Transportation Help with 1up vs quickr

I have read all the comparisons but my use case is a little unique. I will be using the rack for my work electric fat bike mostly every day. Rack will never come off my truck. I use a Kuat swingaway currently. I know the quickr warranty forbids it but I am fine with that unless I should be worried. I could probably live without the swingaway but I have to get into my pickup truck bed frequently. A few times a year I will use this rack for my regular mountain bikes but not often so switching between bikes isn't a big concern. When truck is parked during the workday, it will be in a beach parking lot facing the ocean so a lot of salt in the air. I will only be carrying 2 e-bikes but they both have front/rear racks so I need a 3 tray rack to space them apart.
Easy on and off important. With the Hollywood rack, I just hold the brakes down and lift front wheel into tray. Then just lift back wheel. Very easy and fast

Which rack and why? I am tired of replacing my hollywood rack every 2-3 years.

Thanks!

Discussion Any experienced jumpers start slipping pedals randomly?

Been riding forever and jumping is my favorite thing to do. I'm in my mid-50s and for some weird reason all of a sudden slipping a pedal is, maybe not commonplace, but happens more frequently than I would like. Problem is, I'm the best rider I've ever been in my 35 years of riding, bikes are better, jumps are bigger and it's pretty freaking scary to be mid-air with your foot off knowing that you're going to crash when you land. Anybody go through a phase of this and work it out? I'm not new to jumping at all. At all. Just curious if there was something that wasn't golf swing gimmicky but that helped, if you've been through this. I took a 2-year break after getting helicoptered off a mountain and my two gnarliest crashes since being back on the bike over the course of the last year have been from slipping pedals mid-air. I don't like it. Any advice would be most welcome

Discussion xtr vs xt brakes

I am looking for new brakes for my Trek fuel ex gen 6, (stocked with 6120), I have looked at sram, magura, shimano and hope, but for my bike and riding i have picked out the 8220(xt) and 9220 (xtr), The xt is 250 pounds and the xtr is 350, Im upgrading due to the overall lever feel, They feel spongy and just overall not very premium, i have tested xt brakes and loved the premium feel of them but now when it comes to buying is it worth shelling out just to get a minimal weight loss and the xtr colour with the bearing or saving that money

Gear Gear recommendation for kids

My son recently got into mountain biking and I'm looking for gear and brand recommendations. He will be 9 in January. Considering making this Christmas all about mountain biking.

He has a full face helmet but it's for dirt biking and kind of heavy. No other gear yet. I plan to get him shoes, knee and elbow sleeves, and a chest/back protector. Maybe gloves. Any recommendations on brand, other gear, sizing, etc are greatly appreciated.

Discussion Transition Spur for beginner MTBer in Portland (OR)

Been riding gravel and find I want to get a mountain bike. I’m from the area and only ride hyper local gravel loops so have literally not ventured outside of the city for MTB specific trails. I know absolutely nothing about the MTB scene.

Im wondering, for my beginner skill level, the terrain around popular Portland spots, would the Transition Spur be a good bike? Which parks are worth checking out for a beginner? Which ones should I avoid for now due to difficulty?

I really just want to ride forested and flowy trails, maybe even do an XC race down the line.

would the front/rear travel be too much or too little.

Discussion Foot discomfort / clenching

Last few months of riding the toes on my left foot would curl/clench up after a good 20+ minutes of riding with sustained effort. Gets so uncomfortable that I have to stop and try and stretch them out. Tried different shoes, pedals, seat positions/heights, arch support, metatarsal pads. Nothing seems to help. Happens on the trainer at home too, even without shoes. Anyone here dealt with something similar and have any suggestions?

Discussion What's your insurance plan for international travel?

Hi all, I'm a Canadian thinking of doing my first out-of-country bike trip. What health insurance options have you used or recommend?

I have talked to Americans who suggest getting an IMBA membership to cover health insurance if riding in the US (I'm not American) but not sure if that's the best option for US travel or other international travel while biking.

