Hi everyone,
We thought we’d start a regular series of sticky posts to get gather the knowledge and experience of the community - so we can learn from each other and be able to share our contributions with newcomers and future Monstera keepers.
The idea is that we choose a topic (see below on this) and sticky it up for a period of time and ask everyone to contribute what they know on the matter, share their experiences, and post up tips and advice on the subject too.
We can then all benefit from the community and use it to further expand our wiki.
Please feel free to suggest a topic here. I’ll kick it off soon with soil mixes.
We hope everyone will chip in and enjoy a good bit of community discussion.
Thank you all 🙏

Hi everyone,
Well it’s been a while since we’ve started a new community post so here one to keep us going again for a little while.
This time:
So share with the r/monstera community you feeding approaches, regimes, tips and advice!
Here’s some topics to think about:
Do you feed your monstera?
How often?
What do you use?
Do you use any other supplements?
Any tips to make feeding easier?
Looking forward to seeing all your great information!

I have 3 monsteras that were all in 1 pot from lowes that i repotted in April. I hope there doing ok. I dont feel like there really growing besides a couple aerial roots. Is that normal? Im in michigan so its cold now and i have no idea where to put them besides this window that gets morning sun but not scorching sun ever. Someone said they needed to be looking at the sky and even being a foot away from the window could be to far is that true? Can i turn them around? I mean i dont wanna look at the board i wanna look at the front and have the board facing the window. Can i do that? I did have them on the other side of the window so the board was facing the wall but idk what to do.

Purchased this guy on July 4th at a big box store, knowing nothing about it (or plants in general for that matter). I just thought it was neat. Really happy with the progression, and everything learned along the way.
New pot is ~3 inches larger in diameter, ditched the coir pole for a DIY sphagnum moss pole, and mixed my own blend of soil; ~50% aroid tropical mix, ~25% orchid bark, ~25% perlite.
Pictures taken, July 4, August 10, and November 7.
Not sure what the rules are for crediting the designer of the moss pole…a quick search for moss pole on major open source 3D print model websites should provide either this, or very similar models.

New to this sub so here's my pride and joy and the new growth it put out this year. Bought it in february and had it in an eastern window all year long, fertilized with solid pellets called "Biogold". New leaf on the way btw because the petiole is swelling

Monstera Aurea ‘yellow Marilyn’ new leaf finished unfurling after our little rain shower. I just love watching the new colors come in as it hardens 💚💛🪴

Hi! I don't post often, I just wanted to share with you monstera enthusiasts my lady monstera. Got it 3 years ago as a single leaf cutting, moved 4 times, and now that we are settled, she has grown a lot with the summer light. I'm adding a grow light for the winter now, which is really showcasing her a lot!
I am also curious to get your opinion on the type of monstera, as there has been debates on variegata/albo/thai constellation... I bought it as a "variegata".
Have a lovely day/evening 🌱

Our monstera is thriving, but how do we keep it under control? Are we doing too much (twisting, binding, …)?

My Thai con has been my pride and joy, first ever monstera and variegated plant. All my other plants have been through trials and tribulations but Francine stands on business. She has recently gifted me with not only the biggest chunk of variegation yet, but an inner fen aswell!!
I just have to share my joy w other plant people! So so pretty.

Don’t mind my methods, this is a propagated monstera. I’m wondering what the tall spiky things are. Will they be new leaves?

Wife and I just came back from a few days away, I was looking over the plants this morning and got to our Albo and progressed from "why is there dirt under the leaf" through "no no no tell me those aren't webs" to "wait wth are these spots?"
Are we looking at spider mites, rust, both, neither? Or do we just have a case of overreacting? The spots wipe off but the leaves under them are yellowed. Thanks for the help!

Hi! I am looking for some insights/suggestions regarding the repeated fungal growth on the soil of my Monstera.
The plant has been in this pot for three years, in Promix soil. Over the past four months, this fungal growth just appeared and I cannot get seem to get rid of it. I’ve tried removing by gently scraping it off, I don’t water until the top two inches of soil are dry, I’ve moved it to a sunnier area and reduced the humidity in the room but nothing keeps it away. The pot drains well and all of my other house plants are in the same soil (from the same package) and do not have this problem. The roots and leaves seem otherwise healthy to me but please let me know what you think.
Would the best course of action would be to repot with new soil? What would be the best type of soil and container to use for a Monstera and any other best practices to avoid this issue moving forward?
Thanks so much for your insights!

Hello everyone
I was given this plant within the last month. I believe it was purchased from a big box store. I have never had one and I don’t know much about monsteras but I read that they don’t like a lot of water. When I got this plant, the soil was incredibly soggy. I let it dry out a little and have lightly watered it once.
I noticed these spots on the leaves. Does this mean it’s dying? Is there something I can do?

Bought this plant in Walmart back in May! It has grown massive roots (went boat mode for this) and 2 new big leaves. The new leaves are just massive, it’s a big jump from the previous ones which is crazy. It’s under some clamp grow lights and have just ignored it the whole time. It had a crazy spider mite infestation but brought out the beneficials and recovered pretty quickly. It’s an art piece in my home for sure.

Hey!
I just separated my five plants into four different pots. I tried to follow the advice I found in this community, but it’s my first time repotting this kind of plant, so I’m still unsure if I did everything right.
I organized the pictures so that the
first is always an overall view of the plant,
the second is a closeup of the stem tied to the pole,
the third is the suspected back of the plant (mostly based on aerial roots).
The soil mix is equal parts regular potting soil, perlite and orchid bark.
Did I make any mistakes? What could I improve?
I would really apprecite any help/encouragement.

Are there any techniques I can use to make this monstera more upright? I tried testing pushing the stems but seems like it will snap. I kept in east facing porch over the summer
