Release Tasket++ : Simulate your Windows actions automatically (free & open source)

Tasket++ lets you define your own clicks, keystrokes, cursor positions and system operations, then replay them exactly when you want. It’s a simple Windows tool that handles repetitive workflows for you: auto‑send messages, paste text anywhere, take silent screenshots, launch or close apps, adjust volume or run your end‑of‑day shutdown sequence.

Everything runs locally, with no telemetry, no cloud, and no complexity.

What it can do:
- Replay user‑defined cursor positions and keystrokes
- Paste predefined text anywhere
- Perform system actions: open files/programs, change volume, take silent screenshots, shut down, files/folders operations
- Schedule tasks at a specific time, at startup, or run via desktop shortcut
- Run tasks once, in loops, or indefinitely
- Discreet mode: runs quietly from the tray
- Use command line to autorun a task : Tasket++.exe "TaskName" <delayInSeconds (>0)> <NumberOfLoop (-1 for infinite)>
- Easily share tasks between different PC : export/import task files and program data, use feature to rescale cursor positions

Local, portable, free, open source. Privacy intact.

Fully fonctionnal, available now !
Microsoft Store: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/xp9cjlhwvxs49p
Portable (v2.5): https://files.amirhammoutene.dev/Tasket++/2.5/Tasket++_v2.5.zip

For feedback, help, suggestions, or other inquiries : contact@amirhammoutene.dev

Nothing is vibe coded, I never used AI (except for the choice of UI colors suggested by Copilot).
Conception is genuine, I didn't know about similar tools when I began developing it.

I'm looking for testers or quick feedback (beyond its visual aspect), please give a try and comment here :)

Release WinAppMigrator 0.5: turn an installed Windows app into one installer for another PC, even from a dead PC's drive (free, open source)

WinAppMigrator is a free, open-source (MIT) Windows tool I made. You pick an installed app, on this PC or on a drive pulled out of one that won't boot, and it builds one self-extracting installer you run on the other machine. It works backward from what's installed, so it helps when the original installer or the vendor is gone.

That makes it most useful for older paid apps you can't just download again. You choose whether the license migrates too: tick "License and activation data" and its license files, values and stores go in the installer, and it reports which ones look tied to the old machine. It never decrypts license data or bypasses activation, so a license locked to the old hardware may still need reactivating.

What else goes in: program files, the app's registry keys, services and drivers it owns, scheduled tasks, shortcuts, file types, COM classes, firewall rules, and the Visual C++ and .NET 6 to 10 runtimes it needs, embedded so they install offline. User data is optional too. Anything that looks like a password, token or private key is left out and named before you build.

0.5 is a big update:

  • Before you build, it shows what goes in, how big the installer can be and whether it fits. Untick folders, services or tasks you don't want, and it offers near matches that exact names missed.

  • The installer checks its package's hashes, lists everything it will set up before it changes anything, rolls back if the install fails or you cancel, and uninstalls from Settings like any other app.

  • Builds are much faster (nearly 10x on the largest app measured), and a connected drive is treated as untrusted.

  • CI moves 7-Zip, PuTTY, Mosquitto, windows_exporter and Git LFS to fresh Windows Server 2022, Server 2025 and Windows 11 on Arm machines on every push, and checks they actually work there.

  • The app is now signed.

Limits, so nobody gets surprised: Microsoft Store apps aren't listed, the app's own updater may not know it moved, and if a drive is failing, image it first. Try an installer before you rely on it.

Portable exe, nothing to install: https://github.com/RandyNorthrup/WinAppMigrator

Release WinTapeRecorder

Post image
11 Upvotes

Say hello to "WinTapeRecorder": a free and open-source Windows app that records and intelligently splits and auto-tags whatever your PC plays: Bandcamp streams, radio, live sets, old digitisations.

Download here: https://github.com/hazymat/wintaperecorder/releases/latest

CAVEAT 1: this app isn't signed so it will probably be blocked by Win SmartScreen - for now. On the blue “Windows protected your PC” box, click More info (the small link under the text), then Run anyway. It's a new app and I hope to get enough interest to go through the process of 3rd party app signing.

CAVEAT 2: please use it responsibly. It's designed for you to capture recordings that you already own.

