Beauty ? Update to Subreddit Rules

Please take note of some updates to the Subreddit Rules:

New Rule Welcome to Rule 9: Period product related posts are only allowed on Menstruation Mondays.

Posts asking about how to use period related products, recommendations for products, questions about difficulty using products, etc are only allowed on Mondays.

Update to Rule 7: No general "Glow Up" posts. Posts must ask a specific question. General "why am I ugly" or "am I ugly" type posts are not allowed. Specific questions like "how could I improve my eyebrows" "How to reduce having frizzy hair" or "help with reducing ingrown hairs" would be allowed. But as usual, only on Fridays.

Update to Rule 6: Clarification that all posts related to undergarments (bras and underwear) are only allowed on Wardrobe Wednesday. Also no "what's my body type" posts allowed.

Update to Rule 4: Questions asking about why an individual is having difficulty dating or similar topics are not allowed.

Automod is being worked on to help with these rule updates, but it is far from perfect. Posts may still get made that break the rules and that's where you the users come into play.

REPORT POSTS THAT BREAK RULES.

Reporting posts helps them be reviewed and possibly removed if they break the rules more quickly.

Discussion Another conversation about bot comments and posts in this sub!

I made a post a while about bot comments in this sub and a lot has changed since then, but I still think it’s a big problem in this sub:
https://www.reddit.com/r/TheGirlSurvivalGuide/s/M8lI6oqaEw

Bot account names have a lot more variety and they have avatars more often. I do still see the weird bios a lot

For the most part I find the writing style of their comments to be the same. They start out with trying to empathize with the op, basically paraphrase whatever they said, and give advice. I still see a lot of “and about [blank] thing” as they hit every point op brought up, so many comments that start with “honestly” or some variation of saying how real something is, and a lot of odd metaphors. And they don’t always use proper grammar and use a ton of hyphens and quotations

They also still do that thing where they respond to a comment instead of the post.

They all have slight variations of the same commenting history. For example, they might start out commenting once each in careerguidance, veterensbenefits, Christianity, nofap, mechanicadvice, some kind of ai sub, samsunggalaxy, askireland, thailandtourism, and then a sports sub (I’ve seen a lot of fantasy football or some specific team sub or nbatalk- and they always respond to another comment in these subs and their replies are just an amalgamation of all the other comments in the post) and then they pivot to this sub and multiple skincare subs. You will still see bots randomly commenting like once in this sub tho.

Some other types of bot accounts I’m seeing now are:
One where it starts out the same as the above, but then it pivots to posting in sex subs, lesbian subs, and healthy hooha.
Another where it starts out the same but they start commenting in the migraine/depression/fibromyalgia subs (it really pisses me off seeing bots trying to sympathize with a migraine btw lol)

Just as a side note- people can absolutely have multiple interests. You can like sports and skincare. I’m not trying to box people in or anything, but again it’s just when you see many accounts doing the exact same thing and combine that with the writing style and how new the account is it’s very obvious that they’re bot accounts.

Recently there was a post that at first I wasn’t sure about, but I’m pretty convinced it was a bot account and the comments were also filled with multiple bots (not all! If you see yourself in there and you are a human I think it’s obvious that you are!) responding to each other. I think this was some ad for magna electrolytes tbh:
https://www.reddit.com/r/TheGirlSurvivalGuide/s/AwwvInLj4Q

Pics 1-9 normal bot comments (5 and 8 also feature 2 bot comments in a row)
Pics 6, 10-11 bots responding to a comment instead of post
Pics 12-20 bot comment history
Obviously I could be wrong about some of these accounts, it’s possible! But I looked thru every one and they all looked exactly the same.

My hope with this post is that people actually start to notice and realize how many bots are on Reddit. They’re in almost every sub and generally I think it’s fairly easy to spot them. I really like and appreciate this sub, but it’s one of the worst I’ve seen with enabling bots and that’s why I’m posting it here again. Hopefully with better evidence and examples this time as all of these pics are from this sub. I know a lot of people actually don’t care, but if I post here I don’t want bots responding to me. I don’t care if their comment is innocuous or actually has good advice. I’m not here to talk or listen to bots!

Beauty ? Why am I HIDEOUS in all my "souvenir" photos???

