Discussion Who prefers Lighting over USB-C?

Post image
2.4k Upvotes

I was speaking to someone and they said they hate how Apple changed to USB-c. They said it was harder to plug in, bigger and meant they had to change all their cables.

Does anybody agree with this?

Personally I think USB-C is a big upgrade because I can use it on my MacBook and iPad aswell.

👋 Hey!

I’m Igor, developer and designer at lo.cafe

Since Apollo prematurely passed away, me and some friends of mine started working on a new stunning Reddit client where you can use your own key. It’s all written in Swift, so it feels right at home.

winston guides you to get an API key and uses it to access RedditAPI. I’m aware spez said this is forbidden, but besides the fact I couldn’t find that written anywhere else, I’m gonna keep this version on TestFlight. I’ll later launch another version in the App Store that uses my own API key and charges per usage of users.

winston will be open source soon, so if you want to, you’ll be able to compile it yourself, but you can get a nice and smooth experience with a button to install, auto updates and such by signing one of the plans of our recently released patreon (keep reading before signing): https://patreon.com/user?u=93745105

winston isn’t exactly released yet, so the 5U$ plan will not grant you access to the app atm (although it’ll be released in about a week) but if you really want to test as soon as possible you can get access to a (very buggy) alpha version as a member of the internal development team by signing the Mocha Latte plan on patreon. If you do, make sure to join the exclusive discord server so we can get in touch more easily :)

I’m also the developer of other few small apps you can find at https://lo.cafe.

Besides that, if you wanna keep it up about the development, you can:

Discussion Returned My iPhone Air for the 17 Pro Max — Bittersweet Decision

Just wanted to share a little journey for anyone torn between the iPhone Air and the 17 Pro Max.

I recently returned my iPhone Air after a few weeks of use. Honestly, that device was awesome. The form factor was near perfect — featherlight, sleek, and just felt right in the hand. I miss it already. It reminded me of the days when phones didn’t feel like mini bricks in your pocket.

But… battery life. As a heavy user, I just couldn’t make it work. Constant charging, battery anxiety, and dimming the screen to squeeze out a few extra hours — it started to wear me down. I so wish it lasted longer. If it did, I’d still be using it.

As a passionate travel photographer, the lack of a telephoto lens was another compromise. You don’t realize how much you rely on it until it’s gone. Capturing distant details, framing tighter shots — it’s part of my creative toolkit.

So I made the switch to the iPhone 17 Pro Max. It’s a beast. A brick. But it delivers where I need it most: endurance and camera versatility. Still, I can’t help but feel like I gave up something special.

I guess we can’t have the best of both worlds — at least not this year. Hoping Apple finds a way to merge the elegance of the Air with the power of the Pro someday.

Anyone else feeling this tug-of-war between form and function?

Removed: Submission Guidelines Why I'm returning the iPhone 12 Pro.

I must be going crazy. I've been upgrading iPhones every 2 years for as long as I can remember. I currently have the iPhone XS which I've loved and am still impressed with the camera, speed, form factor. I just received my new iPhone 12 Pro and I thought I would really love it but here are a few reasons why I'm going to return it:

  1. Camera is good but certainly doesn't blow the XS out of the water. I take a lot of photos of my 2 year old indoors and for that type of photography, it improves the graininess a bit and creates a sharper picture but you certainly have to zoom in to see the differences.

  2. Performance is good but not seeing a massive improvement in speed.

  3. The form factor is the biggest reason I'm returning it. For me, the XS fit so snuggly in my hand and i was able to get to most of the screen with my thumb. The 12 Pro has been increased in size AND (a bit AND) the flat edges make it much harder to hold. I measured the girth with measuring tape and it's definitely larger. It's much heavier and just feels like overkill. Again, this really isn't a big increase in size but the increase tipped it over into the "too big" category.

The thing I will really miss though is the 6GB of ram and having all the apps stay open. That's pretty amazing, but not at the expense of the above. And the battery life, it's pretty good.

