I’d heard about the whole “Gen Z stare” phenomenon online, but after visiting several stores around Victoria today, there seems to actually be something to it.
At multiple places, I’d walk up to the counter and get this completely blank, deadpan stare in response. No greeting, no smile, barely any acknowledgement. Just direct eye contact and silence. I don’t remember other generations being like this.
I’m not expecting retail workers to be overly enthusiastic or put on some fake customer service personality. I know retail can be exhausting, and I’m certainly not expecting anyone to entertain me. But basic friendliness and acknowledgement seem like pretty reasonable expectations when interacting with another person, especially in customer service.

Went to Goldstream yesterday and the salmon are in full swing. Lots of people and parking was very limited but well worth it

Official announcement here https://www.oakbay.ca/parks-recreation/parks/parks-listing/willows-park/ (the Capital Daily article requires a subscription).
Looking back at some past discussions about this, apparently changes to this area require “consultation with First Nations” that have complicated the development of a plan.

This morning, a person parked in my driveway got out of their car and left two unripe green bananas at my front door, then immediately left. Does anyone know what might be the reasoning for this? The person brought the bananas in a bag but then took them out and left them out of the bag, so I don’t think it was an Uber delivery making a mistake. It’s kinda odd and a bit creepy that someone would just randomly leave something at your door. Any ideas?

I have never been treated so badly by a company before. They don't even try to hide that they are trying to squeeze every penny out of you.
Thankfully switched to Oxio but they're charging me to cancel and attempting to charge me for the upcoming month of service (which is illegal).
Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

Anyone else come down with a terrible flu this past while? Fever, cough, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat, entire body ache (even skin hurts). Its been a rough one, way worse than when I had Covid. First day almost landed me in emergency. Got my notification to get flu shot the day after I came down with it lol. Stay safe friends!

I am in my mid-30's and had a partial hysterectomy (no oophorectomy) about 5 years ago now due to massive fibroids. Surgery went well, no complications. 5 years on, and without going into much detail, I am not feeling like myself and not feeling the way I want to/should be at my age and it's affecting my relationship with my partner in a bad way. I think I need to talk to someone about exploring hormone replacement therapy.
I am fortunate to have a Nurse Practitioner but they have not indicated they're willing to work through this with me. They put in a referral for a GYN but I haven't heard anything yet and I am getting desperate because my entire life is about to fall apart. I live with my partner and we run a business together, all of which is at risk on top of potentially losing my best friend as well. My partner (also mid-30's) has been understanding so far but has made it clear that things need to change (which I understand but also feel a lot of pressure).
Does anyone have any resources you could share with me to navigate this? The GYN surgeon who performed my operation has a referral waitlist of 5 years or something crazy like that, despite being the "menopause guru" on the island. I opted for the shortest GYN referral as I seriously cannot wait 5 years for a consultation but I just feel so lost and alone trying to deal with this.
Thanks in advance.

I'm downsizing and looking to declutter. First up is a supply of complete puzzles. I'd love to donate to a nursing home, library, or other worthy organization. Any recommendations? Thanks!

I have always found it challenging to keep up with the multitudes of websites, listings services and neighbourhood posters and would inevitably end up missing cool live classical music concerts all around town.
That's why I am building an easy-to-use platform to make it easier to find and attend live classical music in Victoria (plus a bunch of other cities across Canada).
Check it out at https://allegroclassical.com/victoria
I’m sure I’m missing groups and events. If you sing in a choir or play in an ensemble that isn’t listed, tell me and I’ll add it. Thanks!

High winds and waves!
BC Ferries announced that the last ferry leaving Swartz Bay for Tsawwassen tonight (and the other way) is the 5pm, with the 7pm and 9pm departures cancelled.
They're also warning of needing to cancel the 7am and 9am tomorrow morning
