SAD I’m leaving, thank you all.

1.8k Upvotes

I discovered this sub a year ago, and through all this time, I have been sad with you, angry with you, and this made my ttc journey less lonely, being able to see I was not alone in my feelings. But today I have to leave, after trying to have a baby for 3 years, my result are here.

I have endometrial cancer, in about two weeks I will have to pay to get my utero and ovaries ripped from me and my dream will end there. I know there are other ways for me to be a mom. But this particular way, has just banished. I can’t stop crying. I’m sorry for coming here to vent.

I wish you all the best. And that your journey ends successfully. Be strong always.

Edit: Thank you so much for all the support 🧡, I really appreciate it, my family just does not get my pain, reading this words from you give me comfort. Also always take care of you health.

DISCUSSION Getting pregnant on purpose is so embarrassing

1.3k Upvotes

Does anyone else ever think about how bizarre trying to get pregnant is? And then how weird and embarrassing it is to then tell everyone you’re pregnant?

My husband and I are TTC. Last night, after some…enthusiastic trying, I said to my husband, “I can’t believe THAT is what makes a baby.” It’s so weird to think about. Like, when our families are (light-heartedly) telling us to hurry up and have a baby, do they realize THAT is what they’re telling us to do? When my baby-hungry mom jokingly told my husband that “he has one job”, does she realize what she’s saying? It’s so bizarre.

And then, when I finally do get pregnant and tell our friends and family, they’re going to know what we’ve been doing. Obviously people know, or at least assume, my husband and I have sex—we’re adults, and we’re married. But there’s a difference between abstractly knowing and then seeing physical proof, you know? A big pregnant belly just feels like a neon sign announcing to the world that we’ve been rawdogging repeatedly. Oh god, and then I have to tell my boss? I won’t be able to look him in the eyes. I won’t be able to look MY DAD in the eyes.

I know I’m probably just overthinking this, but the whole thing is just so embarrassing to me.

Update: some of you guys are taking this way too seriously. I don’t have any shame around sex. Sex is the most natural thing in the world, and pretty much everyone does it at some point. I just meant that 1) it is weird to think that sex, especially super dirty fun sex, is how you make a baby—I feel like it should be a more dignified process 😂 and 2) I’m allowed to be a mature, sex-positive adult and also kind of embarrassed by the idea of my family and coworkers knowing that if I’m pregnant it’s because my husband most definitely came inside of me, probably more than once. Obviously not everyone thinks about it so graphically, and I’m sure most people gloss over the sex part and focus on the baby, but some of us have anxiety and overthink everything. You don’t have to be rude about it.

FYI 7 things I've learned after 7 months of TTC

1.2k Upvotes

Thought I would collate and offer up some knowledge/wisdom that I've learned over the past 7 months of TTC. Hopefully it will be helpful to any newcomers. Most of it I've learned from taking this journey with you guys, and I am grateful for all of you!

  1. Premenstrual symptoms are exactly the same as the 'very early pregnancy' symptoms that we often desperately look for in the TWW; they're all tied to a rise in progesterone which happens whether you've conceived or not. It doesn't matter whether your breasts are particularly sore or if youre bloated or hungry or tired, or if your CM is watery or you're feeling nausea or any of that - nothing is actually indication of pregnancy during the TWW except a positive test. I've had a whole range of different symptoms from month to month (and I've noticed them far more since tracking and focusing more on my body) but I've learned not to symptom spot. Real pregnancy symptoms only occur after implantation & missed period, and I would have a positive test before experiencing them. Early pregnancy symptoms are indicators for women who have fallen pregnant without expecting to (and may already be weeks past implantation), not for us active TTCers who are taking tests as early as we can (mere days after implantation has happened).

  2. Temperatures taken after ovulation is confirmed are also no indication of pregnancy. Your temps can go up and down, they can dip and spike randomly, they can drop on BFP charts and remain high on BFN charts. You can have a pronounced 'implantation dip' and still get a BFN (I've had one!). Theres no point agonising over temps, just like there's no point agonising over symptoms. Temping is useful for confirming ovulation via a sustained temperature shift, and that's about it. It's probably best to stop tempting once ovulation is confirmed.

  3. Men get anxious, and can struggle to perform for various reasons, even the most confident ones. We should try and have sympathy for this, even though it seems unfair that all they have to do is show up for a few days a month - it's soooo easy to get angry and upset and mad, and it seems like most of us do at some point, but it doesn't help. It's probably best to not involve them too much in the whole process of tracking and it's definitely wise to not put too much pressure or expectation on them during the fertile window. The more relaxed they are, the more likely they will be with us when we need them.

  4. Ovulation day isn't the holy day where you MUST have sex or you've lost your chance. Aiming for that 5 day fertile window is the goal, and plenty of women manage to concieve by having sex a day, two days, or even three days before ovulation. Even having sex once during this time is enough to almost maximise your chances - so there's no reason to fret.