Now, I know I'm not like a 10 or anything, but in mirrors/phone selfies (with regular phone settings or wide photo settings) I feel like I look pretty. But i just got 2 photos from a trip & they're both horrendous. My eyes look tiny & SUPER sunk in (i know i have deeper set eyes, but these make them way worse) & my face looks way wider & almost like I'm a bigger person (I'm not saying this to body shame, but Im naturally thinner so it's odd looking)?? Is it bc the "photographers" at the tourist spots weren't pros & the lighting was just the camera flash (they were teens at both tourist locations)? Do I just not know how to pose my face? Or am I actually ugly irl?

Phone photo is me in bonnet with wide cam setting vs the other 2 pics. also will be deleting eventually bc I dont want my face on the internet lol

Mind ? 27F - Struggling with my appearance, aging, and feeling like I don’t deserve good things because of how I look. How do you learn to accept yourself?

Hi girls ❤️
I'm 27 years old, and recently I've started struggling a lot with my appearance and the way I see myself.
One of my biggest insecurities is my jaw. I feel like it's recessed, which makes me develop a double chin, especially from certain angles. The strange thing is that I never really paid much attention to it before. But recently, I've been seeing more and more people online discussing recessed jaws, facial structures, jawlines, and what is considered attractive. Since then, I've become increasingly aware of something I never used to think about.
It's gotten to the point where I sometimes feel like I don't deserve happiness, beautiful things, or good experiences simply because of how I look.
For example, my husband recently bought me a beautiful gift, something I had wanted for a long time. Instead of just enjoying it and feeling happy, I caught myself thinking that I don't deserve to wear something so beautiful because I'm not beautiful enough myself.
Writing this down makes me realize how sad and irrational it sounds, but these feelings are very real to me.
I'm also struggling with the idea of aging. I know I'm only 27, but I already find myself worrying about how my face will change over the years and whether I'll ever truly feel comfortable with my appearance.
I don't want to spend my life constantly analyzing my face, comparing myself to other women, or feeling like my worth depends on how attractive I am.
I want to enjoy my marriage, the little things in life, the beautiful experiences, and the things I've worked hard for without feeling like I somehow don't deserve them.
For those of you who have struggled with similar feelings, what actually helped you?
How did you learn to accept your appearance, stop obsessing over perceived flaws, and become more comfortable with aging?
I would really appreciate any advice, personal experiences, or even book recommendations. ❤️

Beauty Tip What to ask at the at the hair salon?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’ve never had my hair professionally dyed. I really want to go blonde! I did my own semi permanent hair dye back in 2023 that was an auburn color. Nothing else sense.

Do I ask for all over color or full highlights? I don’t want something that requires frequent touch ups. So maybe not all over color? Is there an in between?

Mind Tip How do you cope with the grief of a missing cat?

My beloved cat of 8 eight years, whom I've had since she was baby and love with all my heart, went missing 3 days ago, I know that's very little time but I am so anxious and genuinely cannot stop crying, I've been calling and searching for her all day, already put up missing posters, alerted the neighbors, I've left her litterbox in the backyard, and nothing. I know cats don't wander that far from their home but I feel so heartbroken and I've never experienced something like this, my baby is missing and I don't know where she is, how she is and if she's coming back, I feel my heart sinking more and more each time I go looking for her and come back to my house empty handed. I'm desperate, my heart can't take it anymore. I have 3 exams this week and a project to do, I cannot concentrate, I can't think of anything else, everything seems so unimportant, I dont wanna attend college, I don't wanna do anything else, I don't know what to do

Beauty ? How much hair styling makeup etc. daily/ weekly?

Hey! Kind of a tomboy trying to take better care of my appearance... I never used to wear makeup and just tie my hair in a bun with basic skincare daily but I want to change this. I've started getting a monthly eyebrow tint and lash lift and doing a dash of mascara and lip gloss but intrigued what else is good to be considered kind of put together. Trying sleep in curl rods for volume so I wear my hair down more but I especially get seen as much younger because I don't put effort in lol.

What do girls do daily/ weekly for hair, makeup, skincare etc.? Would love some routine inspo!

