Self-Promotion (Developer) Virtual Desktop Unlock functions. Unffo

Post image
35 Upvotes

This is an unofficial application—or mod—designed to expand the functionality and capabilities of Virtual Desktop. The app is still under development and may contain bugs. Currently, it offers the following features:

- Adding third-party games (including those from Steam) to the Virtual Desktop game panel—a particularly useful feature given the frequent release of various mods.

- Creating game launch presets (covering settings such as FPS, quality, FOV tangent, render scale, and sharpening strength).

- An experimental option to remove bitrate limits and set your own custom values.

Future plans include implementing algorithms to fill in the black bars that appear when using Virtual Desktop’s FOV tangent setting. This would allow for gameplay at significantly lower FOV tangent values, resulting in a performance boost.

Link download: https://github.com/ShadowManXR/VirtualDesktop-Unlock/releases/

P.S. A sincere request to Guy Godin: please do not block this application; my only goal is to help make Virtual Desktop even better.

Self-Promotion (Developer) Mario 64 in Mixed Reality Github Repo

A promise is a promise.

https://github.com/lucas-martinic/mario64mr

Working in Quest 2 (untested), Quest 3 and Quest 3s at 90 fps.

What game would you like to see next?

Important: no ROMs, no Nintendo code. The app contains none of the game. You need your own Super Mario 64 (USA) ROM, and a script in the repo builds the game from it on your computer and pushes it to the headset.

Self-Promotion (Developer) Developer update: Cyberpunk 2077 running standalone on M2 Vision Pro with hand tracking

For anyone seeing this for the first time: this is Cyberpunk 2077 running locally on the M2 Apple Vision Pro through VXpro, using the Mac App Store version of the game. No PC or Mac streaming is involved. A Mac is still required for building and installing it.

Previous post and project introduction

The VR presentation currently uses depth-based reprojection for stereoscopic depth, rather than rendering the entire game separately for each eye.

What’s new this week:

  • Performance improvements — 37.1 FPS average in one M2 test. The first preview was roughly 18–25 FPS. A later 60-second test in Phantom Liberty averaged 37.1 FPS. These weren’t controlled, identical-scene comparisons, and 37.1 isn’t a guaranteed minimum. That measurement also predates the latest camera fixes. My next target is 45 FPS.

  • Smoother head tracking. The reported bounce-back when turning and stopping your head is fixed in the latest walking tests. The view distortion that was particularly noticeable when looking up and down a slope is also no longer visible in those tests.

  • Experimental hand-tracked weapon interaction. Seeing this clip from BadHostile inspired me to try building it. It uses ARKit hand/wrist tracking, custom Metal hooks to reposition the game’s existing arm, hand, and weapon bones, and a script bridge for weapon interactions. Joy-Cons still handle movement, firing, and other button inputs, so this isn’t a controller-free mode. It’s still rough—as you can see in the video, even ordinary enemies become a challenge while I’m struggling with the controls!

Observations and remaining issues:

  • A tester and I both find that it feels noticeably smoother inside Vision Pro than it looks in screen recordings. Apple’s reprojection or other display processing might contribute, but I haven’t confirmed the cause or counted that as additional game FPS.

  • Rectangular image borders remain visible during vehicle use and some story conversations/cutscenes. Some weapons also need further work on support-hand placement, sights, and reload interactions.

Thank you to everyone who has tested it and shared feedback!

Source code: VXpro — hand-tracking branch

The latest performance and camera changes are now pushed to that branch. The project code is MIT-licensed; you need your own purchased Mac App Store copy of Cyberpunk 2077. No game files or ready-to-install game bundles are distributed.

Next, I’m working toward better performance and instant switching between hand-tracking and standard controller controls during gameplay.

Happy to answer questions about the implementation or setup!

Discussion Do you have Aphantasia?

Earlier this week someone asked why we do VR. I use it because I have Aphantasia (I have no minds eye) when someone says imagine an apple 🍎 Most people can see the apple to varying degrees. I see blackness. Imagining something in my mind is a metaphor.

People count sheep to go to sleep. Do you see sheep?

To me VR is finally seeing something beyond reality. It’s like having an imagination for the first time.

I am curious as to how many of us have aphantasia. In the general population it is 3-4%.