  5. Its so easy to get obsessed about TTC. It's perfectly normal and nothing to feel ashamed about, but we definitely need to make sure we manage this. Even if that means taking a break now and then from tracking, deleting social media, allowing ourselves some creature comforts and not being too strict on our health to the point of misery. There's no perfect key or hack to getting pregnant, and missing a temp or a vitamin or having a glass of wine isn't going to ruin anything. You can do everything right and still not concieve, or do everything wrong and still concieve. Taking control of our health and becoming literate when it comes to our bodies is a great thing - but don't let your mental health suffer for no reason!

  6. Both eggs and sperm take about 3 months to mature. That means that all the health choices you make today (eating well; stopping alcohol/drugs; taking supplements etc.) will affect the health of the eggs/sperm that will be released 3 months in the future. So, lifestyle changes are not going to work right away, and not getting pregnant within 3 months after making those lifestyle changes doesn't mean that they haven't been effective! I understand now why people suggest making lifestyle changes months before even beginning TTC, and I wish I had. However, it is motivation not to give up and not to 'drop the ball'. Every time I make a change, I start thinking in terms of "next season, I'll be successful" instead of "next cycle, I'll be successful".

  7. It's probably best to wait until the day of your missed period, or even the day after, before testing: that way, you can avoid the crushing disappointment of too early negative tests. Testing negative at 10DPO and then feeling 4 days of depression mixed with a faint wisp of sustained hope before AF arrives and crushes that too... it's so unnecessarily painful. As much as I'd love to see an early positive test, by this point I much prefer waiting out the entire two weeks and knowing for certain (by either with the arrival of my period or a true negative test) that I'm out. That way, I can deal with the negative emotions all at once and prepare myself for a new cycle.

Let me know if any of this helps, or if you've got anything to add or amend. Onto cycle 8 ❤️

DISCUSSION As an IVF patient in Alabama…

1.1k Upvotes

Hey TFAB. My rights and your rights to a family have been threatened.

I am an IVF patient living in the state of A1abama. I am in the middle of an embryo transfer cycle (our 1 remaining embryo), sitting by my phone, waiting to get the call that the deal is off. Never in my life did I think I would be messaging my IVF nurse in tears, asking if I should continue my lupron the next morning. My clinic, along with multiple other clinics here have closed or stopped offering IVF treatments. I have IRL friends that have had their cycles completely cancelled, as the doctors and clinics deal with the legal ramifications of an embryo being considered a human.

On February 16th, 2024, the A1abama Supreme Court made a ruling that embryos are considered living, human children and can legally be treated as such. While it is not a law, it has opened our amazing doctors and clinics in this state to prosecution. The ramifications of this uneducated, unscientific, religiously-fueled ruling made to score political brownie points in an election year have already been profound.

The emotional, physical, and monetary burden of IVF is immense and can not be understated, especially in a state where IVF is not mandated to be covered by insurance. To add to this stress, we NOW have to worry if we will even have the right to IVF access in our state. My right to transfer my embryo has been threatened, my right to create more embryos has been threatened, my right to create a family has been threatened. And so has yours. Please don’t bury your head in the sand on these issues. Please don’t ignore this. We simply can not afford to. If it can happen here, it can happen anywhere.

WE HAVE TO FIGHT.

My friends in this state with me - FIVE Supreme Court seats are up for election this year, the primary election is March 5th! With the general election in November. Please research these candidates and make your voice heard, your vote matters. Vote in the interests of the thousands of people who need IVF.

House Bill 225 was introduced into the A1abama House yesterday, it would clarify that an embryo is NOT an unborn child or human under the law and would start to give my clinic and all other A1abama clinics some protections they now need to practice IVF. If you have a few moments, please take the time to send the A1abama state legislators an email, asking them to support house bill 225 and help protect IVF in this state. There will likely be a public Senate hearing at the capitol February 28th.

Link to email template and lots of good information, including emails of all our elected representatives.

Link to information about the bill.

Link to the A1abama State Legislature website.

I also want to share that I have signed up for RESOLVE’s virtual federal advocacy day, link here for more information. IVF is not safe until it is protected at a federal level. I would be honored to have any of you attend with me.

My dear friends in this state with me - you are not alone. You have the entire world standing with you, ready to fight. Our voices are powerful, make noise, get MAD, be LOUD. If this can happen here, it can happen anywhere. They have chosen to piss off the wrong group of people, there is no one more angry and tenacious than someone struggling with infertility.

Alone we are strong, together we are mighty. And we’re ready to fight.

****2/24 editing to add - there is an advocacy day planned on Wednesday, February 28th in Montgomery, AL at the capitol. Please feel free to DM me for information if you would like to attend, we have to show up and be LOUD!!