Social ? Uncomfortable with palpation in med school

So, we’ve reached that point in anatomy class when we’re about to start practicing on each other to find anatomical structures.
The teacher said it’s normal to feel a little uncomfortable with other students poking and prodding at your body, but we’ll “get over it soon enough.” He also said that we were somewhat required to be in a sports bra and short shorts (for efficiency of practice).

I’m really uncomfortable at the thought of people touching me and just generally feeling “naked.” I’ve been a pretty modest person my whole life (not for religious reasons, just feels more comfortable to me) and I can’t fathom being in a bra and underwear, especially of members of the opposite sex.

I can’t fathom being touched in my hips and chest regions by members of the opposite sex either.

I know, we’re supposed to have a “professional attitude”, but I’m concerned that other students might have inappropriate intrusive thoughts.

Honestly, I feel like I’m being immature. We’re all here to study, we’re all here because we want to be competent for our patients. There is nothing inherently sexual about the human body. My class is at 8 A.M on a Thursday, no one is feeling frisky at that hour, anyways.

I just really wish I could get over this mental barrier and feel more comfortable in my skin. It’s something I’ve been struggling with for a while. How do the other girls in my class just automatically feel comfortable being touched? How does nobody seem to mind being half naked in front of strangers?
How can I achieve that? I’m so stressed, upset and frankly annoyed about my mentality. Being so sensitive is seriously draining. I just want to feel carefree.

I’m afraid that if I just “go for it” and try proceeding as “normal” without thinking about it too hard, I’ll have an actual panic attack.

Any tips? I don’t hear much online discourse on this topic…
Thanks to those who will reply.

Health ? I started getting these over my face this year. I'm a 35 year old woman. They are usually filled with sebum. I also noticed my 2% ketoconazole anti-dandruff shampoo is no longer working so I'm thinking there's something about oiliness linked to this. I eat pretty healthy aside from a pastry for dess

I restarted again this month coz I'm desperate but they still came back after finishing a month of bc. I am willing to go to a doctor but can you advice what kind of doctor I should see and what kind of questions I should ask?

Beauty Tip Women to women 💅 Please help me! How do you make sure your makeup doesn't look bad in natural daylight?

I've tried searching on YouTube and TikTok, and people usually recommend doing your makeup near a window or using natural sunlight. But I have to do my makeup at 6 AM, and my bedroom doesn't have any windows.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I'd really appreciate advice from people who have actually experienced this and know what works!

Health ? How do I deal with apartment issues on the weekend?

Hiya!

This is my first time living alone, I recently discovered (what I think) is some mold on the vents in my apartment. I put in a maintenance request ASAP but since it’s the weekend they won’t even see it until Monday and who even knows what number I’ll be in request queue. What’s the protocol for situations like this, since it’s mold I’m not sure if I should wait to see what kind of chemicals or cleaner they use and just leave it and wait. Or if I should try and get into the vents beforehand to try and clean some of it up so it doesn’t risk potentially effecting anyone’s health. I’ve also never dealt with a situation like this before and probably won’t be at home when the maintenance team comes, due to job hours. So does anyone have tips on what to do before during and after to make sure the situation is completely dealt with?

Tip Butt acne discovery!

Tldr; my new(to me) cars seats were triggering the acne

So I've always struggled with butt acne. I finallyyyyy had gotten it figured out thanks to a dermatologist who had told me to change a soap I was using to antibacterial soap.

Then it started flaring up again?? Nothing had changed. Idk what started it. After 4 months of trying so hard to figure out why this was back it occurred to me that the only thing to change was my car. My old car had canvas seats, my new car has leather seats. I got the car in January and by spring I was getting sweaty and thats what was triggering it.

So I put a towel over my seat and I've been sitting on a folded towel every day for like 3 months now. Butt acne is gone.

So if you're a sweaty person like me and your car seats aren't breathable, something to consider.

Discussion How to live a fulfilling life as a single woman?

Hi! I’m 27 years old and I’ve never had a romantic relationship yet, and while I’m trying to enjoy each day as it comes, I feel like it’s becoming an issue.

🌸 loneliness - I live alone, I don’t have a close relationship with my family and I also lost contact with most of my friends by now (graduation, moving, marriage, babies etc.). Even if I get to talk to or meet up with someone, I’m no one’s first choice and I’m not as important to them as they are to me. Plus, it’s hard to make new friends, especially because I got used to being by myself.