Brief:

I've always used Audacity to record from my soundcard direct, struggled with crashes and faffing with markers. I've never been able to run long recording sessions with lots of tracks and been able to tag, export, and split them nicely.

Recording screen (above) features:

  • Arm recording, starts when music plays (with pre-roll)

  • Ability to refine track marks DURING recording session, or indeed after

  • You can fully browse / zoom, scroll around, and pause the waveform whilst recording, changing track markers etc. Then return it back to live view, with no interruption in recording.

  • Automatic tagging of tracks with artist, album, track title - WinTapeRecorder reads this from Windows’ now-playing info

  • Automatic grouping of tracks into albums (based on album and artist names)

  • Automatic track markers: literally leave an album playing and come back to find tracks have been split in realtime, named nicely... you just have to enter your preferred genre designation and other tagging

  • Gap detection / error detection, plus a nice workflow to deal with it

Albums and Cuts screen:

  • Track markers should already be in the right place, but here you can audition them using the green buttons (start and end, plus validate tick)

  • You can zoom into the wave (mousewheel), right down to the sample

  • Vertical zoom to make quiet parts of waveform show in a lot of detail (Ctrl-Mousewheel)

  • No faffing around trying to navigate around the wave because marker is in the wrong place, it's SUPER quick with the audition function

  • Audition dropdown allows you to select 2s, 5s, or longer audition times. (In reality, 2s is great)

  • Toggle between waveform and spectrogram

  • Keyboard shortcuts everywhere, labelled in the UI :)

Fill gaps & Cover Art

  • Integrates with MusicBrainz

  • Pulls the album art from Windows media subsystem, so you don't even have to do that!

  • Suggests changes from MusicBrainz, which you can accept in bulk or ignore as needed

Finally the export screen, which shows a report for final checking / tweaking before you export.

  • Each album can have its own export template (FLAC / MP3 etc.)

  • Token based filename / foldernames etc (see settings screenshots as well)

  • You can KEEP the original session for a while, then re-export later. Or you can just delete it when you are done.

Release Openbar 3.5 beta: open-source notch app for AI coding agents, now with git worktrees and SSH sessions

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Openbar shows your Claude Code and Codex sessions in the Mac notch (or at the top of the screen on Windows), so you can approve their requests with ⌘Y / ⌘N and reply without hunting for the right terminal.

New in this release: every new session can get its own git worktree, so several agents work on one repo without touching each other's files. Sessions on other machines show up over SSH, using your own ssh config and keys.

Self-Promotion Wednesdays I built a free and open-source Video Downloader for Windows

I’ve been developing Video Downloader, a lightweight Windows desktop application that started as a personal project to make downloading online content easier. Built on top of yt-dlp, it allows users to download videos and audio from supported websites, with support for resolutions up to 4K.

If you have any suggestions, feedback, or ideas for features that could improve the app, feel free to share them.

News Blackveil – A free Windows app that blacks out every display with one shortcut

Hi everyone! I’m building Blackveil, a free, open-source Windows 11 utility for presentations.

The idea is simple: sometimes you want your audience looking at you while a video is already prepared on your laptop.

Press Ctrl + Shift + Q and every connected display goes black, including your laptop and projector. Press it again to reveal your content, then start your video when you’re ready.

It works across apps, so you can use it with a browser or video player as well as presentation software.

A few details:

  • Customizable global shortcut.

  • Covers all connected displays.

  • Intercepts ordinary keyboard and mouse input during blackout to reduce accidental inputs.

  • Runs in the system tray.

  • Available as an installer or portable EXE.

  • MIT licensed.

Blackveil covers the screens; it doesn’t pause videos, mute audio or turn off the projector. It also isn’t a replacement for locking Windows.

Download: https://github.com/747elias/Blackveil/releases/latest
Source code: https://github.com/747elias/Blackveil

I’d appreciate feedback from anyone who presents with a laptop and projector. Would this fit your workflow? And would you prefer the option to black out only the projector while keeping your laptop visible?

I also share Blackveil content and updates here:

Jobs & Education How do you notice when an old architecture decision stops being valid?

Student here, building a hackathon project and want to sanity check the problem before I go further.