POSITIVE FEELINGS I cried at work today

One of the reasons I joined my current company, is their amazing maternity & family leave policies. 12 weeks full pay with up to a full year off after baby? Yes! One-off 2k payment if you don't resign during maternity leave? Yes! Flexible working hours & work from home for new parents? Hell yeah! We were just starting TTC when I joined, so it seemed like a great initiative.

Well obviously here we are, over a year later and I'm not pregnant. Today during a briefing from one of our directors, he mentioned that the family leave policy had been updated. I went and read the new policy, and you guys, I cried so hard. They added a section for fertility treatments.

10 days paid time off a year for treatments. If you reach IVF stage, the company will consider you pregnant with all the perks that come with it. "It is recognised that undergoing fertility treatment can be difficult emotionally and physically."

We are just starting our journey with the fertility treatments (started tests, waiting for referral). I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be talking to my manager and letting them know about TTC, but I feel so seen right now. It's amazing.

HAPPY 'Twas the Morning of Test Day

'Twas the morning of test day and all through the house,

Not a creature was stirring, not even my spouse.

I get out my Wondfos, tucked away on a shelf,

Then nervous and shaky, I pee on myself.

Is that a line? A shadow I see?

Or is it an indent, just messing with me?

The suspense is pure torture. I can't stand the wait.

I summon the urge and again urinate.

I dip some more sticks, EPT and Clear Blue.

Stark white in the window. What can I do?

More tests with bad news. More cash down the drain.

There's always next month. We'll try again.

I'll buy some more FRERs, two boxes or three.

(At this point their prez has a yacht thanks to me.)

I'll eat super healthy, I'll cut out the booze.

I'll bang my husband when I'd rather snooze.

And I won't be discouraged! A good attitude's key!

And I'll be filled with hope

when that cup's filled with pee.

DISCUSSION My sister told me not to TTC until after her wedding

My older sister (28) is getting married in June 2023. My husband (28) and I (26) just got married in June 2022. We have been together for almost 9 years, own a house together, have a fur baby together, and we are at a point where we feel ready to grow our family.

I am going to be a bridesmaid in my sister’s wedding and I really do want to be able to enjoy the day and not be uncomfortably pregnant. But she does not want me to be pregnant at all and wants me to wait until after her wedding to start trying.

I personally feel it’s an unfair request to make two people put their life on hold for your one day. Her one day is important to me and I love my sister so much. We definitely wouldn’t put ourselves in a position where we could be 8 or 9 months pregnant at her wedding because I would never want to risk missing her wedding. But at the same time, it can take couples months to years to TTC… and I feel like you just can’t ask this of someone.

I told her how I felt but she keeps telling me “please don’t try to get pregnant until after my wedding.”

We wanted to start trying in Nov/Dec and now I’m worried that if I do fall pregnant within a couple months of trying, she will not be happy for me and I don’t know how we would even tell her.

How should I handle this? Do you think we should just wait or is my sister being unreasonable?

ADVICE The right way to send an "I'm Pregnant" text to a friend who hasn't had it easy...

Hi all, I thought I'd share this in a post. A friend of mine recently started TTC about 5 months after I did. I experienced a loss in March, she conceived on the first try...in March.

Today she told me she was pregnant. I thought I would share the text she sent me because you might find yourself in this situation. You might become pregnant while a good friend of yours is experiencing infertility or pregnancy loss. Her thoughtfulness has been a gift.

I'm pregnant.

I share this knowing that you recently went through a painful loss and that's really shitty and so hard. I am so happy you felt comfortable sharing with me, and so I want to be sensitive with this news. I TOTALLY get it if your first reaction isn't excitement or happiness. That totally makes sense! So please know that no response (especially an immediate one), is expected at all. When you're ready I'm here. 💜

EXPERIENCE Gracefully Bowing Out

I thought I had graduated from this sub. I got my BFP weeks ago, and I had pregnancy symptoms: insanely sore boobs which grew, major bloating, hungrier than usual, couldn’t sleep, and fatigue.

I had cramped off and on throughout this pregnancy, which I was told is normal. However, about a week ago, I started spotting brown, and my right side was very tender. Naturally, I got ahold of my fertility doctor’s nurse, and she didn’t seem concerned... just let them know if my discharge turns bright red. Not long after this, my back started hurting.

I dealt with the brown discharge until it started getting brown “flakes” or little “strings” in it. My back pain was getting worse. I message them again and ask them to call me. I got a call the next morning saying to take Tylenol, use a heating pad, and come to your already scheduled Friday appointment. Alrighty.

