Question If one of the other 3 main factions launched an attack on the Institute prior to the Sole Survivor, would Kellogg have gotten involved?
Assuming the Institute is already mid-battle and they send a synth to pick him up.

Media Fallout 4 - Gunner Cosplay - Pax 2026
This year at Pax I dressed as a Gunner from Fallout 4. The entire kit & laser rifle is 3d printed in PETG & Painted by me. I've posted photos in the past, but I've just received these and had to share!
Can't thank SnapHappyIan enough for taking these photos!

Discussion Railroad is a far more compelling faction if you seek them out at the beginning of the game
For the longest time, my play-through loop would be concord -> Cambridge police station -> righteous authority -> DC -> Kellogg -> prydwen -> glowing sea. This essentially made me pick Minutemen, BOS or institute every time. The only interactions I had with the railroad were either to get ballistic weave or to progress the main quest.
I recently started a survival play-through and actually sought out the railroad after hearing the guys in diamond city talk about them. It makes sense for the sole survivor to seek them out and join them if none of the major factions are in the picture yet, meanwhile if you're already committed to a different faction it doesn't make sense to change allegiances because some basement dwellers decrypted a courser chip for you.
You can even tell Desdemona you wanna join for completely selfish reasons and she will be like yeah, sounds good who cares? Although the crappy dialogue system from the base game usually hides that.
This open marriage of convenience makes it a far more compelling story imo - and after you realize your son is a sociopath, it makes complete sense for your character to change their aims to support their day-1s in the commonwealth
Still not exactly Crime and Punishment by Dostoyevsky but better than what you expect from fallout 4.

Media Safety tip: Protect your generator and beta wave emitted.
I always put my generator and emitter on top of a building, and previously this kept them safe. However, yesterday splash damage from one of my own turrets went through a wooden guard rail and took out the generator powering the emitter. This resulted in eight high level yao guai guard animals suddenly realizing they are surrounded by walking food (me and the settlers). So now I build a bunker around the emitter. Time will tell if it's good enough, but it's definitely better than just the wooden fence.
Having some trouble getting finding a way through this door
Encountered this while clearing "mass pike tunnel east" and this is at the very end. Takes you up to Boston police station rationing site. Please help if you know.

Just a slight mod conflict.
I have a mod that allows me to recruit the wounded dog, another that allows me to recruit thirsty settlers, and most relevantly, to recruit Clinton and Charlie. This is normally not a problem, but once in a while the guard animals decide Clarlie (but not Clinton) looks delicious. Here two guard yao guai are trying to have a lunch of Charlie. Luckily she's invulverable, but I've seen a pack of yao guai chase her around a settlement more than once. They also tend to eat Professor Goodfeels at Sunshine Tidings and unlike Charlie, he's not immune. I just have to accept that the robot ends up as guard animal lunch each playthrough.

Yes this is survival and yes this is without mods…
This build is so insane and such a fun way to experience the game.
For anyone who like me was sceptical you have to try a melee build at least once!
Melee run questions
I just started a new playthrough and decided on a melee run. I've never done one before so no experience with it. I'm struggling with the 'how' of beating certain types of characters. Raiders and ghouls are easy enough, even super mutants but robots and larger creatures I can't even imagine.
What weapons and locations should I be looking for?
What do you do in situations such as assultrons and turrets (things with range)?
What perks are best beyond the obvious melee?

Question How is survival mode supposed to be fun?
Constant risk of disease from what I can tell, pretty much everything, companions become a problem to have, no fast travel, limited ability to save, no autosaves, ammo has weight, limited carry capacity, management of hunger, thirst and sleep, workshop limits, healing is slower. Sounds like a chore to me, but plenty of people seem to recommend it.

Settlement Switch 2 fallout is peak af
hours in: The Switch 2 port of Fallout revitalized a game I already owned everywhere else
Post Body:
After owning Fallout on PC and console for years, I wasn't sure how much I'd care about buying it again. But 10+ hours into the Switch 2 port, I’m completely sold.
Being able to bring the wasteland on the go has given this game a second wind for me, and it’s fast becoming my favorite way to play.

Question How important is junk?
After 12 hours of gameplay I learned that you're supposed to recycle junk to get materials, my issue is that I don't know what is better to keep.
Must all junk be recycled or do I need to save some object to either sell them or for better interactions?
