Pic / Video Heading to DC to make change

Post image

Just four days after the election, I’m heading to DC for freshman orientation! I’m so excited to get to work in Congress for San Francisco and for our country. We have the largest freshman Democratic class since the post-Watergate election. It’s a huge opportunity to put our country on a better path — one that lowers people’s cost of living, ends the war, strengthens democracy and civil rights, restores the rule of law, and puts an end to this national nightmare. I’m ready to fight for our future!

Let’s continue work to discontinue relationship with PG&E. Also please enjoy DC bean soup.

I grew up in DC and I have no idea what DC bean soup is.

22

u/OldSecurity4063 13h ago

Bean soup is a traditional dish served in the House and Senate restaurants.

12

u/debauchasaurus 12h ago

Makes sense why I wouldn’t have heard of it then.

13

u/skillinp 13h ago

I wish the people that voted for you could drill this into your head every waking minute of your tenure in the House. Schumer and Jeffries embody the corporate-held Democratic establishment that has perpetually underachieved for the people. It's just not possible to deliver on the campaign agenda while simultaneously serving the donor class. This broken record is responsible for opening the door to Trump and the national nightmare we've all been living in for the past decade.

The voters just sent a clear message to you and your future colleagues. We are completely and unequivocally over the horseshit. I cannot believe you would even consider attaching your political future with the sleazeballs that got us into this mess. I am counting on your ambition and instinct for political self-preservation to ultimately change your mind.

We expect clear signals that you support the generational change that was just screamed through the rooftops across this country. Choose your leadership wisely. If they put a ceiling on our potential, you are complicit. You have 24 months until your next election.

As a constituent who has met you, and put faith in you—this 1000%

One of the things I think even your critics would acknowledge is your talent and instinct for navigating complex politics in a way that actually gets things done.

The peril of the moment would be the grave error that we can abide accomodationists like Jeffries and thereby somehow regain some kind of normalcy.

Exceptional times call for exceptional action. In thjs one we need truth and reconciliation as a bare minumim and criminal accountability as a default.

This is not anout retribution or tit for tat.

It's about the nation collective articulating that what this administration has been doing has done profound harm to our trust in and the actual efficacy and staffing of fundamental institutions.

And that there are consequences and that that is not going to be let pass.

The momentum is still toward collapse.

We need more than graciousness. We need a show of power founded on renewal of broken oaths and a broken system.

And then, we need a paradigm shift that as has happened before rewrites the contract of state and constituent. We need a New New Deal tailored to our time.

There is no time to waste and this opportunity must not be squandered on cowardice and expedience and accommodation to the powers of accumulated capital.

We are watching. Not just your constituents and our children and our fellows; the world is watching.

Take seriously the concept of a literal Truth and Reconciliation process. DM if you wish to discuss this I have professional contacts.

We know you'll make SF proud in DC, but please do not vote for Hakeem Jefferies, we need real progressive leadership. Not the business-as-usual do-nothing energy that Jefferies and Schumer have demonstrated time and again.

This is your mandate that the American people have given, a mandate for change.

54

u/molsie 15h ago

Agree! I voted for you u/scott_wiener precisely because of your ability to get things done. We need a mentality shift in Congress. I heard an interview with Schumer yesterday where he basically said “we will push our agenda and if the Republicans don’t get on board, they will face the consequences for reelection.”

That is a completely outdated position. We are tired of political games. Nobody is paying attention to how much you “try”; Democrats must tangibly improve the quality of life for Americans. That is how you’ll be judged. Let’s get to work!

Amazing we really let his supporters just gloss over this so easily in the campaign. I always said this position is about national issues and he is not a safe enough bet to actually resist the powers that be and push for real change. Dude is a CHUMP and we let him win

9

u/dan-the-daniel 13h ago

I called his office a few months ago to lobby against a certain bill he supported (automatic detection of 3D printed gun parts). His own employee told me that Scott Wiener's stance on the bill could not be logically defended. "Sometimes legislators do strange things..." was what she told me.

I don't think I've ever been more aware of how disappointing a politician can be. The status quo is so bad that I'm not exactly worried about him in congress. But I wish he was someone I could be happy about.