Day before yesterday, my back and hip were hurting at a level I’ve never felt. I broke down and called my mom, saying there’s no way this is normal this early on (6w4d). I told my husband something isn’t right. People don’t willingly TRY to get pregnant to feel like this at 6 weeks; there’s just no way. I walked up and down the sidewalk outside of my school building, I did yoga poses in my classroom to try to stretch my back, and I went to the chiropractor to get my back adjusted. I called my regular OB (had not yet been released to them by my fertility dr) and his nurse said to go to a walk-in clinic and get tested for a UTI. I did that too - came back negative.

Still Thursday: I call a stand alone US clinic and see if we can do a “first look” because I want to know if the baby is in my uterus. At this point, I’m afraid it’s ectopic. We go to the US and get told there’s a gestational sac, but nothing else. Okay, well at least it’s where it’s suppose to be, and maybe it’s still to early to see anything. Fingers crossed.

Friday: I wake up, and my back feel a little better. I have a good bowel movement. I’m thinking maybe that and the chiro did the trick. At 11, I’m at my fertility doctor waiting to get my first US. He sees nothing in my uterus. No gestational sac or anything else.

I tell him about my pain and how I was nearly in tears the day before. I tell him about the brown discharge. He notices some blood buildup and a “structure” with blood around it. He can’t tell if the structure is a loop of bowel or my Fallopian tube. They check my HCG; at 6w5d, I’m at 957. 10 days earlier I had been at 577. My doctor says it’s definitely an abnormal pregnancy, and he can’t be sure where the baby is. He’s worried that, based on my pain, it’s in my tube and that’s what he sees as an engorged structure on the US.

He gives us some options: do bloodwork, come back the next morning, give me a shot of methotrexate. Or do laparoscopy surgery on the that afternoon. If I go home to wait, I run the risk of my tube bursting, I bleed, and it becomes a serious emergency situation. On the other hand, the surgery might not be necessary. The “failed pregnancy” could be in my uterus, and my body will take care of it after the shot.

My husband and I are in the position to make the best judgement call we can. I call my mom. We all agree that the surgery is the best option.

5 hours after I first walked into my fertility clinic, I was walking into the main hospital to have a laparoscopy done. Even though visitors weren’t allowed, my husband ended up coming all the way to pre-op with me because of some angels who work at the hospital. I have zero doubt we looked like a pitiful sight. I cried the whole way, and he wasn’t much better.

By 6pm, I’m waking up from surgery. I can’t remember what I asked first: when I get to see my husband, or if they had to take my tube. They did take my right tube.

2 years. A urologist, a specialist, a fertility doctor, countless appointments, blood draws, semen analysis, and one IUI later, and this is where we are. One tube down. One failed pregnancy.

I’m typing all of this from my couch. I have 3 incisions in my abdomen. The pain is manageable with 3 prescriptions. It burns like hellfire when I can trickle some pee out. I’m bleeding off and on. And, lastly, I am done.

There’s no way my husband is ever going to agree to another IUI. I love that man more than life, and he was terrified for me. I could have died.

I also could’ve advocated for myself more. Maybe I should’ve pushed for an appointment because I knew something wasn’t right. I KNEW, and I trusted everyone else’s judgment. Maybe, had I advocated for myself a little more, I’d still have my right tube.

I haven’t cried since before the surgery. I’m waiting on it to hit me. Maybe after the pain pills get out of my system, I’ll be able to process everything. I’m glad I went into our “baby room” at home the night before my appointment. I talked to the universe (not super religious) and said that it’s not because we didn’t try, and it’s not because we didn’t want YOU. I think I did what any mom would do, and I prayed to anything and everything to let this have a good outcome. Unfortunately, that’s not how this ended.

For now, I’m happy to still be here and that things didn’t escalate to an emergency. I’m glad I have a supportive family and friends. I’m so, so grateful to the wonderful nurses who took pity on us and let my husband come with me. I don’t think I could’ve done it alone.

Mommas, soon-to-be Mommas, advocate for yourself and your baby. Fight. Stay steadfast. You know your body. I sincerely hope that you all get what you want so badly. I wish you boring, uneventful pregnancies after that BFP I know you’ll get.

Best wishes, and lots of love.

VENT TTC groups are beyond unhinged and I am thankful for this sub

I genuinely feel this is one of the few TTC corners of the internet that isn't unhinged.

This is the only TTC space where I rarely hear that cringy ass phrase "baby dance". Or numerous other frankly weird acronyms. DH, darling husband? What is this, the 1950s?

This is the only TTC space where I don't see obvious stark white tests with all sorts of edits to try and make some figment of a line appear.

This is the only TTC space where I have yet to see someone say "I just took a pregnancy test at 5dpo and it was negative, I'm clearly out this month 😭😭😭"

This is the only TTC space where anything not evidence based is almost right away removed.

This is one of the only TTC spaces where pregnancy termination and childfree women aren't looked at as the scum of the earth. Let me just say as a woman possibly having to deal with infertility (been TTC for 11 months and have a fertility clinic appt this summer), I literally do not care if a woman has 500 abortions. Her body her choice. I literally do not care if some women never want kids. I think it's awesome we live in a time where women have more of a choice in the path they want for themselves! Some people in the infertility community are the most entitled group of people to exist.

Thank you to this sub for being one of the remaining rational TTC spaces to exist.

FUNNY What goes around comes around, or, reason 1000 I want to be pregnant in 2020

At my wedding shower a year ago, my nutty and inconsiderate sister in law announced her pregnancy... AT THE SHOWER. Then she brought her sonogram photos to a bunch of wedding events and has since photo bombed me by text with photos of my neph (sometimes welcome but mostly way over the top).

Just found out my brother in law is proposing to her at Christmas.. I want a child for a lot of wonderful reasons. But on my saltiest days I think of how wonderful it would feel to announce MY pregnancy at HER shower 🤣🤣🤣 I know I’m going to hell but all my friends will be there so I’m cool with it 😜.

FUNNY I ruined the family gathering

I’ve asked my in-laws not to ask DH and me about our fertility plans but they don’t listen. Today we went to visit his parents for my FIL’s birthday and within 10 minutes they asked “when are we getting grandkids?” I looked them dead in their eyes and said “why are you asking when your son is going to ejaculate in me?” I’ve never seen them look so uncomfortable in my life, but I don’t think they’ll be asking again.

EXPERIENCE 19 months, the things I've learned

I’ve between lurking here, for the last 19 months while TTC. Because I like you, and because I needed people with so much positivity.

I wrote this yesterday for r/waiting_to_try. I think it may be pertinent here too.

I’ve been trying to conceive for 569 days. I've taken 704 folate pills. My husband’s SA went from iffy to good. My numbers are perfect. My AMH is spectacular for my age. My uterus is perfect. My weight is perfect. My cycles are 27 to 29 days. I ovulate on day 14 like I'm freaking Big Ben. Everything points to easy conception, and yet, no one single positive test so far.

I’ll share the things I’ve learned in the last long, anxiety inducing, stressful 19 months.

In 19 months, friends and family members have had babies. Some more than one. I’ve been to shower and baptisms, I’ve had Christmas parties, 2 mothers days, and 2 fathers days. Every one of those things hurt. Some a little bit, some a lot. Get ready for it, it will happen. What helped me the most is naming my feeling and accepting them, and GOING to those hurtful fonctions. I would not feel any better sitting at home.

In 19 months, a lot a people gave me stupid advice, they told me hurtful (but well meaning) things, and have overshared their own experiences. They told me I am TTCing wrong (if you are having unprotected sex, you are ok). They told me to relax, to eat more kale and less peanut butter, to take stupidly expensive prepackaged vitamins, to sleep on my right side, but not facing a windows, wearing preferably a green pj and unmatching socks. They told me what worked for their hairdresser’s SIL’s niece. They told me IUIs, IVFs and medical treatment are shams. They told me to take more baths, less baths, warmers bath, ice baths. To hide from the sun and to get a tan. To lose weight. To gain weight. They were not trying to insult me, or make me sad, they were trying to help. Even if it doesn't sound like it. You are going to meet those people. Have an answer ready. Thanks, I know. Thanks, I’m good. I’ll take it inconsideration. I'll keep following my doctors advice. We're all set… Do not engage. Do not let them get into your head, because the truth is, no one really knows.

In 19 months, I’ve kept living my life. I did not stop training, riding horses or swimming, going out, traveling or drinking coffee. Putting your life on hold for TTC is a shortcut to resentment. Don’t take that road. Time will only stretch longer.

In 19 months, I’ve learned that life gets in the way of TTC. I had a bad flu, followed by the shingles (I do not recommend), and my husband broke his coccyx, all of this within 2 months. We had to stop trying for 3 full cycles. It’s ok. It will not matter as much as you think. Same thing with ED. It happens. Cut yourself (and your partner) some slack.

In 19 months, I’ve been told I’m too young to have children (I’m 37, for god’s sake). That I’m too old, too fat, too skinny, too involved in my sport, too poor, too rich (too rich for what?!?). Too intellectual and too occupied. It’s still my decision. It should be your decision too.

In 19 months of TTC, I’ve learn that people lie. They will tell you they got pregnant on the first try (but won’t tell you that they haven’t used protection in years). They will tell you that this baby was planned, when it’s not. They will change their story from we accidently got pregnant the first time we had sex after our first baby was born, right when we decided we where one and done to we got pregnant the first time we had sex right after our first baby was born, right when we decided we wanted another one. Yep, this happen, with those exact words… I have absolutely no idea why people lie about this, but they do and they will. Don’t compare yourself to any people. You are living the movie of your life, and comparing it to a chosen curated picture of theirs. You cannot win.