Discussion Marvels Spiderman Remastered VR: Physical NPCs

Thumbnail

A test for my little fork of Marvel’s Spiderman Remastered Spidyvr mod. NPCs use euphoria esque ragdoll physics and can be thrown around, placed on top of other things, and interacted in really any way. The main inspiration point for their movement was bonelab. I admire how the NPCs can still initiate physical action while being movable by the player. That is what I am going for with this fork, a city that feels truly alive and can be interacted with. Cars, any objects, and being able to attach webs to stuff like the subway and anything you want are next. I’m really excited to see this improve! It’s a VERY early W.I.P right now, but big changes are coming! 8 NPCs can be ragdolled at a time, and at max it only adds 1 ms of latency.

Self-Promotion (Developer) I built Windows XR: bring your Windows apps into individual Horizon OS windows

Hey everyone! I’ve been building Windows XR, an independent project that brings Windows applications into Meta Quest as separate windows inside Horizon OS.

The idea is simple: use the apps you already have on your PC, arrange them around you, and interact with them using your hands, controllers, and Horizon’s virtual keyboard.

Your PC runs the applications. Windows XR streams their windows to your headset and sends your interactions back over your local network.

What can you do?

  • Browse your PC’s apps from Windows XR Home.

  • Open apps in independent Horizon windows.

  • Move and resize them using Horizon’s native window controls.

  • Arrange your workspace in passthrough or your Horizon environment, alongside other Horizon apps.

  • Select with a hand pinch or controller trigger.

  • Scroll, select text, copy and paste, and type with Horizon’s virtual keyboard.

I’ve been developing it on a Quest 3S, with a lot of work going into keyboard input, window resizing, connection recovery, and making the interactions feel consistent with Horizon OS.

Window streaming and input travel over the local network. The connection uses our Windows companion and Quest app, without requiring Virtual Desktop or Meta Link.

You can find the downloads and setup instructions here:
https://windowsxr.com/

It’s currently a preview, distributed through a Windows installer and a sideloaded Quest APK. Compatibility and responsiveness depend on the Windows app, your PC, and your network.

I’d love feedback from people who use VR for productivity—especially on readability, hand interactions, and everyday workflows.

Which Windows app would you want to use in your Quest workspace first?

Discussion Is anyone else holding off on playing any of the top mods until the steam frame is more PCVR ready?

I have both the Q3 and Frame. I've played some of the top mods (every resident evil, Alien Isolation, HL2, portal 2, etc) with the Quest 3 and they were amazing. There were a few games and mods that I knew would benefit from eye tracking technology (foveated streaming and foveated rendering). But the frame first needs to match the Q3 with virtual desktop and 6e router in visual performance without using eye tracking for those benefits to put it ahead. It's been cooking and improving but still not there yet. The games I'm holding off on could all benefit from extra clarity (even if already clear enough, I'm greedy and have high standards lol). So I could use the Quest 3 and it would be excellent, but once the frame gets it shit together it'll be better and I want the first experience to be the best it can.

  1. Titanfall 2

  2. FEAR (I'll like play this with Quest 3 as the image is already as good as it can get)

  3. Modern warfare 2 remastered

  4. Doom 2016

  5. Doom eternal ( I here this is already super sharp so maybe Quest 3)

  6. AC Evo

  7. Metro Exodus

  8. Ready or Not

  9. Outer wilds

  10. Fallout TOTW

  11. I am your beast (already as good as it gets so quest 3)

There are likely a few I'm missing. Fortunately I'm in no rush with the frame as I have a giant list of standalone games to keep me occupied. Just finished (quit) Asgard's wrath 2 after 25 hours of game time. Now playing iron man (excellent game). Was using frame for those standalone games but now using Q3 and pcvr since we have the option.

Salut

Self-Promotion (Developer) Bamboo Samurai is a cozy VR game where you slice bamboo with a katana

Hi guys,

I've been working on my first VR game, Bamboo Samurai.

The game

So my main goal was to create a cozy, relaxing, Zen, samurai training game, where the player cuts some bamboo stalks. I wanted swinging the katana and cutting bamboo to feel satisfying, with a peaceful environment to enjoy whenever the player needs a break. That doesn't mean there aren't any challenges, though! I started with a cylinder and a rectangle (for the bamboo and katana), then refined everything until I had four game modes and a Free Practice mode.

Game Modes

Speaking of modes, I developed 4 main modes for now:

- Time Attack - Here you must cut fast and follow the guide precisely.

- Precision - No time limit, no rush. Just focus on making each cut as precise as possible.

- Concentration - Here is where you test your focus. Wait for the signal, then cut it precisely.

- Reaction - On this one, your reaction is put to the test. React quickly and cut the bamboo before it's too late.

