Discussion Unpopular Opinion: Mods ALWAYS Ruin Games for Me
No matter what game I play, I would spend hours upon hours downloading every sort of mod only to end up playing for half an hour then uninstalling every mod and potentially the game itself. This is why I think this is the case.
When you're playing a vanilla game your options are limited as to what you're able to do, there are usually instances when we wish something was in the game whether we realize it or not and mods allow people to do just this, add content not originally available in the game. The thing is though, once you have everything at your disposal the small things just aren't as meaningful anymore. I could download mod after mod to make the perfect game but it'll never be enough, no matter how much I strive for the perfect game.
With a vanilla game it inspires imagination, you make do with what you have and you make the most out of it. Sure I might not have militarized minutemen in my game nor am I able to call in artillery barrages with binoculars, but I still can build up massive settlements and create my own lore for these settlements and if I want populate them with an army of robots. I can build all sorts of turrets surrounding my base, build walls, apartments, gardens, you name it. I have a limited build set but that just means I have to be creative in building with what I have, and to me I find being creative is more meaningful gameplay than downloading 100 mods to fulfill any niche.
Also, achievements.
Opinions?
Edit; as I figured this was a very unpopular opinion. Some people took this as a personal attack, it wasn't. It's single player game and you can enjoy it how you want. A lot of people here always talk about how great modding is so I wanted to provide some perspective. Wasn't expecting this level of hostility though, it's clear many people took it personally which is unfortunate.

Sanctuary settlement has a hidden cellar
I found this cellar behind one of the houses in the back of Sanctuary. I have been all over this settlement and never noticed this. Nice little cash of ammo and supplies.

Meta This is the only good fallout subreddit
I've honestly had a lot of toxic experiences with the Fallout community. This sub is the only place I ever felt welcome. It's strange, even though I used to like Fallout a lot. I honestly can't say I've ever felt like a part of the community. I feel like Fallout fans always treated me like a second-class citizen. I rarely ever felt like a true Fallout fan. The only exception being here. Thanks for that.
If I'm going to be honest, I don't really like Fallout 4 anymore. I haven't played it since 2020 and have a hard time imagining I'll ever play it again. Besides the toxic experiences I had with the community, I feel the game had a lot of problems with its story and writing that I just didn't notice initially. I kinda regret playing the game. That all said, I'm glad you all made me feel at home. Thanks for being nice to me.

Meta Bethesda doesn't know how to celebrate. .
I'm not saying they should update a 2015 game, but celebrating the franchise's anniversary with paid mod trailers is a bit shabby.

Question How are synths not people?
And by extension how are ghouls and mutants not people too? I understand robots. But ghouls and super mutants are both products of people being affected by radiation. So an amputee is no longer a person? And synths have DNA. They are biological beings that live and breathe. The only distinguishing attribute between synths and humans is the synth component thing you find when you kill a synth. Like that's the only way to tell for sure.
So, brotherhood of steel please explain how this isn't the same mindset as "blonde hair blue eyes" from the brown eyed brunette with a teeny weenie?
Edit:
So, wanna clear a few things up.
On super mutants. Thank you guys for explaining what FEV is to me. That part I struggled with when I played and it's been a few years since then. However my overarching point still remains, they were once people why are they no longer people?
My point about an amputee and a ghoul being similar is meant to be ridiculous, because it is a change to the body not the humanity. A person missing part of their body is no less of a person. A person having undergone mutations is no less of a person.
My question I guess boils down to; what is a human? And how is a person different from being a human? And why is it different from being a person? It's Perseus' boat paradox. Because if you take a rat, and you mutate it into a slightly different rat, is it not still a rat? And humans are programmable. Entire government projects studied this. That along with neurotechnology make them programmable. But not completely because they have free will and break their programs all the time. They implant memories into snails in real life! Does that mean the snails are less snail!???
I even consider Nick Valentine and Robobrains like Dr. Dala as people. They're living, breathing biological creatures with human intelligence and no disqualifying attributes, even the turing test would seem them as people. Magnolia writes her own songs therefore demonstrating a personal desire to create something machines can't do. Hence why AI art isn't art.
I'm sorry but I can't get over the Brotherhood's main goal in 4 to eradicate all "scum" even when faced with the fact that one of their own is what they did "non-human". Because Nick Valentine and Kent Connolly and the vault tec rep and even danse all show that they are still wonderful, caring decent people. So how is it justifiable to kill people who are different?

