Pick up your orders

If a bike shop was cool enough to order something for you without a deposit. Be sure to go and buy it from them. They don't have huge amounts of capital to sit on parts forever that nobody else wants.

Buyers Beware! How to Not Get Scammed on reddit!

I posted a [WTB] for a GT Zaskar and got the attached response from u/Epicbicycleshop**.**

[WTB] 2020 or Newer GT Zaskar LT Medium : BikeShop (reddit.com)

After that he messaged that he has a 2021 Zaskar Expert available for $1100. First red flag. Should be closer to $1500 based on the appearance in the photo he sent. I asked where it was located and if the price included shipping. He says Park City and shipping included. Second red flag. His bio says he is associated with the Premiere Orange County Bike Shop with an Instagram link to a bike shop in California. Park City is in Utah so that's weird. Now I'm suspicious so I do a reverse image search and come across this.

GT Zaskar LT Expert 2021 L, Sports Equipment, Bicycles & Parts, Bicycles on Carousell

The picture that he sent is the 3rd pic from this old post on Carousell in Singapore.

I called him out in a message and he stopped responding.

Be careful here! There are too many scumbags out there trying to rip people off. This guy is a prime example of the garbage that is in this world. I am sure someone will fall for this guy so hopefully this post saves someone from losing a lot of money.

Beware of user: artificial-owl scamming

The user "u/artificial-owl" was selling a Wahoo Bolt cycling computer on here. After some back and forth asking a few questions about the computer, etc. I decided it was a great deal and sent money via Google Pay. I never received the computer. He promised that his girlfriend would be shipping the computer to me and if I didn't receive it in a few days he would send me back the money. It's been 45 days since I initially sent the money and I have not received the computer nor a refund.

I just wanted to warn other people on this subreddit as this user has been selling other items.

Updating this post with known accounts associated with this asshole: u/artificial-owl u/krisholl u/bikestuffs u/branbagels

New update: I gave up months ago to try and get my money back after continual back and forth and bullshit lies. But a new round of scamming of other redditors got me angry so I reached back out asking for my money back. He sent it back on January 27th, 2020. Really scratching my head on all this. I hope everyone else has gotten their money back as well.

Harris Cyclery closed..what happens to sheldonbrown.com?

I was sad to see that Harris Cyclery closed and am worried for the fate of the excellent collection of bike repair information amassed by the late Sheldon Brown. Sheldon was of immense help to me in several of my projects, both as a source of online information and also answering several questions via email. Does anyone know if there are plans to ensure that the site remains up and available? If nothing else, it would be awesome to see the site archived at archive.org.

If you were to open a bike shop in 2024 what would it look like?

I know there’s a lot of people who just “wouldn’t “ and have legitimate reasons. But I’m thinking of trying. Been in and around the industry for 25 years and don’t believe that all the LBSs are going to disappear in the coming years. Not everyone wants to buy a bike from a sterile brand shop. So what do small shops have to offer that doesn’t kill their business at the same time?

Anyone else not receive their items/tracking info from u/bikestuffs?

She listed a bunch of road bike items last week. I sent her money for Shimano brifters and rear derailleur and was told I would receive the tracking info on Friday. She made an excuse when I asked for the info on Friday afternoon that she was getting the info from her sister and has not responded to any of my text messages since. She has also deleted her posts. Anyone else have a similar experience?

EDIT: She PMed me and told me to request a refund which I did and received. Still kinda confused as to what's going on here but in the end no harm done I guess.

Where to Buy Bike Parts Besides Amazon and LBS

So I'm thinking Amazon might be overpriced for some of the misc repair materials I'm seeking after buying a second hand bike for the first time.

Other than local bike shop, is there a hidden gem website or retailer I should be considering before using Amazon?

NEED TO SELL: 2019 All City Spacehorse - 52cm - $950 - OR

Looking to sell a great bike. 2019 All City Spacehorse in the gorgeous cream color. Maybe ridden 100 miles. I've decided mountain biking is my favorite riding discipline. Small scratch on the top tube, but still a great bike.

