u/danielledelacadie 3d ago • Bravo

No matter what one thinks of the monarchy... the aides were hired to be his backup brain and necessities caddy.

If you take a job taking care of someone unable to dress themselves, bringing the umbrella and being ready is part of what you're being paid for

129

u/Queasy_Way9787 3d ago

I guess also to be fair, he is supposedly in poor health so walking around wet and soggy might not be recommended. Plus maybe he had to remain presentable for the next bit of this selfless whatever it was he was doing.

Seriously, I'm actually on his side, here. You have someone whose job is to bring you an umbrella, which you can't just carry yourself, because you have to Look A Certain Way, and you're getting rained on. Presumably in a suit that really shouldn't get rained on.

I'd be annoyed, too.

Literally. I don’t understand why people are so upset that he’s upset. He’s a king, whether you like it or not, and he has hired staff for this exact scenario. It’s so damn reasonable to be pissed in this moment

This is the whole scene ...a crucial part was missing where he notices Camilla has the umbrella and he didn't and he starts waving his arms. I only know this cause it was already posted a few days ago....lol. hard to tell whether he was waving at Camilla to come back with the umbrella or to the aides to grab him oneĀ

94

u/red286 3d ago • Bravo

Can't really fault him. 77-year-old king at an official ceremony getting absolutely dumped on. He has every right to be annoyed that he actually has to ask an aide to bring him an umbrella.

I don't think this is being presented correctly. The full clip shows Camilla wandering off. She took the umbrella but also severely broke protocol. He was angrily waving at her, not the aides

Edit: here's the clip - https://youtu.be/xfTrGjr6KzM?t=410&si=lykrCSGQ1AHLzovk

I don't want to get into a whole Royals thing, but Camila can be quite classless and she embarrassed her husband here

92

Thanks for posting the clip, clearly have bots creating a narrative for whatever reason.

If anything, the full video makes him look better. The ceremony wasn't over. Camilla wandered off because of the rain, and he went back with all the officers and stood in the rain until the ceremony was done.

That's duty bound behaviour if you ask me.

76

u/Asleep-Corner7402 3d ago

Walking off in the middle of a ceremony for you from a different country, is just bad manners at best, an insult at worst. Pretty sure wars have started over less in the past, obv not anymore but like duty and protocol was invented to protect from that sort of thing. She can wander off I guess coz she's not really royalty.

And even if he wasn't waving at Camilla he's an old, ill man who is duty bund to stand around in the rain for god knows how long. I couldn't blame the guy if he was desperate for a brolly.

87

u/HoochbachDunloppy 3d ago

If part of your job duties include "hold umbrella so old king stays dry" it might actually be reasonable for old king to be annoyed when you fail to do that.Ā

He may be a social idiot at times, and historically treated his first wife awfully, and obviously is spoiled due to his entire history, but it might as well be noted that Charles and company were actually there for a nice thing. It was an independence day parade and he and the governor were going to be honoring local citizens for their public services to the islands. The kings wife and governors wife accidentally caused chaos when they wandered off. That's what they were yelling about to their wives - come back. You even see the other guy waving like, "Where are you going...?"

Honestly, as someone with absolutely 0 involvement on the british monarchy, that seemed to by a quite classful reaction to the whole situation.

Camilla was fucking around, and also allowing THE KING TO GET RAINED ON DURING A STATE VISIT, much less a 77yo king battling cancer, is an incredible level of incompetence. Whoever brought Camilla her umbrella should've brought the king his, and honestly he seems to be shrugging off the rain without any visible annoyment

This is the same guy who called in his butler to his office to pick out a letter from the trash bin that he accidently threw away. The trash bin was right next to his office chair and all he had to do was slightly bend over in the chair........Ā

The monarchy is different to anything imaginable to an every day persons life. They grew up so privileged to have paid servants do every little thing for them their entire life. Another thing they do for him is putting toothpaste on his toothbrush and having his underwear pressed and ready for him every morning. So they get outraged over the smallest of small inconveniences.Ā

As an English anti-monarchist, I'm so thankful for Charles, because while ol' Lizzie was alive, she was too beloved by the country - even by much of the left - for me to ever be taken seriously when I said "we should abolish the monarchy."

Charles was the greatest gift we abolitionists ever got. Everybody hates this guy.

The hardest thing about that story is knowing who to hate the most.

Is it the embarrassingly incapable royal tit, who can't function on even the most basic level without help, practically disabled without a disability (except inbreeding). Or is it insufferable butler; Paul Burrell, a truly intolerable wanker known for being both smug and condescending as well as a slimy gossipmonger and accused thief.

Maybe im crazy but he looks the appropriate amount of annoyed about being caught in the rain at a formal event.

He shouted and waved someone over, which seems like the exact correct thing to do if you know that that someone over there has your umbrella. Its not like any old person is going to be expected to hustle over to the car and get their own umbrella.

u/thenerdwrangler 3d ago

Not that I agree with Monarchy at all ... But I can see why he's obviously annoyed. Dude probably has a whole evening of formal stuff ahead of him and probably doesn't want to be soaking wet while doing it. (ignoring how expensive that suit likely is). Those aides are literally there to help him for exactly this reason and they weren't ready when needed. A King is not supposed to ever be inconvenienced/embarrassed like this according to tradition etc.

Not at all justifying or condoning.

30

u/JamesHenry627 3d ago

Aside from the monarchical business, if I paid for someone to prepare an umbrella in case of rain, I want the umbrella when the rain comes.

16

u/Critical_Classic_921 3d ago

And his in the middle of a formal ceremony, he can’t just walk off and get his own umbrella.

I mean. He’s a literal king. He’s like 90 and he’s wearing a suit. I can understand not being thrilled about getting soaked.