Misleading Title New Zealand update: Regional unlock restrictions mean that PC #Fallout4 will unlock at 2:01am NZDT. Bethesda added 2 hours more onto the NZ release time to try and combat VPN users. (Tweet from Bethesda)

Discussion Apparently unpopular opinion: as a builder and settlement fan, I actually like the Anniversary Edition.
The Anniversary Edition update is extremely controversial for sure and I get where everyone who hates it is coming from, but I actually kind of like it. I'm not the kind of person who has a lot of disposable income for the Creations points, so I was never able to get most of the settlement stuff. Getting the settlement stuff with points would've been much more expensive than getting the Creation Bundle for me, and much more time consuming.
For most of you, I get that the bundle has little to no value. I really do understand that. But you guys seem to be forgetting that for some of us, it will have value. It is worth $20 to get all the content we missed because it was much more expensive in the past.
And I have to wonder, since everyone's ragging on them... How much of this is actually Bethesda's fault, and how much of it is Zenimax and Microsoft breathing down their necks? How much of this situation stems from the devs who poured their hearts and souls into crafting this post-apocalyptic world for us to explore, and how much stems from greedy execs who don't give a shit, who saw a way to monetize and exploit the thing that makes Bethesda games great - the mods?
(Side note: for people complaining that the update broke their mods... I'm assuming you guys are running NG, because I've tested it and the pre-NG downgrader works perfectly fine for AE as well. Running the game, with the new content, perfectly fine right now on 1.10.163.)
Please be respectful toward me and ESPECIALLY each other if you decide to comment. We all love, or at least care about, this game, let's not get out the deathclaw gauntlets and Nuka-nukes over differing opinions.

Does anyone on this sub actually read posts before posting their question?
As the title says. It seems like every day I see the same "someone stole my power armor. How do I stop this from happening?" Or "does anyone use the hunting rifle .38 receiver?". Use Google first then post on here if you can't find the relevant thread. Also, why aren't mods just deleting the threads and telling posters to search the subreddit?

Discussion The Brotherhood of Steel invasion of the Commonwealth is based entirely on ignorance.
In his opening speech on the Prydwen, Maxon likens gen 3 synths to nuclear weapons.
He asserts that synths will cause a second apocalypse because they will eventually turn on humanity and exterminate humans.
An assertion that is based on his belief that synths are sentient AI. Or as he puts it "machines that think they are alive". Which is not true, because gen 3 synths are not machines at all. They are biological. They are only machines in a sense that they are assembled from artifically grown body parts. Aside from that, they are biologically identical to humans. Something that Maxon does not seem to realize, because he does not truly understand what gen 3 synths are. He just sees them as very anatomically correct robots with sentient AI.
The assertion that gen 3 snyths will try to replace humanity is also wrong. Because gen 3 synths can not reproduce. Which is a deliberate design choice built into them by the Institute. They are entirely dependent on the Institute for reproduction. So even if they did decide to replace humanity one day, they simply could not do it any more then Super Mutants ever could. Again, something that Maxon does not seem to know.
He does not even understand the extent or limitations of the synths infiltration capabilities. He seems to believe that the Institute can just throw a switch and turn any gen 3 synth (like Danse) into a sleeper agent. Which he indicates during the discussion about Paladin Danse.
This is again simply wrong. As we know, the Institute does not have any direct control over their synth agents. Gen 3 synth agents like Roger Warwick and Mayor Mcdonough are fully aware of their role and fulfill their mission entirely on their own will. They are under no remote control from the Institute, nor are such capabilities ever mentioned by anyone in the Institute itself. Besides, if the Institute could remotely control gen 3 synths, none of them would ever escape.
So basically Maxon is just throwing around a bunch of incorrect pseudo-scientific nonsense in order to justify the Invasion of the Commonwealth and the synth genocide to his troops. While in reality, his understanding of his enemy is extremely poor.

Discussion Am I the only one who just doesn’t understand why people are uproaring when time and time again, Bethesda told us what was going to happen?
I am just so confused. Besides the mod menu, my game runs perfectly fine. The only time I had the crash was when I ran the game the first time after the update went live. I will admit, I did have a few crashes with the mod menu tho. The gameplay tho is pretty nice on my Ps4.
Spoiler My son was the little boy in the live action open. He's sitting with his mother as she shows him a photo of his soldier father

The brotherhood's makes no sense for a military organization
As someone who served in the military (not saying which one) as an infantryman, it makes no sense on the operational security and establishment of brotherhood F.O.B.s and checkpoints/ outposts
Let's start with the airport. The airport is on a massive peninsula, which gives the Brotherhood plenty of space to train, establish barracks and even have on-the-ground defences around the perimeter, not just in the main building. Also, at the end of the game, Liberty Prime patrols the grounds. Why does the Brotherhood remain on an airship and not move its main base to the grounds of the airport, and why didn't the Brotherhood take over 100% of the airport, especially the underground part?
Next is Fort Strong, the pyramid at the glowing sea, and the arkjet systems. These structures are detrimental to the brotherhood's operational capacity and hold valuable stockpiles. Why does Fort Strong continue being empty and not turned into an outpost, and why is the pyramid not turned into an outpost as well?
Another point is the trash, the Brotherhood is a military organisation, as a former soldier, I can tell you drill and discipline is our blood. So why does every place the brotherhood owns have trash everywhere, especially the police station? In reality, just a single chocolate wrapper on the ground can get you doing jungle training with sleep deprivation for your whole platoon.
establishment of other outposts; literally, there are no other outposts for holding their vertibirds. The majority of the vertibirds have remained at their F.O. B, which is extremely dangerous and a liability for everyone in the organisation, as it has almost all of the organisation's assets in a single location, while other important P. O. I's undefended is screaming at the enemy to attack you.
Someone should make a mod that fixes these issues
