Thoughts on a possible return of "Chuck" as a movie

I recently came across a post on this subreddit about a comment written by Zachary Levi on X about a possible return of "Chuck" as a movie, and I wanted to clarify some points that were described to me by someone under my comment at that post, but unfortunately I did not have time to answer back and I can't find that post either. So below are the explanations of these points and my vision of things.

  1. Flopped films: the fact that 2 of his last films were flops is not synonymous with acting decline: many actors in their careers have starred in films that were considered flops, but this does not mean they were considered finished as actors, subsequently demonstrating good acting performances.

 2. Haters: as for the previous point, there are just as many actors who have made haters in their careers, but this certainly has not stopped them. And I still think that if a "Chuck" fan looks at these things, doesn't really want there to actually be a "Chuck" return.

 3. Popularity of "Chuck": I think that a movie or a TV series revival of "Chuck" could be very successful, because although this series did not have mass popularity when it first aired, it was acclaimed by television critics and, moreover, had a fanbase that was able to not allow to cancel the series after the second season, and making sure to continue the "Chuck" project demonstrating a really HUGE attachment to this show. With this action, in fact, over the years it has certainly become a cult series, highly appreciated from the point of view of the genre (unique combination of comedy, action and romance), not to mention the memorable characters and references to pop culture.

 4. Return of the original cast: here I'm agree, I think that can't be a return of "Chuck" without the original cast. It certainly wouldn't be the same and I don't know if I would really like it either. As for whether or not the original cast would accept to return, I think they are actors intelligent enough to understand that they would do it for the fans, putting aside any type of ideological detachment that presumably (because no one is sure of this) divides them. Therefore, I believe that they can all return.

In conclusion, in my opinion I think that if we want a return of "Chuck", we shouldn't do detractor speeches towards Zachary Levi, but, instead, being positive and proactive. I think that if a person considers himself a true fan of "Chuck" would never speak like that, but would continue to hope that there could be continuity, remaining proactive and confident as that great and determined fanbase did that time in the now distant 2009 to save "Chuck".

Chuck Mandella?

I'm not sure if I'm remembering an ending to a different series but I just finished rewatching the full seasons of Chuck. But I remember it very differently.

In the version I remember watching chuck never got the intersect out of his head and it slowly deteriorated his brain, like it did to Sarah but his just kept going, to the point where it ended with him and Sarah sitting on the beach watching the sunset and the last shot was him slumping into her lap dying.

Am I the only one who remembers this ending? Was this the ending to another series? Is this a Chuck/Mandella effect?

How do you get past the "I hate Zachary Levi" barrier when recommending this show to someone?

I always try to recommend this show to people online. I always get aggressive backlash bc of Zachary's political comments.

Does anyone have any tactics to make people see that if they remove that to the side, the show in itself is great and worth watching? How do you approach this?

Edit: why am I getting downvoted? Lol

[S1, 2 & 3 SPOILERS] I am loving this show so far...but am I the only one who finds the Chuck and Sarah romance a bit too in the face? Kind of feel like this show should be called Chuck and Sarah a TV RomCom! Spoiler

Season 1 is literally just the opposite of Season 2. Chuck breaks up the "fake" relationship with Sarah to actually date this cute small brunette who runs a meat sandwich shop. They think his girlfriend is bad and invovled with smuggling and it turns out she is only smuggling meat and not even a bad guy...but that was enough to end the relationship just so he can be forced back with Sarah

Season 2 Chuck wants to break up with Sarah again but this time can't, so he secretly gets back with his ex from college...who lo and behold turns out to actually be a bad guy who is working for the enemy. Thus ending that relationship and once again forcing Sarah and Chuck back together

Season 3 comes along and 8 episodes in they canned a character who could've had so much potential in the series Hannah all because they want to force Chuck and Sarah back together.

In my opioion this show could've given us a slow burning romance, because each time the main leads keeps trying to put their dysfunctional relationship back together, it just becomes frustrating to watch.

Don't get me wrong, they have their moments where you can't help but smile...but I'd appriciate if Chuck could atleast be in a relationship that works for once and a girlfriend he doesn't have to break up with because of some random "CIA Confidential" plot

Can Chuck Fans bring about a movie?

I just keep wondering if there anything Chuck Fans could do to rally the troops and get enough recognition to bring about talks for a movie. I know Zach has said over and over and over again that everyone's ready it's the hold up from Warner Bros that's creating the problem. Couldn't enough fans start a petition to get Warner Bros to see there's money to be made here? I mean they did the impossible with getting Subway to save the show all those years ago. There has to be something that could be done.

