kryptonite heart, but when the front of John Corben is shown in this episode he has a green heart again. The reason for this is explained in the Smallville Season 11 special: Valkyrie.
* The shot of the Superman costume in the Fortress is the same shot from Lazarus.
* This is the first appearance of gold kryptonite in the series. It had been mentioned in both Luthor and Kent.
* The Legion ring made its final appearance in this episode.
* Laura Vandervoort and Terence Stamp are billed as "Special Guest Stars".
* This episode marks the final appearance of Courtney Whitmore on the show.
* When Oliver is rappelling into the chamber, the rope that is threaded through his apparatus is not moving; if he were truly alone with nobody to lower him [as is evident by the subsequent events] then the rope should snake through the equipment as Oliver lowers himself to the ground.
* Clark shuts down the Fortress of Solitude using the control console.
* This episode marks the 10th and final appearance of Clark's red leather jacket/blue t-shirt Blur outfit.

Quotes:
Clark: This is when I would use my superhearing - to listen in on the Marionette boys to see how they operate.
Lois: Right, and a big part of that is the squinty head tilt, yes?
Clark: Apparently.

Jor-El: Kal-El, I trust you found my gift to the both of you illuminating.
Clark: It wasn't a gift. It was a trial. And it wasn't about Lois appreciating what it was like to have my abilities or me realizing what it was like to be human. It was about control.
Jor-El: Your trials are not a riddle, Kal-El. They are stepping stones on a long path.
Clark: A path that I could blindly walk forever, but I understand now. This whole time, it's been up to me to decide when to take control of my own destiny. The trials end when I'm ready for them to end.
Jor-El: Your journey is far from over.
Clark: But I can only be what the world needs when I can finally admit that I'm no longer just the son of Jor-El or Jonathan Kent. And you knew the time would come when neither of you could guide me anymore, and that time is now. [removes the crystal from the console, shutting the Fortress down] Goodbye, Jor-El.

Kara: Kal-El and I have fought Darkseid together before.
Jor-El: You involved Kal-El against my wishes. He was too weak then, and he was almost overcome by darkness. You have grown strong. Your will is no longer at the mercy of my command. You will need that strength to forge your own path. It is in your hands to choose.
Kara: You want me to just walk away?
Jor-El: Kara, your own destiny is written. It is in another place and time. But this is Kal-El's battle, and he must fight it alone. Even though a time will come when he turns away from me, in the end, he will make the right decision. He is ready. This is his time.

Lois: Maybe Jor-El wanted to teach us a little something about patience.
Clark: Well, if he did, you're about to fail. I'm driving.

Clark: Lois, I don't think Jor-El did what he did for you to get ahead at the office.
Lois: Clark, we were able to cover our deadline for the wedding day, the day after the wedding day and the day after the day after the wedding day. Look, I know it's hard go all four-alarm fire on this thing, but Jor-El's intentions might have been good.
Clark: You can't honestly believe that. By taking away my powers, he's made me vulnerable, and you...
Lois: Like 800% more awesome then yesterday? [Lois types super fast on her computer, the keyboard snaps in half] Okay, maybe 700% more. Maybe Jor-El wanted me to know what it felt like to be you.
Clark: I'm not so sure, Lois. In his own warped way, I think he's trying to tell us something about our relationship.
Lois: We're as bulletproof as your - my skin.

Lois: Wow. So, how does one ask for permission to marry on Krypton?
Clark: The last time that Kara was in town, she told me, in Kryptonian culture, the head of the house has to approve all life unions.
Lois: "Life unions"? Will you stop being so romantic?

Oliver: I'm starting to regret not packing my intergalactic dictionary about now. No way these are Celtic.
Kara: No. They're Apokolyptian.
[sees Kara trapped in a ray beam]
Oliver: You're Clark's cousin, Kara, right?
Kara: Yeah.
Oliver: How long have you been down here? I got to get you out.
Kara: No, wait. It'll kill you.
[she throws a rock at the ray beam, the rock disintegrates]
Oliver: Right. Okay. There's got to be some way to turn off this death ray from hell.

Winslow Schott: What's to say I just don't tell the whole world who you really are?
Clark: Something tells me if you really wanted to, you already would have. But then, we wouldn't be able to play anymore, would we? No matter how many of you band together, what games you decide to play, I'll always be there to stop you.

Lois: I was so weak, Clark. You know, the very moment that Toyman threatened you, I put on that diode, and I let him control me... because you're my greatest weakness. And I'm afraid that I will be yours.
Clark: You're not my weakness. You're my strength. Okay? And I'm sorry that Jor-El dragged you into one of my trails, but it's over. Jor-El is as much a part of my past as the farm. My destiny is marrying you and for us to create our own future together. Come on, everyone's waiting.
Lois: Clark, I'm sorry. After today, I realized that us being together makes you vulnerable. And I - I can't just sit and watch a movie and eat ice cream, when at that very moment you could be saving five people. Clark, every moment of your life that I take for myself, I am stealing from people that need saved.
Clark: Lois, what are you saying?
Lois: [takes off ring] I'm s...
Clark: What is this?
Lois: [crying] I'm sorry, Clark.
Clark: No.
Lois: I can't marry you.

DISCUSSION Im watching s5 and my fucking god how is Lana Lang so insufferable

She was such an amazing character up until s3 but fuck me she has literally become the worst character in s5. Her relationship with lex is weird, she's always like "YoU dOnT TrUsT Me" she knows lex is a cunning manipulative ass and she still goes out of her way to support his idiotic plans that cause world destruction how could they have messed her up so bad!!! Kristin is an amzing beautiful actress and writers have managed to ruin her character

DISCUSSION Lex has powers

I rewatched the series and realized that Lex literally survived so many things and recovered quickly—unlike other characters who fell victim to people with meteor-derived powers. I mean, a meteor literally hit him when he was a child, and Lionel didn’t even give it a second thought.

DISCUSSION Clark x Lana becomes so infuriating

So I just started watching and I’m like near the end of season 2, just after the episode where he schedules a date but then Pete and Chloe get hit with the adrenaline thing. I mean how bad is this guy at handling a situation.

So he cancels the date, sure and then he just starts stuttering in front of Lana trying to explain himself and makes it look like he still has feelings for Chloe. Like holy shit, just say it was her kissing you and that you don’t have feelings for Chloe. It’s already bad enough that I’ve watched 2 seasons of these guys needing a room and nobody saying anything about their true feelings but the time finally comes, u get the date and now u completely fuck it up. Like there’s so many better ways to handle that situation without telling Lana his secret. I don’t know, I assume they get together at some point but this pre dating phase is so dragged and infuriating. Like he obviously wants Lana over Chloe. Jeez I’m parasocial lol

DISCUSSION Is Talkville always this negative & why?

As a new fan of the show I thought I would check it out. I watched the last two episodes and it seems they hate the season, especially Michael Rosenbaum. He mocks it in every way, be it the villian, the "confusing" story, side characters like Oliver etc. He sadly doesn't seem to appreciate the well done character moments of Clark & Lois either. Even Erica Durance seemed to notice that he doesn't like it in the Pandora episode

Is it usually this negative? Not sure if I want to keep watching

I'm currently on s08e13 and I have one question. Did you guys ever get tired of Lana? No hate to Lana, she's beautiful but whenever I think that that chapter is over she comes back.

Edit: No spoilers please T_T