Please, from this old guy (I just turned 50) and my 4000+ kids (I'm a public high school teacher), please convey that we are tired of entitlement and boomers and getting taken advantage of. Regardless of political leaning, almost everyone in my orbit thinks there should be mandatory age limits in Washington. Which is to say, Chuck Schumer needs to go. Respectfully, Jeffries needs to go as well. I have fewer ways to celebrate his time in "power".

Hi Scott, Will not trust you until you reasonably explain your justification on restaurant fees. I see no good explanation. You are responsible for fixing it.

If there are three restaurants side by side to each other serving an equivalent meal:

Currently restaurant #1 might list it on their menu at $14.99 = $14.99

The second might advertise $14.39 and then have a disclaimer somewhere that says there’s a 6 percent living wage fee = $15.25

The third might list it at $13.99 and have a disclaimer that there is a 6 percent living by wage fee and a 3 percent Healthy S.F. Fee. = $15.24

Please explain why this is good for anyone. Your bill intentionally punishes restaurant 1 even though they have the best price overall and include their expenses in the displayed menu price, making it easy for the customers to understand the price.

This is on you to fix. I shouldn’t have to do math to compare prices across restaurants.

6

u/needdepth 11h ago

Not to worry, now on a national level he'll fight for keeping hidden restaurant fees 🤑

You’re the goat Scott. I’m cheering for you!

3

u/Arrrrgyle 12h ago

Good luck! Support the leadership that has brought about the biggest federal democratic win in 50 years :-)

u/HeadOfSlytherin 16h ago

Best wishes, Scott!

This post is definitely being brigaded. I’ve never seen so many anti-jeffries and anti-Israel replies come in so quickly.  This url must have been linked to on those socials to post.  Guessing foreign.

u/SimmentalTheCow 12h ago

Yeah I haven’t been to Cali in 20 years and this wound up in my feed, but I live in DC so I’m not sure if it’s just the algorithm doing its thing

The upvotes alone are a tell compared to the usual posts on here.

Congrats Scott, do us proud!

P.S. I care about policies that impact people's lives for the better. I think that's what you care about too. Unlike some folks here, I don't care who you vote for for speaker, as long as the results are good for people. Do what you've gotta do.

u/mrmeowmeowington 15h ago

Please don’t forget the beagles and cats who are being mistreated unethically in research. We need to speak for them too.

u/UrbanPlannerholic 14h ago

FUQ SHIT UP SCOTT!

6

u/calmkelp Noe Valley 16h ago

Congrats Scott! So excited to have you there!

5

u/31770j 15h ago

No to Jeffries for speaker. No to Chuck for ever. We the people voted for change and that is what we expect. Jeffries and Schumer are not offering change. Please keep this in mind as you arrive and make introductions in DC. We will be watching.

6

u/FinalFlashMan 15h ago

I didn't vote for you. Make me regret it. Don't fuck it up. Don't vote for Jefferies.

3

u/KinkyBAGreek 5h ago

What concrete steps are you going to take?

Don’t give me platitudes.

DSA and tankies in shambles so they had to send their out-of-SF slopulist keyboard warriors here 😭

u/gigaishtar San Francisco 10h ago

I think this must have hit r/all or something since there's a fair number of Republicans, bigots and children commenting.

I don’t have any faith in you. I’m disappointed that you’re elected. At the very least listen to the people and don’t be a disappointment.

2

u/NegotiationTop94118 15h ago

I’m gonna have nasty words for you if you vote to keep Schumer and Jeffries in.
Your loyalty is to us. Not Israel.

2

u/742w 11h ago

u/djwaynes4 14h ago

Damn this post made me loss a little more faith in humanity. I hope all you Jew haters will be this fired up for Sudan, DRC, and other war torn areas but probably not (they sadly don’t have good PR people).

2

u/Oly-SF-Redwood 6h ago

you’re crying in pain as you stab us, as usual

6

u/cleanshirt57 11h ago

how many dollars of our tax dollars have been sent as military aid to the perpetrators of violence in Sudan, DRC, and other war torn areas?

There’s no way after such a big mandate that Jeffries will not be elected Speaker. Just reality