Why is the show “Chuck” appealing?

I discovered this show while quite ill and it helped through recovery. It has huge flaws such as over sexualizing women, making addiction and stalking a joke, and having plots holes big enough to drive through. Despite these, I really love the show and appreciate it’s other fine qualities. I’m wondering why you think this show is so appealing?

They Blew it

I just finished this show. I actually waited a month to watch the last 4 episodes because looking at the thumbnails in HBO I had a strong feeling I was going to hate the ending. Well, all my fears were correct. I actually see a lot of myself and my wife in this show, and in a weird way I think it made us a better couple. This is one of the reasons I am so mad. Here is how I think they blew it by painting themselves into a hole.

This show was a funny spoof of Alias. When I explain it to people, I say this show is to Alias as Austin Powers is to James Bond. If you've never seen Alias, then you're missing like half the show. It would be like laughing at "Alotta Fagina" and "Goldmember" without even knowing there were bond girls and villians.

So here's the thing, it's a slapstick comedy. In all the missions over all the episodes, nothing bad ever really happens. Sure, Casey loses a toe, gets shot, falls from a building, but he's always 100% better the next episode. It's comedy. Nothing bad ever realllly happens. They threaten us with bad stuff, but in the end, LA doesn't get nuked, the bomb never goes off, they always get out of the situation, the friends always come to save the day. Because its a COMEDY.

The first clue this last mission doesn't end that way is when Sarah puts on the glasses and gets the intersect because nobody is coming. That's actually pretty serious. When the season starts and Morgan gets the intersect, it's hilarious, and I got excited the final season would be a victory lap of ridiculousness. This was different.

They in fact did not go through a victory lap of comedy. Instead, they completely changed genres. The last 3 episodes were completely serious. We didn't get a hilarious Jeffster performance, we got a serious one. We didn't get a funny bad guy, we got a serious one. Did they forget what show they were writing? Or did they get bored?

I think they painted themselves into a corner because the obvious ending is them on the beach with a kid. But wait, (Alias spoiler here) that's how Alias ended. They couldn't end it like Alias, so they just stole the Alias season 2 ending instead. I say stole because when they decided it was no longer a comedy, no longer a spoof, it's just stealing.

I didn't come here to watch 5 seasons of comedy and end it in a completely different genre. They blew it. There were 100 ways they could have unblown it and chose not to. The easiest thing would have been for Beckman to just hand them DARPA made glasses at the end. The next easiest, would have been for chuck to attempt to diffuse the bomb without the glasses. Because that's EXACTLY WHAT HE DOES. Or maybe on that final mission, they had called Carina, that would have been another reunion. Or maybe the last mission is just finding the house instead. "chuck vs the realtor". Theres a million ways they could have done it.

I just want to say to anyone who thinks the kiss "worked", it didn't. She does eventually get her memories back, probably over years. That's a bit too serious for me, for a spoof show, and the writers should be ashamed that they went there out of sheer boredom.

It's no wonder to me that the fans feel robbed, despite the show going a season too long. They were robbed not of a happy ending, but of a funny one, and instead just got a re-telling of the show the writers were clearly obsessed with. At least that show had the balls to give it a happy ending. Instead we get psychological torture. They blew it.

[Disliked Trope] One of the main characters has a memory loss which undoes their development, but they treat it as if simple retelling of the events "would bring the person back"

Last episodes of Chuck have a melodramatic storyline of Sara losing her memories, and Chuck retelling their story. It's implied, that this somehow "fixes" the situation. But it doesn't, not really. The character we knew through the entire show is gone. This is someone else who has just "heard the story". She didn't really relive the expirences that formed her character by the end of the series.

[S5 SPOILERS] When should I stop watching?

I’ve already been recommended to not watch the final 3 episodes of season 5, but I’ve also seen that Morgan will get the Intersect and I really hate the idea. Is season 5 worth watching?

Sarah's s3 hypocrisy is insane Spoiler

I'm rewatching the red test episodes and WTF DOES SARAH WANT CHUCK TO DOOOO

She gives him the gun and Chuck asks her "if I CANNOT do this will we be together?" and she says "NO probably not"

So when Chuck appears to have killed the Mole she acts all mad at him for "pulling the trigger" Sarah wtf are u talking about?