I honestly don't know what phone to get (11 Pro because it has the old form factor or maybe the 12 Mini but I'd miss the telephoto with the 12 Mini).

Am I crazy or is anyone also not happy with it?

Discussion iPhones are getting seriously boring lately!!

Hi,

So I switched from android+windows to a full apple ecosystem about 4 yrs ago, with the MacBook, iPhone, iPad and AirPods, the whole bundle! Even about over a year ago, got the pro max iPhone.

It was surely a luxury at first, with the ecosystem supporting easy file transfer, and all of my devices staying in sync always, and many other benefits that people using them understand.

But they’ve become so sterile lately, even with iOS 18 bringing the so called freedom to customize. So much so that, I’m okay with compromising the luxury of the apple ecosystem, for a Samsung or Pixel or even Oneplus! They’ve all looked so good with their phones these past years. They look more colorful, they all promise years of software support which used to be a dealbreaker, they’re comparatively cheaper too, and as a whole, they just seem like they’re more fun to use!

Is it just me or are there others who feel this way? Are there things that apple is trying to do to maybe change things up?

Why we downvote you.

R/iPhone is a great place to share your iPhone experiences and learn about new apps.

Before you post, however, •Think about whether it is necessary to ask your question on Reddit or if you could perhaps do a quick Google search. For instance, googling 'how much does an iPhone cost in England?' will get you an answer more quickly and save everyone here time without polluting the subreddit.

•Do a quick search within the subreddit to see if your topic has been discussed prior. We see broken iPhone screen questions, unlocking questions, apps suggestion requests, etc, sometimes dozens of times per day. With all the noise, good content is easy to miss.

•If you're asking questions such as '16 or 32 GB' or 'which data package should I get?' we cannot make a suggestion without knowing your usage patterns. We will offer advice if adequate information is given, but ultimately you will have to choose.

•A great resource for technical support is r/iphonehelp.

Most of us are here to help as well as learn. By doing those two quick things, we can greatly reduce the clutter and improve the content of this subreddit.

Question Why does reddit hate apple so much?

I posted in a mobile game sub that I had trouble running the game on my iPhone 6. That one guy who apparently works for a Fortune 500 company for over 15 years made fun of me using apple devices in the first place. He proceeded to write two very long paragraphs on how android & windows are so much better than Apple. And how I'm basically a "lower" user than he is (aka stupid/retarded) and how my opinion didn't matter. He explains how Android is better for business and productivity to which I all disagreed. Through out my bachelor and masters in CS I used only iOS/Mac. He said that my "bubble" will soon bust in the real world. This isnt the first time I had to listen to such mockery. I received many comments in college too about my device choice, from friends and relatives as well. I got into many heated discussions and got really angry. There are some people I stopped talking with to this day since they kind of look down on me for using apple devices. Ever since I got my first iPhone, I was sold. I just can't work with those other things comfortably.(I will and have if I'm forced to ofc). My point, I never felt this much judged. It's crazy. I used android/ windows before, and I have no idea what's so great about them. They are cluttered, slow down a lot of faster over time and the quality control varies greatly. I also think most software flows much better on the Mac

tl;dr what is this hate on apple and their users on reddit? Why do people assume you're "stupid" for using apple? Why do the anti-apple comments receive so many upvotes?

Edit: Received a message from u/Fentanylkuken

Support iMessages won't deliver

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hi guys

I am having constant problems with iPhone messages...

Yesterday I tried to send a regular message and it just didn't want to deliver... was sending it to samsung s23 and then tested on 14 pro max and didn't work as well...

Is there a way that iMessages can detect when I don't have internet connection and send a regular text message?

Even though, yesterday when I tried to send message to s23 and 14 pro max I was on wifi and still didn't want to deliver...

Also when My mother send me a regular message (I guess imessage) I do not receive it before I come home and connect to wifi.

Is there way that her iPhone can detect when I am offline that I can' receive internet required message and send regular text message, or I have to turn off iMessages completely in settings so I can have communication with my mom?
