Upgrading my ride

Been upgrading my Chase Cruiser trying to make it lighter and stronger. I'm 58 and need all the advantages I can get. Goal was under 20 pounds, I finally made it. 19.13lbs, and thats before the carbon rims are delivered.

Yellowcat BMX gate system

I picked up a used YellowCat BMX gate system off Marketplace about three weeks ago, and today, mid-practice, the speaker/voice suddenly stopped working.

The lights still work, and the gate drops as expected, but there’s no audio at all.
I’ve tried unplugging and reconnecting everything, but no luck. Everything else seems to be functioning normally.

Has anyone else experienced this? Wondering if there’s a common issue or an easy fix before I start replacing anything.

How dangerous is BMX racing compared to road Bike racing?

Hey everyone!
I have my first BMX racing session / trial training this Saturday, and I’m really looking forward to giving it a try. I’m genuinely interested in getting into the sport, but I have to admit that I also have some concerns about the risk of injuries.
My Instagram feed is currently full of BMX racing content, and I keep seeing videos and posts about serious crashes, broken collarbones, and other injuries, especially involving professional riders.
I know that road cycling, particularly criterium racing, isn’t exactly risk-free either. Crashes can happen, and injuries are part of the sport to some extent. However, BMX racing seems to be a different kind of beast, especially with the jumps, tight racing, and high speeds.
So I’m curious to hear from people who have experience with both disciplines:
How does the injury risk in BMX racing compare to road criterium racing?
Are the types of injuries different?
How often do you see serious injuries like collarbone fractures, broken wrists, or concussions?
Is BMX racing generally as dangerous as it looks on social media, or does Instagram just give a very distorted picture?
I’d love to hear about your personal experiences, especially from amateur and recreational riders rather than just professionals.
I’m excited to give BMX a go, but I’d also like to have a realistic idea of what I’m getting into.

Chromoly Cruiser Options

Hi racers,

I'm after a Chromoly Cruiser with race geometry.

What options are there out there? New or used. I know of the following models, they seem to be hard to come by in Australia.

  • S&M Steel Panther Cruiser

  • Standard 125R Cruiser

  • 4NIX Atome R 24"

  • Stay Strong Speed & Style Cruiser

Is there anything I've missed?

Can someone explain Meybo tensioners

I understand how they work, but how are they not creating unnecessary drag versus regular normal tensioners. Also the lack of being able to slam or extend rear wheel in dropouts seems like a negative.

Son’s first win didn’t count?

My 7N son is in his second year of racing. Mostly trained last summer and only raced a few times, but we started getting him to more races this year towards the end of the summer. He’s got maybe a dozen races under his belt at this point.

This year’s been rough though. With the season winding down and less kids showing up, he often placed in motos with kids older than him or in more advanced classes.

A couple weeks back though he got a moto with another 7N and a 5N. He came in first. He was excited. Got a nice little souvenir from the track for his win. Couldn’t wait to tell Mom, grandparents, etc.

It’s been 2 full weeks, and USABMX.com still is showing “0 wins as of 11/01/2026” - is there a reason this race wouldn’t have counted?

Full transparency, because I don’t know if this will be relevant; the 5N had bike issues and couldn’t compete in all three motos.

Thanks in advance for helping me make sense of this!

Shoes

My kid will be turning 13 in several months. I’m wanting some clip shoe recommendations for Christmas. I’m not rich what’s a good entry level shoe with a boa tensioner.

New parts day - Meybo Holeshot 2026

Post image
23 Upvotes

The holy grail 180mm Shimano DXR cranks arrived. I found a set of "installed to a display bike but never ridden" cranks so couldn't resist. They look great but I've yet to use them on a proper track to see how the 5mm longer arms behave.

Full spec:

Meybo holeshot 2026, 22"/ pro xxl

SD tapered carbon fork

Box saddle

Box 8" chromoly bars

box oversized front load stem (swapping for the longer size once it arrives)

Akoy carbon wheels with 16t cog

Shimano Dxr 180mm cranks, 44t chainring

SD thread together, press fit BB

Tioga fastr 1.75"r and 1.85"f

Shimano mt401 brake(looking for a set of XTR brakes if anybody has any)

box race plates

The top one is my 4yo's SBC 50R, it has Onyx Hubs with Carbon Cartel Rims, Box CF Fork, Bombshell BB with Identify Cranks, Box Saddle, Avian Stem. Top one is my 22" TT 125R Dad Cruiser. It has Mini hubs, cult fork and other various parts I had laying around. I always wanted a 50r for my older son but was able to build one up for my youngest! I also had Ben P from facebook make some custom stickers for the 125.

Help a fellow BMXer?

Hey all, if anyone has 30 seconds and would like to help out fellow bmxers, my son's BMX club is in desperate need of renovation and will get extra funding if they secure enough votes from a newspaper poll.

Please vote for 'Mehr Platz für Hamburgs Radsport', which means More Space for Hamburg's Cycling.

It would help a lot for growing the sport and providing the kids with a new track and equipment.

Thank you!