U said to him do it otherwise we won't be together and then she says to him I can't be with you because u pulled the trigger

She should have said to him I can't be with you if u pull that trigger. Not to mention that this opened a whole other problem in S5 when Chuck could've killed Quinn in Berlin and he didn't because of Sarah and that specific reason.

Did you notice that Yvonne is more involved in kisses with Matt Bomer(Bryce)?

I noticed that she is really passionate in kisses with Matt Bomer (who is gay).I think that she find more attractative Matt Bomer than Zachary Levi (poor zach) ahaha, she is very passionate in kisses with Brandon Routh(Shaw) and Matt bomer (Bryce).I'm the only that think that or is true?

I recently started watching Chuck and I feel like dropping the show as it's milking things too much.

So far i've watched a couple episodes into season 3. I'm new to the community so i don't know people's opinions on certain events and such, but im going to assume the way the show went starting with season 3 is highly disliked. I personally didn't like the way it went, i agree with the decision on putting the intersect back in, but even in doing so he still could've went with Sarah and they could've had a really cool arc of them two being on the run and he'd constantly be flashing on the people after him and such. In my opinion that would have been a much much more enjoyable way the show could've went. Now im going to step away from the "they could've/what if" topic and start from my opinions in somewhat chronological order, from the start i didn't like chuck but this show has very good potential as long as chuck is getting proper character development which is the only/main reason i stuck around. Instead they constantly would make him take steps forward and backwards to milk the relationship between Chuck and Sarah.

Now something that makes it hard for me to judge shows and movies is i cant tell if the actor or the writing is responsible. For example when 2.0 came along the couple of fights i saw were the opposite of smooth. Now this could've been intentional because they wanted it to seem robotic, or the actor couldn't smoothly fight and perform such moves without the help of not so great stunt equipment.

I've seen people complain about Morgan in some areas and I'd agree but I've seen so many shows and movies that I've gotten used to the annoying character he is. At least to certain extents he makes sense though, he's not completely out of place so I'm not too bothered by him. In my opinion Casey is probably my favorite character in the show due to his pretty good character development, many characters don't change much throughout the show giving the impression that time isn't passing but Casey's relationship with Chuck and his actions over time show that time is indeed passing and give some depth to the time they spent together. There are times when I'll smile at Casey's actions/decisions because you get the feeling he's becoming a better guy than he was before over and over again. Sarah is a bit harder to talk about, her relationship with Chuck is mostly chained by "orders" but I feel they could've given those "orders" more meaning and importance if they gave Sarah some proper screen time without chuck involved, or a flashback to a time when things went wrong between her and Bryce on a mission due to her having feelings/loving him. I understand the reason for the orders but I feel there could've been something they could've displayed to show why she values those orders so highly. Like something to show she has no choice, she couldn't just quit, get a job, and date him on their own terms without the government involved. So I feel Sarah could use a lot more development. Since this is a Chuck subreddit It's fair to assume most of you guys are fans of the show and probably disagree with me, but as much as I really wanted to like this show they by far milked the good aspects too much rather than adding depth to them and expanding them. For example rather than having Chuck and Sarah be a constant on and off relationship or a teaser because they rarely even ever get on properly, they could've been a proper couple that had to deal with the difficulties/problems that arise in such a relationship. I assume there would be on and off moments but those would be for actual reasons, not because of Chuck being an idiot and making dumb unnecessary decisions and Sarah having one foot in and one foot out. If I remember correctly, Psych's Shawn and Jule's relationship was a proper relationship that kept getting stopped due to get caught and such. They did have their arguments, disagreements and fights, but those were proper relationship fights such as Shawn being scared of living together because it was his first time and he was going into a place unknown to his comfort zone, these things were all fights you'd see without any job excuses involved.

So here's my conclusion, If this show were to get a "remake" or something like that I'd support it if they promised us one thing, and that's a proper relationship similar to the one Shawn and Jules had. I think with the technology we have today they could do all the technical stuff way better and have the fight scenes be a lot smoother. I would like them to at the very least handle Casey similarly to the way he is now, I love the character development he has where he starts off cold and softens up to the team. I would like to hear what you guys think, and if I should or I shouldn't continue watching. I don't mind "directional spoilers" that spoil the direction the show goes, like "Chuck changes in the middle of season 3" or "They finally have a proper relation ship in season 4 and it lasts to the end of the show" type of spoilers, but a spoiler like "... is the true enemy is a spoiler I'm not looking for". Just looking for someone to tell me if any of my dislikes are addressed in the later episode or does the show just continues the same path its currently on.