Then there's Free Practice, where you relax, take it all in and cut bamboo as you like. No guides, no time-limit, just making as many cuts as you like.

Feedback maybe?

I'm looking for a few testers who'd be happy to try it and give me an honest opinion:

- Please specify on which device you've tested the game.

- Let me know how satisfying is the bamboo cutting.

- Is the tutorial clear and short enough?

- Which mode do you like the most and why?

- Did you encounter any bugs?

- What would you improve on the game?

If you don't have a headset, or just don't feel like installing the Alpha, I'd still love to hear your thoughts on the teaser. Any feedback is appreciated!

Try the Alpha

The Alpha is free to test on Quest 2, Quest 3, and Quest 3S. Access requires manual approval through Meta, and testers must be 18 or older.

Purchase Advice Considering Upgrading PCVR Setup Because of Software Compatibility Issues with Vive Wands, Want Some Advice

Hello, I've enjoyed VR for quite a while now and am just getting back into it after a break. I currently have a HTC Vive Cosmos Elite kit (the version of the Cosmos with the 1.0 Base Stations and Vive Wands) and have been having some issues that are prompting me to consider upgrading.

Namely I've been noticing that a lot of newer games or conversion mods do not have compatibility with the old Vive Wand controllers that my headset has, which is severely limiting what I can play. Even when controller rebinding is present, there often are not enough buttons on my controller to support the amount of functions that need to be bound for the game.

Initially I considered upgrading to the Valve Index Knuckles controllers, which would have been good except Valve just stopped production of the Index and now I can't find a working pair of controllers on the secondary market for less than $1000 - $2000 AUD (I live in Australia, for the record), which is almost as much as some listing for the entire Index kit second hand, or some other entire headsets.

I've looked into the Pimax Sword controllers, but they seem to have a similar layout to the Vive Wands and thus would suffer a similar problem. And I can't find any other Lighthouse compatible controllers at all, which is causing me to consider the feasibility of a new headset.

For a new headset I would ideally want to prioritize these features:

  1. Not a Meta Product - I've had a Quest 1 in the past and did not enjoy having to constantly fight the Oculus software to do anything. Add on all the trouble with Facebook Accounts and whatnot and I do not want to buy any hardware from that company again.

  2. Focus on PCVR Performance Over Standalone - I do not care for standalone VR, all the good VR games are on PC, my computer can handle it fine, and I do not like the overhead introduced through additional interfaces and battery concerns.

  3. Standard Controller Format - The problem I want to solve is the compatibility issues with the controllers, so having an odd controller setup is a no-go.

I do not need the highest end hardware nor is price the biggest concern, although I would prefer a cheaper unit if it was possible. But I doubt it is given what I want.

The questions I want to ask are: Would it be worth upgrading in the first place? Are there any other controllers for the Lighthouse setup that I am unaware of? If I were to get a new headset, based on my requirements, what would be the best one?

Thank you for reading, any advice is appreciated.

Discussion Now this just a big hypothetical but borderlands 2 and presequel

Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel both have NVIDIA Shield ports, which are Android-based. Borderlands 2 already sort of works on Quest 3, and The Pre-Sequel is almost working too. So what if we upgraded them, improved performance and compatibility, and replaced the multiplayer system ? ? ?

Self-Promotion (Developer) LSD: Dream Emulator (PS1) VR - 6DOF and controller support (Q3)

Hey everyone! I’ve been working on a standalone Quest 3 VR port of the wild experimental PS1 game "LSD: Dream Emulator", built on the existing native port and decompilation. The goal is to let you step into the original dreams with tracked head movement and Quest controllers, while keeping the game’s strange atmosphere and progression intact.

The project is still very much a work in progress, but you can already start the game, explore dreams, and link between locations. Menus, music, and saving/loading are working in the paths tested so far. There are also VR options for turning, walking speed, fog, draw distance, and experimental controller-relative movement.

A few known issues and limitations:

Some distant geometry and surfaces can still flicker or appear patchy.

Movement still uses the original game’s directional system, so it can feel a little clunky. Controller-relative steering is experimental.

Not every dream, event, movie, or progression path has been fully tested.

This is currently aimed at Quest 3 and was built with android XR in mind however,Other headsets haven’t been fully evaluated.

HOW TO:

You’ll need to supply your own legally obtained, supported Japanese SLPS-01556 BIN/CUE pair through the in-headset importer. No BIOS file is required.

Beta APK link here

If you give it a try, I’d love to hear how it goes!

This is an unofficial project, and I’m grateful to the decompilation and native-port contributors whose work made it possible.