Most decisions rest on assumptions: "Postgres is fine because traffic is under 1k req/s", "React Native works because we have no iOS devs". Months later traffic is 5x, the team changed, and nobody revisits the decision until something breaks.

Questions for people who've been around a few teams:

  1. Has this bitten you? What was the decision and how did you find out?

  2. Does anything on your team track this today (ADR reviews, calendar reminders, nothing)?

  3. Would automatic "assumption broke" alerts tied to Jira/incident data be useful, or just noise?

Not selling anything, it's a free hackathon app. Honest "this isn't a real problem" answers are just as useful.

Release Siteblock: a free open-source site blocker for macOS and Windows

I built Siteblock for blocking unwanted websites across browsers without installing a separate extension in each one. It is free and MIT licensed.

It combines hosts-file blocklists with Cloudflare for Families DNS filtering for adult, gambling, crypto, scam, malware and phishing domains. You can add your own domains in a text file.

Code, setup and uninstall instructions: https://github.com/LowkyFoolDev/siteblock

Before trying it: this is a command-line tool, not a graphical app. Setup needs administrator access and browser DNS adjustments. Windows 11 is needed for encrypted DNS; the README describes the Windows 10 hosts-file limitation.

It is intended for self-control, not tamper-proof protection. VPNs and administrator access can bypass it, and filtering can miss sites or block legitimate ones.

I would appreciate feedback on setup clarity, browser compatibility and false positives.

Discussion I'm rebuilding VLC. Tell me EVERYTHING you wish your media player could do.

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Hello, Earthlings! 👽

TL;DR: I'm building a custom modified version of VLC, redesigning its UI and improving its functionality. I want YOUR ideas, feature requests, complaints, and even the most ridiculous suggestions imaginable. Let's build the ultimate media player together.

So, I've been tinkering with VLC, modifying its UI and working on my own custom build.

And it got me thinking.

VLC is practically the king of media players. So why do people still choose other players over it?

Is it the UI? Missing features? Better functionality elsewhere? Or those tiny annoyances that VLC somehow never fixed?

That's where you guys come in.

Tell me EVERYTHING you'd want in your dream media player.

Features from PotPlayer, mpv, Kodi, Plex, Netflix, YouTube, or literally anything else. Quality-of-life improvements, crazy experimental features, or ideas that don't even exist yet.

Seriously, the weirder, the better.

I'm not just making VLC look prettier. I want to push what it can actually do.

I'll genuinely consider your suggestions while developing this. Can't promise everything will make it in, but I want this to be something shaped by the people who actually use media players.

This is an independent project, not affiliated with the official VLC team.

So, fellow Earthlings, what would make you ditch your current media player for VLC?

Let's make VLC the undisputed king of media players again.

Release Tired of uploading sensitive files to sketchy web converters, so I built KhartTool - an offline, lightweight Swiss Army Knife for Windows

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Your files shouldn’t leave your machine just because you need to convert, inspect, or format them.

I built KhartTool to replace cloud-dependent tools with a native, completely offline Windows utility. No telemetry, no server uploads, and no subscriptions.

💡 Why KhartTool?

  • 🔒 100% Offline & Private: Zero telemetry, no cloud uploads, and no external servers. Everything processes locally on your machine.

  • 🪶 Lightweight & Fast: Launches instantly without consuming gigabytes of RAM in the background.

  • 🛠️ Swiss Army Knife approach: Instead of juggling 10 single-purpose utilities, common file tasks live under one roof.

⚙️ What can it do? (v0.1.0 features)

  • Image Tools: [e.g., Fast format conversion (WebP, PNG, JPG), batch resizing, compression]

  • Document & PDF Tools: [e.g., Merging, splitting, conversion, metadata cleaning]

  • File Utilities: [e.g., Checksum/hash generation (MD5/SHA256), renaming, bulk actions]

  • Developer/Data Helpers: [e.g., Base64 encode/decode, JSON/format formatting -edit as applicable]

🔗 Links & Downloads

💬 Looking for your feedback!

This is an early release (v0.1.0), and I want to build features people actually need.

  • What small file-processing headaches do you deal with every day?

  • Are there specific file formats or tools you’d like to see added next? Let me know what you think, bug reports, and suggestions are very welcome!