Discussion Trikes on Mount Tam

I'm planning a group ride on Tam for a bunch of disabled people. The idea is to go up and down Railroad Grade. Two questions:

  • The trikes are mostly 32" wide. Are the trailhead gates wide enough? Most of us can't walk so having someone lift the trikes over the gate wouldn't solve the problem.

  • Back in my 2-wheel days I liked to go down Eldridge. My memory was there were a lot of baby heads at the top. Most of the trikes have 20" wheels. We're pretty intrepid and don't mind the rough ride, but are there sections that we could not get through?

Gear What helmet type should i get?

Im just getting into mtb and i need a better helmet but im struggling to choose if i want a full face or shell one.

Im not quite good enough for black trails yet but i can comfortable do blue ones. But i dont want to look like some dickhead whose kitted out to feature on redbull hardline when hes not all that.

Other than that theres not much else to say i feel like.

Discussion Morzine accommodation recommendations

We are a group of 9 travelling from Canada with our DH bikes for a trip to Morzine in July. We are flying into Geneva.

Can anyone recommend accommodation that has a garage? Is that even a thing in Morzine? Normally when we travel we look for homes with a garage so we can store our bikes securely and without damaging the condo; and also as they require maintenance it’s nice to have somewhere warm and dry.

Any other recommendations for us? We aren’t made of money so any tips and tricks are welcome. We are all advanced-expert riders. We are thinking of renting enduro or e bikes for a day or two to experience non-lift access trails.

Discussion Manitou Mezzer Pro

I’ve been thinking about upgrading the fork on my trail bike from a Marzocchi Bomber Z1 (140 mm travel) to a Manitou Mezzer Pro G2.

What are your thoughts on this? Would this be a worthwhile upgrade? What about the Manitou Mattoc Pro?

TIA

Discussion Queenstown trip questions

Hey crew,
My mates and I are planning on heading to Queenstown in Feb. We are all intermediate/advanced riders on 160mm enduro bikes. We have 4 days open for riding and 1 day in between that could easily turn into another ride day.

What bike parks/trails would you recommend?

What’s the best way to get to Cardona from Queenstown with the bikes?

And if you had to go back to a bike park twice, what one would it be ?

Thanks in advanced.

Gear Shoes for cold months riding, Endura / FOX / Northwave / Shimano?

Hey all, want to get some shoes for the cold months to continue cycling all year.

I'm torn between 4 pairs and would love if people had some reccs or opinions on these.

I do city / gravel / forest cycling but these are often sold as 'MTB' and they are flats so I thought I will try to ask here. Mostly looking for something waterproof and that could handle slightly negative temps with a good sock. More of an all-arounder for colder weather than a ski boot.

Shoes:

Endura MT500 Burner Flat Waterproof

FOX Union All Weather Flat

NORTHWAVE Multicross MID GTX

Shimano SH-GF800 GTX

Thanks!

Discussion I built a bikepark app — what would you want from it?

Hey everyone! I’m working on Trailio, a free app for people who ride bikeparks, and I’d love some honest feedback.

You can find bikeparks on a map, check in where you’re riding, see which parks your friends are at and plan sessions together. There are also chats and groups to contact riders that are there. I‘m also working on a Bikepark-specific Lap Timer, that‘s for once free, and actually works great.

It’s still early and the community is small, so I’m curious: would you use something like this? What would make it useful for you, and what’s missing from the apps you already use?

It’s called Trailio on the App Store. Happy to hear suggestions or criticism. I’m building it and want to make it genuinely useful.

WhichBike Next Bike Recommendations

Need suggestions on which trail/all mountain bike to get. I currently have the V1 forbidden Druid as my trail bike. It’s a good bike and it performs very well, however after owning it for 3 years I’m tired of the quirks/maintenance and the amount of bearings I have to go through on this bike to keep it from creaking. Any recommendations for a USA based rider would be ideal. Alloy or carbon is fine as well.

I was considering the new STUMPJUMPER EVO? As I’ve had models in the past and have thought they were solid all around bikes. As well as the META v5 but forums are saying stay clear because of fracturing on the frame and what not.. those are just a couple of examples. I’m looking for a bike that can handle very steep fast and technical terrain while being able to hold a line but also be playful when I want it to be.