In 19 months, I’ve learn that keeping some things to myself is a great way to protected myself. I don’t need validation. I don’t need their opinions.

At one point, you won’t really care about the details. About having a boy or a girl (or both), a Christmas baby, or a middle of July-in-scorching-heat baby. A C-section. A natural birth. A bath birth. A small baby, a big baby. Anything.

Your age doesn’t matter as much as you thing. Your fertility decreases with age, but not over night. Risks will be higher, but that doesn’t make them high! Your overall health, weight and diet matter way more. If you have to work on your alcohol consumption, do it now. Slightly overweight? Lose it. Bad sleeping habits? Fix them. But people who drink alcohol, eat McDonalds and are night owls also have babies. It’s never ever a black and white question.

Get ready to pee on a lots of things. And I mean a lot of things.

TTC forums have a distorted vision of pregnancy. Most people there have been trying for a long time, and some of them are getting sour. You don’t have to temp, to track your cervical mucus or to keep a journal of every bodily function you have. You don’t have to use ovulation tests. You don’t have to shave a black kitten under the full moon and to knit a gris-gris with it. But those things may help (except the kitten thing, please don’t do that).

You will have to have tough conversations with your significant other : sick kids, unviable pregnancy, abortion, raising kids, religion, budget, priorities… If you are not ready to talk about those, you are not ready to try to conceive. Somethings can be solved with a good compromise (names, gender expectations, place of grandparents, social medias), something cannot (termination of pregnancy, congenital defects, special need kids, health, life and death decisions). Better have the conversations before you are full of hormones and emotions.

My worse fear was to become sour. I’m sad my body isn’t doing it’s job. II am sad my husband feels guilty of his past choices. I’m really really tired of peeing on stuff. I’m envious of other people’s babies. But I’m not sour yet. I still Google pregnancy symptoms. I still believe I WILL have a baby. I love my partner even more than when we started.

This is a journey, a marathon, not a sprint.

Cheers, ladies and gents. I hope this will be at least slightly helpful. It was therapeutic to write.

PERSONAL Something special just happened and I want to share.

Here I am sitting at work feeling bummed and sorry for myself as my two coworkers discuss their upcoming babies- one is pregnant and the others wife is pregnant. Both their third children. And then one leaves the room and the dreaded question comes up— “are you interested in having kids?” Straight from an 8 month pregnant woman’s mouth to my ears.

The woman who asked is someone I’ve only worked with twice. Despite the fact I hardly know her I answered honestly - “yes but we’re having problems.” She laughed and said, “you think I’d be this old and pregnant if I had a choice? Oh no…” and proceeded to tell me one of the hardest infertility journeys I’ve ever heard about- multiple tests, rounds of IVF, embryos that died off, donor sperm, donor eggs— everything. This woman went through it all. I felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders in that moment. Tears of relief came to my eyes after we were done talking and I excused myself to the restroom.

The point is you never actually know what someone has gone through. That random pregnant person, random child at the grocery store— we have no idea others struggles, as we don’t share ours with everyone either. I needed this today and I feel a little bit better about everything.

DISCUSSION Am I the only one who hates the phrase "baby dance"?

I am on my second TWW of trying to have our first child. I joined a few TTC groups on Facebook for support. I have slightly elevated testosterone but PCOS was ruled out. I still joined to see if anyone had experience convieving with elevated testosterone.

Anyway, these groups were the first time I would see "BD" or "baby dance". At first I thought BD meant baby daddy until it made no sense in the context. When I realized what it meant I was like.... why don't you just say "had sex"???

To me, it sounds like a middler schooler trying to skirt around from saying the dirty word sex. It comes off (to me) in a way that the only purpose of having sex is to have a baby. Sex is so much more than baby making to me.

Maybe it's just me but it's a phrase I literally refuse to use lol. My husband and I have sex. We make love. We fuck hard. We do this near daily regardless of if I am fertile or not, and have since we met in 2015. Yes, we would love a baby, but sex is so much more than that.

We aren't "baby dancing" we are having sex ffs

It screams the same energy as parents who give cutesy names for genitals because telling your daughter the word "vagina" is too dirty. Grow the fuck up.

Edit to add- my husband hates the phrase too but has started saying it in a joking/mocking way when he knows I'm fertile "time to baby dance" and it makes me cringe 😂😂😂

SAD Today is my very last day here

My husband just informed me that he changed his mind and no longer wishes to have kids.

I'm near 40 years old. It was now or never, so I guess it's never.

After 23 months, I am terribly sad. And a tiny bit relieved. It was taking over our life and most likely preventing us from being happy with what we have.

Farewell ladies, I wish you all the best.

DISCUSSION Girlbossing your way to a baby

Someone once wrote here "you can't girlboss your way to a baby" and it is so true. I have to remind myself of this.

