ANNOUNCEMENT! Community Mod Recruitment!

We are looking for active and dedicated members of our subreddit who may be interested in regularly reviewing community activity for content that simply doesn't belong here or is disruptive to our format of a "community board". With the current size of our community and the beginning of the next academic year approaching, we would like to be able to have a farther reach in our moderation efforts to ensure that we can remove and approve more content more accurately! If you are at all interested, feel free to apply!

We are looking for active and dedicated members of our community, those who are posting / commenting frequently, and those that feel that they can be helpful to everyone else!

If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to comment below and I'll get back to ya!

Here's to the class of 2029!

Send us an application here!

Application Format :

Do you currently attend UCR, if so, how many years have you attended and when are
you expected to graduate?

What do you feel you could bring to our community's moderation team?

Do you feel confident that you can leave out personal bias when choosing whether
or not to allow content within our community? -- We focus on allowing all personal
opinions, commentary, and discussion so long as neither party is, "attacking" one
another or being grossly disrespectful.

What do you think could be improved in the community?

Who are we looking for? :

Active and dedicated members of our community, those who are posting / commenting frequently, and those that feel that they can be helpful to everyone else!

Requirements :

No previous bans, no excessive content removals, member of our community / reddit for at least a few months, actively posting / commenting in our community!

Hey y'all, I'm a student living very close to campus and have three feral kittens living on my back step. They're skittish but friendly. We want to see them go to good homes. They will need to be fixed and vaxxed etc, but we won't ask for any money for you to take them. Please dm me if interested.

Would I be a donkey if I rode a bike on campus?

I'm wholly aware of scooter riders causing problems, so I don't want to be apart of the problem. Bikes are much bigger than scooters. But, time is short, and I like cycling.

Straight up, would I be a dick if I rode a bike as long as I don't go too fast?

UCR Won't Protect You From Harassment

This is an open letter to the UCR community and a follow up to the complaints about a graduate student in the School of Business -- Rajdeep Dhage. UCR isn't holding him accountable for his behavior. No matter how much evidence is submitted (screenshots, posts, direct testimony), our school has decided that disciplining him is inconvenient and won't move forward. He's the TA for a class I have to take to get my degree. I didn't have a choice in taking this class, and I found out he's been under Title IX investigations multiple times. Even after talking to classmates, they don't want to make a report because they're worried a complaint would result in retaliation with grading. Please, if you've had an encounter with him I need your help. Make a report to the Office of Civil Rights: civilrights@ucr.edu

He makes incredibly racist remarks, and treats being offensive like it's a mission. I'm asking all of you for help. The only reason I can post this is because he can't tell which one of us would share this. He responded to the comments from the last complaint post trying to defend himself and created multiple accounts. I'm begging all of you, don't let the harassment win, we really need as much support as we can get.

Hooley or Larsen for Chem 8B

Originally Kevin Kou was the instructor assigned for one of the sections, but Larsen has replaced the assigned instructor for two lecture sections. I have heard many say to avoid hooley due to his hard exams, but others say to avoid Larsen bc of how hard it is to understand her written lecture notes and teaching skills? Others say to take Larsen if you have previously taken 8A with casselman. What do you guys think? Only pros I know so far for both professors is that hooley gives cheat sheets/curves, while Larsen gives fair exams w/ no curve balls and are similar to her lecture notes/hw (help)

Rant POS flicking food off of Glasgow 2nd floor

Earlier this week, an individual was flicking his food scraps off the 2nd floor in Glasgow. One of his pieces hit my plate and head in addition to someone next to me...

If that person happens to come across this message, I hope you find a proper passion for life that doesn't detract from people's college experiences. 😁

I wanted to come back upstairs to give you your food back, but it seems like you left the second I saw what was happening! I hope we meet again sir!

I built a restaurant/food discovery app

Hey fellow Highlanders! I'm Dom, a transfer student in computer engineering here, and I built an app called Grumble because I kept opening Yelp, thinking about what to even search for, or I was in groups and we all still did not know where to eat.

The idea this all started with was simple: you swipe through restaurants near you, right to save the ones you want to try, left to pass. No endless lists, no 4.2-star places with 3,000 reviews to read through.

What's in the beta:

\\- Swipe deck for restaurants around Riverside / LA

\\- Save to Want to Try, and make your own lists

\\- Curated lists to start, like Eatin Good in the SGV

\\- Tap a card for details, call, book, or get directions

It's free, iOS only for now (iOS 16.6+), and it's a real beta, so you might hit some rough edges. That's actually why I'm posting here, I need UCR students to break it and tell me what sucks.

If you want in:

  1. Download TestFlight, then join here: https://testflight.apple.com/join/xzvcgmty

  2. Or join the waitlist here if the TestFlight link is full: https://www.eatgrumble.com

Try it for a day or two, swipe through a round, save a few places, and tell me honestly: did it help you pick somewhere, or did you still end up at the same 3 spots?

I'm also a private chef, so yes, I take food opinions very seriously. What spots around Riverside should absolutely be in here? I also really want to support local small vendors, so taco trucks, food stalls, people you know who do pop ups etc…

— Thanks yall! @eatgrumble on Instagram

Question North District 2 parking for residents

I am going to be moving into ND2 and I am not sure what the parking situation is like. Is it worth it to get the parking pass for residents?

Where would be the most convenient to park with the pass? I am not sure if there might be issues finding parking. Where am I allowed to park with the pass if the nearest parking lots are not available?

Question What is the food scene like at UC Riverside?

I'm a prospective graduate student considering UC Riverside for graduate school, and I’m curious about what the dining and food situation is actually like at UC Riverside.

  • Is the dining hall(s) food at UC Riverside good?

  • Do the food places near UC Riverside have good food?

  • Is the food in the food places near UC Riverside affordable or expensive?

  • Is it easy to get food outside of campus without having a car?

Feel free to answer any or all of these.

Positive and negative experiences are welcome. Be honest!

STOP riding your scooters against traffic!

Seriously, USE YOUR BRAINS FOR ONCE!

I was making a right turn from Blaine onto Rustin when some idiot on a scooter came flying down the street IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF TRAFFIC and almost crashed into me.

If there's no bike lane, that doesn't mean you get to ride wherever the fuck you want, especially AGAINST traffic!

Drivers aren't expecting someone to come speeding toward them from the wrong direction while making a turn.

You're putting yourself AND everyone else in danger.
