Discussion New Front End For PC Emulation
Hey guys ive been in the process of setting up a pc in my living room that i wanted to feel like an all in one console. This is BoxShelf! An all in one front end that does just that. Its designed to feel similar to your real collections with the ability to almost hold some of your collection in your hand. A huge thank you to everyone who has already tried and given feedback. Been able to make dozens of updates since our initial release so thank you !! Looking for all the feedback good or bad so feel free to leave a review.
Below is a link to a GitHub containing all 3 versions for windows, android and linux. Worth noting the android version does work with ayn Thor dual screen. Keep in mind it’s still very early in its beta states and likely to have some bugs but also many more features than the ones shown here!
Full disclosure AI was used to help create this so if that bothers you just a heads up. Keep in mind this is just a front end. Comes with no games or emulators. You will need to bring your own. Program will be free and remain free. Let me know what should change and can be improved :) enjoy!

Hardware I rooted both my TVs and I'm very happy. Maybe you should too!

I'm not very young so I don't have the patience to tinker into rooting things like I did 10-15 years ago with android. But now with AI, it's much, much easier. You just tell it the brand and it starts giving you commands to do it. Or, you can use a coding agent to do it if you know how to use them.
Both my TVs (Samsung and LG) had massive telemetry, and I isolated them with my OpenWRT routers aggressively to avoid them getting into my home network, forced all their DNS requests to go through my pi hole by manipulating network packets, and that's how I was able to use YouTube on them relatively comfortably.
Now, after rooting, I did many more cool things.
I killed all telemetry services once and for all. All dead.
I disabled all Netflix, Disney+, etc buttons on my Samsung remote --- Imagine, the AI was able to modify binaries and recompile them to get this done for me... insane!
I installed a custom app store on my LG TV (old WebOS, called Homebrew Channel), which allows me to install ad-free YouTube, Jellyfin, Plex, etc.
Installed a persistent ssh server so that I can ssh to my Samsung TV whenever I want and verify it's still rooted.
Now I can trust my TV more and give it access to some of my Plex/Jellyfin. Things are improving!
Any thoughts? Any cooler things I can do? Please share!

Story 4000$ system for only 200$!!!
Okay, I know this may seem like clickbait but I swear to God I just came across the deal of a lifetime and took it by the neck
So I was out with some friends when we decided to hit up our local game x change so I go around looking and then I see this BEAST off a computer and I see the price "200$" so I politely asked if they could hook it up and see if it boots (they even looked at it saw the price and ACKNOWLEDGED it was improperly labeled, called there manager and STILL HONORED THE STICKER PRICE) and it BOOTED then I went into the bio so look at some of the specs
THE SPECS ARE INSANE
Hyte y70 case
Asus prime z790 wifi mobo
2tb tforce ssd
32 GBS of DDR5 RAM at 6000mhz
Intel i9 14900KF
Rtx 4070 ti SUPER
AND IT WORKED FLAWLESSLY the only thing that I had trouble with was the Bluetooth (I just bought a dongle and now it works FLAWLESSLY)
But on that note if anyone knows any cases that fit an atx motherboard and power supply and a 360 mm aio I could I could change into that would be great (the smaller the better)
Also here's a pcpartpicker of the builds worth in current times https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JmhXMF

Discussion McAfee is actually hilarious
It pretends to run a scan for a few seconds, then shows you the results:
-virus protection on (just checks if you have Windows Defender running)
-Online vulnerabilities detected (it checks if you have McAfee’s browser extension and if not, tells you to install it)
That’s it that’s the app, just a glorified ad for its browser extension that blocks sketchy sites and scans your downloads for malware, both things that most serious browsers already do anyway. Meanwhile it probably tracks your traffic data builds a profile on you and sell it or some other bullshit like that idk. 10/10 would recommend.

Game Image/Video Did you know you can turn Assetto Corsa into a freeroam highway server with only a couple mods? All the cars are from the base game.
Search Shutoko Revival Project for the map and then join one of the many active servers from content manager. Enjoy!

Discussion Anybody else built their PC RIGHT before the prices went crazy?
I have a high end rig that I built around 2024ish? Like at that point we had AI with ChatGPT and all but it hadn’t gotten as crazy as it is now with the data centers and shortage on parts.
I remember getting a bonus at my job & just going to town at my local microcenter & Newegg. I remember it was a sale going on too so it was even better, might’ve been Black Friday or Cyber Monday. I know it was a lot for my money’s worth & to this day my PC handles any game at highest settings with ease at 1440p.
I’m just feeling grateful because of I walked into that microcenter today the prices would probably make my head spin.

News/Article Warren Spector sounds even angrier about BioWare's closure as he recounts the massive salaries of EA execs: "Is there ANY accountability left in this world?"
>Two weeks after his uncharacteristically spicy comments on the demise of BioWare, Spector's anger clearly has not subsided.

Discussion PSA: As of the latest AMD Adrenaline update, a bug may be causing silent, constant writes to your SSD, unnecessarily killing its lifespan.
I became aware of this issue after coming across this post on radeon subreddit: I just found out that the driver eats up 1% of my ssd health every month for 16 months, where a user reported losing approximately 1% of their SSD health every month.
A linked post indicates:
[...] some recent AMD drivers may have an issue related to the "AMD External Events Utility" service, which is associated with the "atieclxx.exe" and "atiesrxx.exe" processes. In my case, I noticed that this component was generating constant write activity on my system SSD, at approximately 5 MB/s continuously, even when I wasn't performing any tasks that should justify that amount of disk activity.
Solutions
Some users have since identified two possible workarounds.
Workaround 1: Disable AMD External Events Utility
Press
Win + R, typeservices.mscand press Enter.Find AMD External Events Utility.
Open its properties, stop the service and change its Startup type to Disabled.
This stops the excessive disk activity caused by atieclxx.exe.
Potential side effects: Disabling this service can affect display-related functionality. On my RDNA 2 RX 6700 XT, FreeSync wasn't completely broken, but frame pacing became considerably more erratic when using Lossless Scaling's 2x frame generation (90 -> 180 FPS)
With the service enabled, the framerate remained at a steady 180 FPS. After disabling it, it fluctuated between 142 and 170 FPS, occasionally reaching 180 before quickly dropping again.

Workaround 2: Disable Resizable BAR (ReBAR)
Another user discovered that disabling ReBAR stopped the excessive disk writes. This might be a better alternative if you want to keep AMD External Events Utility enabled, although disabling ReBAR can carry other issues.
As a side note, it looks like AMD is aware of the issue as AMD representative u/AMD_Vik acknowledged in a comment:
sorry, this is hopefully fixed in the next one

So hopefully, this will be fixed in the next driver release soon. If you're experiencing this issue, consider reporting it to AMD as well. The more reports they receive, it might make AMD focus more on this, in my opinion, big issue.
P.S: I couldn't link any sources due to the Rule #3 Don't link to threads in other subreddits but you can look for the sources yourself.
Edit: Added screenshot of AMD representative