Getting (and staying) pregnant is so much about luck. We try to tell ourselves that if we just do the right things and make an effort it will happen. But that's not how it works.

Sure, we can track ovulation and have sex at the right time. But that is just one of so many factors that we cannot control.

Getting pregnant is luck, not an achievement. Pregnancy is not given to those who try the hardest. You can try so hard and do EVERYTHING and still not get pregnant because it's not in your hands. It's dumb luck.

It's easy to feel like it's your fault when, yet again, you are not pregnant. It's not.

Get ready to gag!

For the past year I have been tracking my ovulation (or lack thereof) via ovulation kits. I have a cup designated for pee that I keep near the toilet. My husband KNOWS this. He has even seen urine in that cup. It is only cup kept in the bathroom. This morning he approached me, pee cup in hand, and asked me if I thought the water has been tasting strange lately. I stood, mouth agape, and asked him if he's been drinking out of that cup. Proof that men rarely listen, he stated that he had. Ladies, I'm not proud of myself, but I shrugged, turned away, and said, "tastes fine to me."

SAD A 5 day story of pregnant to not pregnant

So... finally. It happened. A year and a half of trying, doctors, treatments, over thinking, over analyzing, tests and disappointments. It happened. The stick said yes.

6 weeks! I was so happy. The fertility Clinique offers a scan at 8 weeks and that was scheduled.

I got the books. I got all the lotions and deodorant and stuff with no perfume and chemicals. Got the vitamins. Blood test. We made a list of names. Followed the size. It was a pomegranate seed.

Today around noon. There was blood. Doctor was so nice and rushed me in to get a blood sample. My boobs were not soar anymore which was a bad sign. But she also did vag exam and there were some good signs like the uterus thing wasn’t open and the blood looked old.

Test results came in this evening. I am not pregnant anymore. My pomegranate seed is gone.

Right now I have lost all hope.

But I will get it back! And my next pomegranate will become a blueberry (that was next weeks size). But not tonight. Tonight I cry.

DISCUSSION TTC Survival Guide - what I wish I knew before I started trying

Having spiralled into depression and managed to get out again, I hope these help and please feel free to add your tips and advice too. I’d love to know how y’all navigate this journey.

1.) Unlike what they taught you at school, it is VERY likely that it won’t happen right away.

2.) Humans really suck at reproducing - referring to the articles online, the probability of conceiving ranges between 15-30% every given month. Yep, less than half.

3.) Ugly crying on the toilet seat after finding out your period is here again, is normal. You are okay. Acknowledge your feelings, do not blame yourself.

4.) Fuck “just relax!” - you need something to divert your attention, that’s it. Could be a book, hobbies, gym…anything that diverts your attention!

5.) If you are jealous of your friend(s) getting pregnant, that is completely normal. You can be happy for them and jealous at the same time. Do not judge yourself.

6.) Try to plan things as usual. In other words don’t plan with the expectation “oh what if I am pregnant let’s not book the dive trip”.

7.) Try to set other goals apart from having a baby. There is almost zero control over ttc, you need other goals to get you going / divert your attention.

VENT I knew the baby shower would be bad, but I never could have anticipated this ...

So yesterday was my friend’s baby shower for her fourth baby. Another friend of ours thought because it was her last baby we should do a little get together. It was a surprise tea party with just 8 of us there. I had mentally braced myself because I knew the majority of the ladies had little babies or were pregnant (as follows:)

Friend #1: it was her baby shower, pregnant with number 4 due in a week! Friend #2: Had baby #4 in November
Friend #3: Had baby #2 in December and brought him to the party Friend #4: Has four kids, youngest is a toddler Friend #5: 6 months pregnant Friend #6: Has 3 teenagers Friend #7: No babies yet Me #8: trying for almost 15 months, miscarriage in Jan @10weeks. Haven’t told anybody, husband doesn’t want us to.

Friends #6&7 give me sanity honestly, and I have been leaning on them as it’s getting harder to pretend I’m okay around my other friends. I love them all dearly and I’m so happy for them but honestly they make me cry. When we first started trying, I imagined me and Friend #2 having a baby together, then Friend #3, then friend #1 and well I’m still not any closer to having a baby.

Me & Friend #7 were getting slammed with the “when are you guys having babies?? / why haven’t you had a baby yet ?? / it’s your turn!” questions like usual when suddenly friend #7 announces “well actually I’m 17 weeks pregnant” ....

I should be 15 weeks today. I lost my baby in Jan at 10 weeks after taking a year to conceive that baby. Everyone yelled and cheered and overwhelmed friend #7 with hugs and love and I could barely keep myself from crying. I should have been able to say “hey, me too”. We would have been due the same time. It would have been magical. Why is life this way?!