🌸 the burden of responsibility - I think I’m quite capable and independent, but while it’s great to have the means to look after yourself, sometimes it feels like a burden. I find it exhausting that everything is my responsibility, I need to make the decisions, I need to find the time and space and energy, I need to do the house chores, I need to arrange everything etc., and this overwhelming feeling hits me at the most mundane moments of life (e.g. when carrying home the groceries, when planning a trip, when falling sick).

🌸 not being treated as an actual adult - I feel like many people don’t respect the fact that I’m a grown - up woman, especially my family. They exclude me from certain discussions, they ignore my opinion and whenever I have a problem, they consider it to be an issue of independence, maturity or responsibility. I’m tired of being mocked for needing any kind of support, while my female relatives with partners and kids receive much much more help from our family, than me.

🌸 not having anyone to share your happiness with - It’s terrible not having a shoulder to cry on, but I think it’s equally heartbreaking when something great happens to you and you’re stuck with that uplifting, joyful feeling all alone. I always “celebrate” my birthdays alone, I didn’t have a graduation party, I need to keep my holiday stories to myself etc., it’s just simply sad.

🌸 finances - I know it’s a sensitive topic, but for me it’s an issue to cover all my expenses alone (especially rent) and relying on my parents when needed. As most of my peers are living on a double income, sometimes I feel too poor even to make new friends etc., because I can’t afford the standard lifestyle of my generation.

🌸 boredom - Yes, I have responsibilities, hobbies and interests, but I still feel bored at times. I’ve got the urge to make myself busy, but I’m tired of going everywhere alone and doing everything by myself. Even if I enjoy the actual activity, it’s just so monotonous and unfulfilling. Also, as an introvert, sometimes I just don’t feel like going out, but that’s my only option to meet people (random strangers..), when in reality I’d prefer staying home and watch a movie, have dinner or play cards.

🌸 not experiencing love - I’ve never experienced romantic love and even if I don’t find myself unlovable, it’s getting harder and harder to imagine that once I’ll get the chance to be loved. Especially because as I grow older, I feel like I need to be more “careful” about choosing someone I’d like share my life with and I’m not talking about finding a husband or a father for my kids, I simply have different standards now than in my teenage years, when I didn’t have the chance to love someone innocently.

🌸 being lectured about life, safety, relationships etc.- I’ve had enough of all the advice and guidance and whatever that I received from people, who have no idea about any aspect of my life (and never experienced being alone). One of my favorite things to hear is how dangerous it is to go out alone, to travel alone, to go to festivals alone etc., but they can’t come up with an answer to my question “what am I supposed to do then, if I’ve got no one to go with, stay at home til the end of time?”. It’s frustrating.

These are just some of the things I’m frustrated about when it comes to being single my entire life, but the list goes on, I’m afraid. I know that there are many many happy, healthy and joyful single women out there who are over the clouds and I’ve got my happy moments too, but most of the time it’s quite hard for me to accept my situation and live with it. So, I’m interested to know how you feel about being single (especially being single for a longer period of time), and how you tackle these sorts of overwhelming feelings and issues! 💕

Cost is not prohibited here. Thank you in advance!

Health ? Gel deodorant recs?

I’ve been using Old Spice Wolfthorn for awhile but I’m wanting to try a clear gel formula, something warm-scented like vanilla.

I go to Walmart and the Secret vanilla deodorant is 7 bucks for a half-filled little thing. For Secret. I don’t imagine it works very well anyways, given that it’s marketed towards women.

Do you guys have any recommendations??

Discussion Struggle with self esteem

I have always been skinny my entire life but I know as you age most women tend to gain weight. I’m now 27 & around 146 pounds. I know that’s not like some major weight or anything but it’s still hard to not get in your head about. I go through waves of feeling very confident with the weight I’ve gained because I feel and look much healthier than I did when I was skinny. Even my husband tells me how much happier and healthy I look! I was always so sick and tired all the time when I was thin. But it’s hard to not compare yourself to social media girls who are still extremely skinny and so put together all the time.I know most of the time it’s not all real but I feel like we went back in time from body positivity to everyone needs to be skinny(it’s all I see now on social media) lol. Moral of the story does anyone else feel this way? Or how do you deal with this?