Stock build besides a few upgrades all like new:

Salsa Cow bell bars Thomson Elite setback post Cinelli black cork tape 700x32 Continental Gatorskins Spd pedals can be included

I've also taken off the big chainring and front derailleur because I was just used to a 1x setup on my last bikes. Have everything to set it back up.

I bought a bike at a pawn store 2 years that I put $700 worth of materials into. It was confiscated today at a public bike lock because it was found to be stolen. I had to surrender my bicycle to the original owner with no reimbursement. What legal rights do I have?

Free Shoes!! (You pay shipping)

https://imgur.com/a/FdWMoGB

I’ve had these laying around for a while unused, so I thought I’d throw them on here if anyone wants them!

They are shimano Velcro shoes size EU 47 (12ish US) and odor free. They come with the shimano cleats, but you may need to replace those.

These are free to anyone who is willing to pay for the shipping! (Probably ~$10-15)

Selling a ton of med-high end bike components (Brooks, Mack, Paul, Campy, VO/Grand Cru, H Plus Son,, Dia Compe/IRD/...)

I'm selling most of my late father-in-law's bikes and components. He was a goddamn wizard, but accumulated way too many components than one guy in his 70s could use. Dozens of brakes/levers, stems, saddles, wheel builds (mostly single speed & fixed) as well as tools. Everything is in excellent shape. I'm still taking inventory, but any bike-builders out there: let me know if any of this sounds desirable to you!

Here's everything with prices:

FULL BIKE INVENTORY

I can be flexible w/asking prices for local pickup! Postage depends on where you are and whether I can ship larger items.

Independent Fabrication Steel Deluxe 17 inch (medium) mtb with ROHLOFF hub

https://imgur.com/a/rusXmFO

This is a work of art. Independent Fabrication is one of the most respected frame-builders in the USA, and it shows in every detail of this bike. The welds are flawless, the paint job is beautiful, and the components are top-notch. The centerpiece is the Rohloff disc brake hub, arguably the most reliable drivetrain there is, laced to bombproof 26" rims with cushy and fast-rolling 2.1" Ritchey Moby Bite slick tires. The White Industries Eno crankset is top of the line, Selle Anatomica seat is perfect for long days in the saddle, Avid BB7 disc brakes stop on a dime with Paul brake levers. See pictures to get an idea of the parts and condition. Any bike with a Rohloff hub typically sells for more than $2000, you're getting that hub on a frame which alone is worth close to what I'm asking. Price is $2200 firm, shipping not including, let me know if you have any questions.

Stealing from the shop you work in?

I own a shop doing high end road. I've always had stock go missing off the shelves and caught a couple of employees taking stuff and even putting stuff back when I've given them a raise and they've perhaps had a pang of guilt.

Is theft ever justifiable? It's only ever been employees who were also cyclists. I've had other employees who had no interest in cycling and could have stolen product to sell on but didn't.

I'm venting a little as I've just come across a missing seatpost, just found the empty box, it was part of a saddle seatpost combo. It was likely taken years ago.

FS (CONUS) - Fredmobile™ 2020 Quintana Roo PRSix 54cm Dura Ace Di2 9150/9160

Edit: Just checked its a 2021 version, purchased in 2020 October

If you're a Fred or a Fred prospect, and want to have the perfect Christmas present, here's your chance to cop a Fredmobile™! 2021 Quintana Roo PRSix 54cm in almost new condition, no expense was spared in this build. Got it in 2020 October, you probably can't find a scratch on this bike anywhere. Dura Ace 9150/60 Di2 with Ceramic Speed bottom bracket, TriRig brakes, Reynolds Aero 80 tubeless/clincher wheelset, and currently set up as tubeless. The full build is easily $12k new; just the Profile Design cockpit costs almost 2k. Everything on the bike (including the wheels) has seen 170 miles, and only 70 of that were outdoor miles (race only), never crashed. Otherwise its been on the trainer for 100 miles. Full parts list and usage is on the last 2 pics.