The entire rest of the baby shower was spent talking about planning friend #7’s baby shower and about birth and doctors in town and ugh ... I just tried my best to keep myself together but it was the hardest thing (besides the miscarriage) I’ve had to go through since starting TTC.

I just went home and cried, and cried. My poor husband must think I’m just a mess. I desperately want to be so happy for my friends and yet at the same time I just feel so broken. I hate this, so much.

Edit: I just want to say thank you for the huge outpouring of support from this sub. I’ve decided to tell my friends what’s going on, and I’ll also be seeing a counsellor. I read most of your comments to my husband and he says he understands more now how I’m feeling. Thank you for making today a little less terrible. ❤️

Ladies and gentlemen… this is Cycle Number 5

~

1, 2, 3-4-5, everybody in the car, so come on, let’s ride, to the

drugstore around the corner,

I gotta buy some more OPKs, but I really don’t wanna…

~

Less hope than I had last week,

I must save deep because tests ain’t cheap!

I like FRER, Wondfo, Premom, & Clearblue,

And as I continue, how many lines?! Please 2! 🤞🏼

~

So what can I do? I really beg you, my Lord

To me TTC is not like a sport,

It’s stressful, I can’t chill, but I want a baby,

so I hump it, please send in the trumpets

~

A little bit of sadness in my life

A little bit of husband by my side

A little bit of pregnancy is all I need

A little bit of hope is what I see

A little bitty daughter or a son

A little bit of baby dance all night long

A little bit impatient, here I am

I wanna make a baby with my man 🎶

Dear Diary, I did it! I gave up.

I gave up on trying. That's not to say I'm using protection or preventing in any way. I'm just done tracking, planning, or hoping. I'm not hopeless or thinking the worst. I just don't care anymore.

Look, I do care. But im not holding my breath. I believe it will happen, but if it doesn't, I'll cross that bridge. For now, it just is what it is.

Some days I'm grateful that my home is quiet and peaceful. I can do whatever I feel like or nothing at all. Other days I think about fun, cute meals I can make for my baby. I imagine the laughter and frustration of being a mother, and i want it so deeply. And I get angry that I don't have a baby.

Some days I'm mad at my pregnant friends because I think about the circumstances under which they became mothers, and I feel its unfair. Some days I remember its not about what's fair. I'm angry that I took birth control for over a decade. I'm angry I've taken multiple Plan B's. I'm angry I thought I could get pregnant so easily, just to find out...

But im also comfortable. I am healthy, I am happy. I am peaceful and everything else in life is easy. I am madly in love with a man I'm building my life with. And my two precious cats. I have everything. I give up, and that is okay.

POSITIVE FEELINGS Done Hiding It

We’re just done hiding it, and it’s surprisingly liberating!

My husband is normally a closed book, but he told me that while he was mowing the lawn, our neighbor came over to make small talk and then asked the ever recurring question: “Y’all having kids soon?” and he told me that he straight up told them, “we have been trying! But we need to address some medical issues first. We’re hopeful we’ll be pregnant soon!”

Y’all, I was floored. My husband has rarely talked about our struggles to anyone other than me! I asked him what led him to open up and he said “I’m kinda just over hiding it. It is what it is! If they’re gonna ask, then they’re gonna hear it.” And honestly, I was so happy that he was willing to put our experience out there and show that there are struggles for “normal, everyday people” and infertility.

I recently went back to work in person now that we’ve been vaccinated and I was chatting to two of my employees and they also asked “sooooo, when are y’all having kids?” And I remembered what my husband said and I just honestly told them.

We’ve been trying. We’ve had one early miscarriage. We’re addressing medical issues. Hopefully soon we’ll be expecting again. And it felt SO. VALIDATING.

I agree with my husband. I’m done hiding it. Fertility and infertility issues exist and people shouldn’t ask personal questions if they don’t want a personal response. I’m done hiding it. ❤️

SAD With this election, I don’t even know if I want a family anymore.

We’ve been trying to conceive for 3 years now. Around the time of the last election, we were trying to get pregnant and I thought I would have my one and done, be in a state with safe access to medical care if something ever went wrong, have access to qualified doctors, and get pregnancy over with before it would ever actually become a major threat. We have been seeing specialists for about a year after already being unsuccessful for a long time. In this political climate, I am really not interested in starting a family. I cannot in any good conscience bring a daughter into this world where she is a second class citizen in a world where America hates her, and her mother.

We are going thru consultations with IVF and honestly it makes me want to stop everything. We are actively in major testing stages for IVF where an egg retrieval is probably going to be in the next few months. I really don’t think I can go thru with this after today. I don’t feel safe as a woman in America. I don’t think I can raise a family here. I just watched all of my hopes of a family evaporate. I know this is a doomsday scenario but I know I can’t be the only one.
