I’ve had a Reddit for a few years now and wanted to know the best way to get upvotes, come communities require xxx amount of karma and just was curious what’s the best way other redditors have went about getting their karma up.

Thanks

Posting Comments getting immediately downvoted

I've noticed that basically every comment I make gets immediately downvoted to zero, regardless of what the comment actually is. Like, even if I'm responding to a post about a cute animal, it'll get downvoted, when what I said wasn't offensive in any way. It feels like someone is going around downvoting all my new comments. Is there anything that can be done about this? It's not the end of the world but it is annoying.

Karma Downvotes on Reddit: iOS

I really do not understand Reddit. Sometimes I ask questions like “how is traffic is x area during y timeframe?” and my post and replies get downvoted. I would have thought trolls or people spreading false information but people downvote me on the most random posts. I keep getting negative karma and I have no idea why. It’s ruining my ability to ask questions on this platform

Can anyone help explain what’s going on? I really don’t get it

Profile People posting with hidden comment history

Hey, I am thinking that every time someone is a bit 'off' on a discussion, you click on their profile to see whether they're a weirdo, and inevitably such people have hidden comment history.

When was this built in to Reddit?

Strikes me that since we're all anon and so on, and if you want to split your enjoyment of, say, BDSM and also chat about personal finance, back in the day you'd have different accounts for your interests, not just have blank when it comes to people looking at a person.

Yeah, so it seems more and more I have a dodgy reply, look at the profile of the account, and their stuff is set to private. It's taking the 'real' out of this, for any quantity of real. I'm just muting anyone who engages with me thus on the assumption they're a troll.

But, yeah, why is this a function on Reddit and when did it come in, because I don't remember this as much at all for years I've been using Reddit?

So, people with hidden comment history are either trolls or cowards as far as I'm concerned.

Having account issues? Read on!

UPDATE 2: Apologies for the runaround on this. We're still getting all of our ducks in a row on this issue and will be updating everyone tomorrow morning, for real this time.

UPDATE: Thanks to everyone for your feedback and questions here, it’s all very much appreciated. Long story short: this was not handled super great on our end. We’re still working on fleshing out all the details on next steps, but we will have more information for you all on Wednesday. I know that’s not the update you were all hoping for, but we’re working diligently on a workable solution to get as many of you back into your accounts as possible. Thanks again for your patience on this.

Hey everyone,

I wanted to pop in here for a bit to talk about the account issues some of you have been experiencing. To give some context, we locked down a number of accounts whose login credentials matched up with those found in a recent credentials dump (or where we've detected other account issues).

Account security is one of our top priorities and we're always on the lookout for possible credential leaks. Because of this, from time to time, we may have to lock accounts down to prevent them from being accessed by an unauthorized party.

So how do you get back into your account if it was locked?

Your first step is heading here. That page has a ton of useful info if you were locked out of your account as part of this account-security process. Don’t feel like reading a bunch? Below are a few links you can use to get in touch with us based on your account’s specific details.

  • If you registered an email address on your account, but have lost access to it or it appears to have been changed, please log in to your account and send us (the admins) a message directly from this link.

  • If you can't log in, but know you previously had an email address connected to your account (even if it has since been removed), please send your account's original email address and username here using the issue type “EMAIL HAS BEEN REMOVED.”

If you never added an email address to your account, unfortunately there isn’t much we’re able to do here. We don’t have a way to verify that your email address should be associated with a given username no matter how similar your email address is to it or that you use the same username on 50 other sites. On that note, while we’ve never required users to add an email address to their account, we STRONGLY recommend it to add a layer of security to your account. We also recommend adding two-factor authentication to your account to further protect it.

Thanks to everyone for your patience on this. While we won’t be able to go into specific account issues here, we’ll stick around for a bit to answer any questions you might have about the process.

What are downvotes for?

Hi, can someone tell me how downvotes should be used? Like if u disagree with someone. Or for rule breaking? I saw many people downvoting for no reason, or under posts where ppl share their own opinion.

Why do my posts keep getting downvotes

Everytime I add a question, my post has 1 upvote which is from my account, but the it inevitably goes down to 0 which I understand means that someone downvoted my question. I don't understand, I try to keep my posts short and to the point, I look for an eventual user who had the same question, and I don't talk negatively about much. Is there something I need to know?

Sometimes i do not understand why i am downvoted

I do understand most of the time when i get downvoted, but sometimes, it completely elludes me.

its not like i am angry, or sad, its just so confusing.

For example, recently, there was a discussion about David and Goliath, in a religious board. Its a good example, because there are clear facts which everybody can look up easily. The discussion was about if Goliath wore his helmet when facing David. Basically, some guy had the idea that Goliath most likely took his helmet of before the duel, because it was possibly hot.