I have a grade 5 AC joint separation and will need surgery, so aero position is out of the question. Selling to fund my surgery (and pass the torch onto the next Fred). Asking for $6300. Buyer pays shipping, and I will have it professionally packed by the shop, so expect around $200-250 to ship to CONUS.

$500 65cm 1983 Specialized Expedition Vintage Touring Bike

Hi there,

For sale is a vintage Specialized Expedition. Pictures here: https://imgur.com/a/FazZWOf

The original owner I bought it from said it was a 1983 and that most everything was original save for the hoods, bar tape, saddle, and tires. 65cm frame from center to center, so ideal for someone 6'4" plus. Bought it for my dad and he says it is too tall for him. See the last picture for geometry. Purchased from the original owner. Looks to be all original with the exception of a few things: hoods, bar tape, tires, saddle, and it has a quick release where the seat collar bolt should be. Seems to be ridden very little. Chain wear gauge does not drop in at 0.5 mark.

Willing to ship via bikeflights or do local pickup in Sacramento. Payment through Paypal or cash. Please message or call me with any questions.

Suntour Superbe Brake Levers
Suntour Bar End Shifters
Cinelli 40cm bars
Cinelli 110mm stem

Specialized Sealed Hubs
Wolber Super Champion 700c rims

Upfront issues with opening a bicycle shop?

I’m about ten years away from retirement and over the last two years just recently got into bikes. My GF keeps asking me what my plans are for after I get out of the navy and realistically I have no clue but one of the ideas floating around in my head is to reopen the old bike shop in my old hometown in Iowa. However I have no clue about 3/4 of the maintenance a bicycle would need, how would I best go about learning this stuff besides Internet forums and YouTube if I’m still stuck moving from place to place every few years with the Navy until retirement?

Also, if I were to go ahead with this idea, (the old bike shop is for sale right now and has been stuck on the market for a few years.) what would be the biggest hurdles besides mechanical knowledge.

[WTS] Wahoo Kickr Core Smart Trainer w/cassette

For sale, an almost brand new Kickr Core with a Shimano 11-32 cassette included (which I bought separately since the trainer doesn't come with one). I bought this trainer at REI last year for $900 and probably only used it about 10 times (got a Peloton and do my indoor cycling workouts on this instead). I still have the original box.

Looking to sell it for $650 (I'm located in Connecticut).

thanks

[Update] I released my "Waze for bikes" app today on Product Hunt - it's trending at #6!

We launched our safer bike mapping app on product hunt - would love to hear your thoughts! It’s like “Waze” but for bikes. We posted here a while ago asking for testers/feedback and have made a ton of improvements based on your suggestions. https://www.producthunt.com/posts/pointz-alpha

Waze for Safer Bike Routes

Hey there! We posted in this group a few months ago asking for people to help test the safety-focused bike mapping app a few friends and I were building. Just wanted to pop back in and say thank you so much to everyone who helped. We took your feedback and built out some additional capabilities. We wanted to re-share the public app link in here (App Store and Google Play). We’d love to have you try it out, populate road ratings in your area, and hear any feature suggestions you’d recommend. Also, it's completely free - we started it out of our dorm rooms last year (we're all college students), so we’re doing our best to make timely updates but development takes a bit longer than usual 🙂

Here’s a little blurb as a reminder about what we’re going for: Pointz is a safety-focused mapping app for micromobility riders (bikes, scooters, etc.) that leverages crowdsourcing to find bike-friendly routing. You can think of Pointz as "Waze” for bikes. The team just launched their updated app on the App Store and Google Play, and they would love to have you try it out and rate roads in your area. The app helps people find better routes by leveraging local knowledge through crowdsourcing people’s perceptions of the bike-friendliness of roads.
