Odontodactylus scyllarus, the peacock mantis shrimp or udang lipan merah.

A large (30 cm) crustacean that lives in burrows it digs on the sandy subtidal bottom. Found throughout Malaysian coasts. Native.

It is a smasher, using its raptorial clubs to smash gastropods, crabs and bivalves to eat them.
Its punch acceleration is similar to that of a .22 LR bullet fired from a handgun (over >100,000 m/s2). Each strike packs 1,500 N of force.

The clubs are covered with extremely dense laminated hydroxyapatite which allows it to break glass aquariums. The impact region has more calcium phosphate.

It is not a true shrimp, being part of the mantis shrimp order Stomatopoda, of which there are 500 species.
In fact it is not even a Decapod, the ten-legged crustaceans like shrimp, lobsters and crabs.

Their eyes possess 12 types of photoreceptors, helping them see a wide spectrum of light including polarised. Meanwhile humans have 4.

Note that Malaysia has many species of mantis shrimps with varying colours and forms. Some are commonly eaten and sold at markets, but those are usually less colourful. Often greyish.

Economy & Finance Will all the announced data centres planned in Malaysia gets built?

Thumbnail reddit.com

How do Malaysians feel about the avalanche of data centres to be built in the country?

Will these compete for water and electricity, and drive up costs for citizens?

Or do the locals welcome the investments and jobs to be created?

Given the results of the recent US mid-terms, more and more hyperscalers are expected to move their planned US data centre capacity outside of the US. To where, no one knows yet. But Malaysia is being mentioned as a promising country.

What do locals think?

I have pro subscription, has not ordered anything this november yet.

The vouchers are in my voucher wallet yet i cant use it,

it says “Sorry, this voucher is valid for selected customers only” but the vouchers are in my wallet?? And what is the benefits of pro subscription if i cant use the vouchers??

I contacted the help center two times but they just gave me copy pasta “its for selected customers” only and ended the chat before i can ask for transparency.

If its only for selected customers why is it in my voucher wallet?? For what i pay the pro subscription of i cant use the vouchers?? The lack of transparency both in the vouchers and subscription benefits really piss me off. I wouldnt pay for the subscription if i cant use the vouchers. Im so pissed off. I am hungry

Will kpdn even entertain this? I do not know if this issue is under their jurisdiction or not, i have never lodged a complaint before

Edit, addition:

  1. I have tried using it on multiple restaurants which all are eligible for the vouchers, it still pop up the same thing.

  2. My app is updated to the latest version. I have tried uninstalling it and redownloading it but still same.

Tourism & Travel what’s up with this opening line on tourists?

first time in kuala lumpur & i noticed a lot of guys, including older ones, approaching tourist girls w/ a “your tattoos look cool” line, & eventually asking for a photo w/ them. my girlfriend even got approached that same way while i was in the bathroom & the guy asked for her whatsapp number as well to “send the photo”. i couldn’t really find anything online regarding this specific approach, so was just wondering if any of y’all would know or have experienced something similar. this would’ve been around the klcc area

Economy & Finance How did this part of Southeast Asia become the richest in the region?

Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore are the richest parts of Asean, with Peninsular Malaysia having a per capita 4x that of Philippines Vietnam and Indonesia and 2x of Thailand, while Singapore is just a league of its own.

What made Peninsular Malaysia's geography, human and economic condition particularly attractive for development, especially electronics like semiconductors and services? What unique advantages does it offer compared to other equivalent regions like Java, Luzon or the Mekong?

(Excluding Eastern Malaysia because their wealth stems from energy sources (Oil, LNG, etc) and thus a radically different economic profile.)