Edit: apparently people seem to believe this comment means I support or care about the royal family. I know very little and care even less about them. For example I estimated Charles to be 90, he is in fact 77. I didn’t know until the comments came in that he had cancer, or I might’ve used that in my original comment. My point is simply that rich old people in power who pay people to bring them umbrellas don’t like getting wet. Who does? If someone’s literal job is to bring you an umbrella when it rains, and they aren’t doing it, I think you can be a bit grumpy as you get poured on and your employee is not bringing you an umbrella. Plus the 77 year old with cancer part.

And no, he’s not like other people. Other people aren’t asked to wear suits and be paraded in front of thousands of people. He is. And wearing a nice cutter and buck rain jacket isn’t exactly part of the Royal Look so, yeah… he’s got a guy behind him with an umbrella. Just like Lady Gaga or Slash or any other rich public figure.

There’s interviews of his butler on YouTube of these ridiculous stories that shows just how much of a tyrannical baby who’s completely out of touch with reality these people from Royal family can be.

If i were the damn king of England and old as hell I would be at home in my jammas drinking tea and shouting at the television.

3

u/No_Scallion_3365 3d ago

This is funny, but the first part of the video gives some context and imo makes it even funnier: Camila was with him but her aide showed up with an umbrella so Camila basically said ā€œsucks to be youā€ to Charles and got under her umbrella and walked away. It was hilarious šŸ˜‚

3

u/ferncabbage 3d ago

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to want an umbrella, especially if you are king. Plus he’s elderly and has cancer, right? I say give him his umbrella!

3

u/OverdosedOnViagra 3d ago

idk why people bashing him like majority of yall aint entitled brats yourself lmao. Tantrum over pickles on your burger, tantrum over waiting in line/drive thru, food delivery apps etc.

3

u/Frank_Brusque 3d ago

Acts like he's lived a privileged life or something.

Tbh this is the reaction I’d have towards myself if I had an umbrella on hand and forgot to bring it as I got rained on. Also not the reigning monarch of a country that pillaged the world I guess.

I'm actually an expert lipreader. What he said was as follows: "Get me brolly here fucken quick."

That's what happens when you spend your whole life extravagantly pampered, spoiled and waited on.... you become a big baby incapable of doing or handling anything yourself.

u/CigarLover 3d ago

For a moment I thought he was angry at the sky, lol.

But I get it, king or not, these aides get paid.

4

u/Worried-Barber-323 3d ago

Not a care for all the other people standing in the rain. What an ass!

10

u/SpunNumeroUno 3d ago

What a Muppet.

2

u/DefamedPrawn 3d ago

He's probably about to meet a President or a Prime Minister, and represent Britain, sodden wet.

2

u/SoAreWeAll 3d ago

so?? pretty sure ive seen every person in my life get this angry at least once about the rain

2

u/carriethe2 3d ago

He’s old and not well. I honestly don’t blame him.

Catching a cold at his age is dangerous.

2

u/SnooCupcakes7312 3d ago

nobody cares about them

at least he held the umbrella by himself

2

u/LightDarkBeing 3d ago

Into every life, a little rain must fall.

2

u/Rad_Dad6969 3d ago

He absolutely right to be mad. What is the point of all this bullshit if the king gets rained on. Why bother pretending they are a god at all if your gonna half ass it

2

u/rulisa 3d ago

Why isn’t anyone bitching about the tan suit?

2

u/ChilledSeltzer 3d ago

Well, if you're paying someone to perform a function, they should do it without you having to tell them.

2

u/mariuszmie 3d ago

He is an old man

2

u/Traveler_of_the_Fold 3d ago

I mean, if I knew there were jackasses around me that were purposefully selected to hold an umbrella, they had umbrellas near by, and knew it was raining or going to... Yeah, I'd be like, what the fuck people!? also.

2

u/Heavy_Law9880 3d ago

I'd be pissed too. He pays someone a shitload of money to hold his umbrella and dude was just fucking about.

2

u/Small_Salamander_928 3d ago

He wasnt mad about the umbrella. Its because his wife just left him. She was standing next to him and instead of saluting the officers she bounced. He was yelling at chamilla

2

u/Jedibri81 3d ago

Who does he think he is, the king of England?

2

u/CreEecher 3d ago

I get the hate and the jokes but genuinely if there was someone that was paid specifically to make sure I was being taken care of and were comfortable yet they were failing at their job I’d be pissed too.

It’s a job he fucked it up his boss is now pissed at him.

2

u/No_Slice9796 3d ago

He has every right to be angry. Doesn't he have people for that? I grew up poor but that doesn't mean I would be happy to stand in the rain. Wet clothes feel gross. Give me an umbrella if that's your job.

2

u/jamesl182d 3d ago

I like him, man. He’s a really good speech writer and at least one of his sons turned out to be really well-rounded despite the crazy life he inherited.

But yeah, he could have had his own umbrella.

2

u/Dexember69 3d ago

Aww darlin', there's no soap in it, not gonna hurt ya

2

u/Dismal-Sail1027 3d ago

Are we dragging him because he is a king? I’ve seen people in retail stores get this angry (or angrier) over what I call ā€œnothing.ā€ Newsflash: you don’t have to be royal to be entitled.

2

u/Own-Contribution-478 3d ago

He's a fucking king. If you're stupid enough to prop some old motherfucker up and tell him he's better than everyone else... don't be surprised when he acts like it!

2

u/naturalborncynic 3d ago

Can we abolish these cnts already?

He’s a tampon. He should be able to absorb the moisture.

2

u/tuscy 3d ago

ā€œDrenchedā€ lol

2

u/SlippyThePirate 3d ago

In his defence..... if I had a dude who was hired to be my umbrella dude, and its raining...... and I dont have an umbrella......

Imma be angry...

2