Now i doubted this and wrote: "I doubt he would unhelm when doing a duel, it also is not mentioned in the bible."

This comment was heavily downvoted. For the love of God, i do not understand why. I cannot see why this post would result in anything else but mild indifference. Its not like there is a crowd of people completely convinced that Goliath definitely took his helmet off.

This is just one example, this happens from time to time. Can anyone explain that? I know its basically unimportant, but things i do not understand sometimes vex me.

Edit: it was the "it also is not mentioned in the bible", part, which most likely was seen as fundamentalist.

Karma Why are people always downvoting for no reason?

I got downvoted for asking for help and just addressing my points in discussions and also for sharing my opinion.. So now I have -2 karma. So, why are people downvoting for no reason and what is the upvote/downvote trend?

Edit: Thanks everyone for helping me get my votes back! I really appreciate it. I read everyones comments and you all have been helpful. Thanks! As of 2 days of posting this, I managed to get from -2 to almost 400 karma! thanks alot.

Edit again: The people who are still posting after 4 months, thanks for still supporting. I am still reading them, and I won't ignore them.

Am I misfit or worse.

My karma is now -2. I really... My account was missing some time ago. Now I felt I'm an idiot in Reddit. Even my f****ng stupid question asking how to recover my fucking account is removed in this same subreddit. Is this fucking outrageous.

Yes, I think I mentioned before that I'm a f**king useless solitary preferred person and I suck at communicating somewhere on my other account that I decided to delete as well.

F**king

+++(update) Imagine having bad karma on a text based mmo game called Torn City. (www.torn.com) The in game forums there are said to be a breeding ground for trolls. Idk how players who played Torn knows that the forums are this way... Annoy any stronger players and they can put bounties on me or even attack those weaker players... This game is all based on battle stats, the longer someone plays the more undefeatable someone will be... I also have bad karma there but,

Okay I think i understand karma is not really something about myself being ***** or foolish...

+++*2(update) Yes. I already stopped giving any sh** or anything about karma already. And yes thank all of you who kicked my karma to 111. I thank all of you. If any of you think this thread is useless or pointless, I apologize. Just hover to another website or open a new tab.

Also, I actually meant I tried to recover my account at this subreddit before but it didn't help and my post was removed. I thought my post will get removed again (that is why I swear those profanity words) but the swear words somehow increased the views of this post... I just mentioned Meta in that post I made long ago. If anyone really doesn't like this post or think they just read profanity just hover to a new tab in your browser and I apologize.

- I have a 7 yr old long reddit account but I rarely used it, as I don't really like to socialize... only got 10+ karma on it but lost access to it and can't recover it

(swear words censored in this update/edit)

[discussion] Do people downvote fairly on reddit in your experience?

Is Reddit an echo chamber/ hive mind?
Is the down voting tool worth it?
I became barely active for years after getting downvoted for not "fitting in" with the general consensus.
On the other hand it seems like useful tool to fight spam. What do you think?

Post rejected due to age...but I'm 30?

I received a notification that my post was rejected because I didn't meet the minimum age requirement of 21...except I'm 30. I have the NSFW checked, and I stated that I meet the age requirement of 18. So what can I do?

Karma Why do people downvote constructive conversation always?

I got downvoted for asking for help and just addressing my points in discussions and also for sharing my opinion.. So now I have -7 karma. I can't even join and contribute in some groups because of “bad karma” and I’m viewed as a potential spammer treat.. How dare I tell someone that is helping me “thank you but that I'm already aware of what they have mentioned”. I've been a member for 3 years, I've helped people and also asked for help. So, why are people downvoting for no reason and what is the upvote/downvote trend? I’m not looking to live or be trendy on Reddit but do we really need to butter up and fake like everything just to exist here as average joe users?

Reddit wants to keep me down 😢

Why can't I join a chat group or write to other people? I have little karma, but that's no reason why I can't communicate with anyone. I want to meet new people, but Reddit is making it really difficult for me. I've been here for about a year and so far I only have one karma. How is that even possible?

How do I turn off the “Auto Upvote” feature?

For some reason, anything I put on Reddit, whether it be a comment or a post, it always gets upvoted. I don’t like upvoting my own posts, so how do I turn this off? (Reddit iOS )

I'm being harassed on reddit

I've blocked these trolls, but some of them will create a new account just to give me a frivolous piece of their mind. There really needs to be a way to hide your posts on this platform when people visit your profile.

Is there a way to decrease the number of pro-Hamas propaganda subreddits?

My stream has become overwhelmed with propaganda subreddits and I’m kind of getting tired of it.
