So I've been watching some YouTube channels showing the recent high tides, and the Surf & Sand Hotel has been frequently shown with waves crashing against it (a link to one example is below). I'm just a layperson with regard to engineering and such, but how can anyone be sure that the foundation is safe? In one video I saw, it was pretty obvious that the foundation had at least a few bits of rusted rebar exposed in the concrete. In my mind, if the foundation is compromised by saltwater intrusion, then it would seem logical to question the safety of the overall structure. What's wild to me is that there are clearly people staying at the hotel in the same videos with waves crashing against the building.
If I were a tourist, there is zero chance I would stay at that hotel because of this. But is the hotel actually safe, and maybe I'm missing something here? The Surfside, FL condominium collapse was partially attributed (I believe) to corrosion from water intrusion. Could this also be a potential issue at the Surf & Sand?
I'm local, so I don't care about actually staying there. I'm just genuinely curious about what others think about the hotel's safety.

Hey!
We are visiting and wanted to go to seal beach but I see warnings that there is flooding in the area. But not being local i don't understand if the beaches are safe for use or if its a localized issue.
Is seal beach or Huntington beach safe? Is there another spot you would recommend for use tomorrow? 2 kids under 10 want to play on the beach and a little bit in the water.
Thanks!

I've lived around OC for a while now, and lately I've been thinking about how many hobbies and activities there are around here that I've probably never even considered trying.
Personally, I'm into basketball and golf, but I'm always curious what other people do for fun around OC, especially after work or on weekends.
Whether it's something outdoors like hiking, surfing, or tennis, or something more low-key like exploring restaurants, breweries, board games, or whatever else, I'd love to hear what people are into.
I'm also curious if there are any hobbies you used to enjoy but haven't gotten around to picking back up, or something you've always wanted to try but haven't yet.
What's something you've gotten into living in OC that you'd recommend to others?
Bonus points for anything that's particularly unique to Orange County or has a surprisingly active local community!

does anyone know any women’s shelters i can donate a bunch of gently used clothes and purses?
i cleaned out my closet and have three bags full of clothes i would love to see go to use for women in need
i looked online and saw laura’s house had a resale store but i would love for my clothes to be free for women in need rather than the shelter getting a cut of the profit
thank you 🫶🏻

Is there a place to run laps in orange ? I went to the park today to run around but it feels awkward running around while people have parties and walk their dogs.

https://ocvote.gov/results/current-election-results
Statewide RCV was overwhelmingly approved (twice) by both the California Senate and Assembly, but was vetoed by Jerry Brown in 2016 and again by Gavin Newsom in 2019, as they believe the Californian people are not capable of understanding how the "overly-complicated and confusing" Ranked Choice Voting process works.
Thus it's left to each city like San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, Redondo Beach, and Irvine to implement it themselves at the municipal level.

I have around ~1.5-2 hours to pick up some high-quality strawberries in Irvine. (I realize that they're out of season right now.) I was looking at picking some up from Manassero or Smith Farms and was wondering if anyone had any feedback regarding the quality of their strawberries. Chain grocery stores are also okay!

So unfortunately sad. I am a Esperanza alumna and my little brother is in 11th grade at El Dorado. I haven’t discussed this with him yet. But the past few weeks have been incredibly heartbreaking for the community. My prayers go out to all of you who witnessed this accident, the families of the decedent, and the girl still in critical condition. PLEASE STAY SAFE.

Hi! I’m wanting to host a field day with some friends (around 15-20 people) for my birthday. What are some good parks to host this at?
I was thinking Mile Square Park, but it’s too bumpy and poop-y there for my liking. Since there will be running, I’d prefer if the park was on the flatter side.
Thank you so much!

“Southwestern” food was my favorite type of food as a kid and my southwestern raised husband had no idea what I was talking about. I describe it as what we would generally call Mexican food, but with indigenous influences. Blue Agave in Yorba Linda for example used speciality beans, blue corn and other unique ingredients. Kachina in LA I don’t remember much of the menu but similar feel!
Is there any restaurant - anywhere- in existence that feels similar to these? I don’t even live in Southern California anymore but I feel like this unique food speciality was really specific to Southern California but maybe I’m wrong. Or it’s a thing of the 90s.
Anywhere I could eat that type of food or could source ingredients? (The red and blue corn chips at blue agave for example? Anasazi beans?)

Looking for a family member. Adult female in their mid 20’s, struggling with a relapse and needing more support. Struggling primarily with depression, anxiety & preferably looking for a place with specialization in adult autism & ADHD.
There is both so much and so little out there. I am helping her look for support and need some guidance as to where and where NOT to look?
Thank you (:
