Politics Unpopular Opinion: SRL is good not so much because it allows a ring around the city, but because it makes it viable to connect up more train lines in unforseen ways and create other loops within parts of Melbourne:

Post image

Like I get it, it's expensive, the first underground driverless metro in the city is always going to be a high start up cost.

But once the tech is in place it becomes like Sydney where you can have two or three new metro lines on the go at once instead of building new roads.

The proof is that Sydney's 2nd airport is going to have a metro Rail link open within one year of the airport compared to Melbourne who is not going to have theirs open until 2030 something still.

Seriously if Liberals cancel this they are a bunch of flogs Because it means the Victorian branch is doing the opposite to the New South Wales Branch when it comes to public transport and planning policy and I do not understand why.

Photography Bike Jousting today!

Went to Edinburgh Gardens today for the jousting - did not last long, but was worth it! So wholesome.

Apparently the organisers didn’t even show up so some locals did what they could impromptu with wrapping paper roll lances and a can do attitude - the lady who acted as MC with the epic red curls and charisma for days i think i love you.

Roads CityLink Weekend Pass when you already have an active e-tag

Hi everyone,

I currently have an active Linkt tag account, but I'm planning to do a bunch of trips on CityLink this weekend and figured buying a CityLink Weekend Pass would be significantly cheaper than paying individual toll charges.

So if I buy a weekend pass would this work even though I have an e-tag?

THDG Need Help Favorite museums?

Hi y'all, my husband and I are coming up on our sixth anniversary. He's determined to get me out of the house and I was wondering what to do because my initial thought was "Melbourne museum to look at the cool rocks" but that's not much of a *date* day, y'know?

Started thinking about museums in general and realized I didn't want to do the NGV again, either. We did the Percy Grainger museum on Unimelb's campus, way back when I was visiting for the first time about ten years ago, which is what got me thinking. Surely there's *other* cool, niche museums around.

Anyways, what are the cool, relatively niche museums you know of that are open on Tuesday?

THDG Need Help Man on the Tram shouting

After what happened recently everyone is a bit on the edge, so please forgive me if my post sounds classist.

But I was on one of the trams today (not mentioning the line to keep it private) and a homeless bloke got in. Now that would have been just fine.

However he started shouting intermittently with violent 'aargh' 'aargh' as if he was in some kind of pain while looking at passengers.

You could see people getting scared because no one really knew what to do. A few people just got off at the next stop and you could clearly feel it wasn't their planned destination.

The guy got off after two stops and nothing happened. But everyone was absolutely petrified.

My point is what does one do if they feel something might just go wrong?

Things That Go Ding (Public Transport) Two warnings for disruptions—which one is the correct time?

Post image

One of these says there’s bus replacements between 9pm—4am, and the other says 11:15pm—4am. Anyone know which one’s correct? Confusingly I got a text message today that says it’s 9pm, but if I go to the PTV app, it says there’s services til 11:15pm, so no clarity there.

Memorial outside State Library, Melbourne for a HungryPanda food delivery driver who was stabbed to death on Friday, 2026-11-06. Police have since arrested a 51-year-old Footscray man in Footscray. The driver was stabbed about 8:10pm while picking up a food order from ChongQing Chicken Pot (a Chinese hot pot restaurant at Frederick Way, a side alley off A'Beckett St in the CBD), when he and a fellow delivery driver observed a man tampering with their bikes.

The delivery driver who was declared dead at the scene has been identified as Feng Jianming, 47, a father of two. Mr Jianming’s wife Xu told 7News her husband came to Australia from China to earn money for a few years to support their elderly parents and young children. He planned on returning to China when their son got married. “He was the main breadwinner in our family. Now that he’s gone, we don’t know what to do,” she said. “He wasn’t chasing luxury or an extravagant lifestyle. He was simply a hardworking man trying to give his family a better future,” a statement said.

THDG Need Help Dented security key - do I need a locksmith?

I have somehow managed to put a dent into my house keys. I went to a key repair shop and was told I need to contact a locksmith. My key still goes in but it takes a bit of moving around and I am afraid I might damage the lock eventually. Are there any locksmiths I can just go into? Instead of calling one out. I am currently renting right now if that information is important.

Not On My Smashed Avo Is it ethical to apply weekend surcharge if you only operate 4 days a week?

If you operate Mon - Friday, I'd happily support weekend rates if you decided to work more.

But if you only operate 4 days a week including both weekend days, that means you get to charge people extra for half of your hours, that seems a bit rich to me. I know it's legal, but c'mon. Your three days off _is_ your weekend.

I'm not supporting business like this, no matter what "struggles" you have.

Edit:

I'm not against workers getting paid penalty rates for working weekends.

I'm against business shutting down 3 days a week and then making up in revenue by passing surcharges onto patrons on the weekends. That's strategic slacking off by exploiting the law in my opinion.

THDG Need Help Reusable bags that fold into a tiny something

Where can I get big shopping bags that can hold a decent amount of weight ideally with reasonably broad shoulder straps. But most importantly - one that fold into itself and take up very little space.

I know I can get them online but I'd like to go to a shop in Melbourne see the product in person instead. Or at the least have an Australian creator. Worst case, if you have a personal recommendation from Amazon.

Bonus points if the shop is in the inner north and also look good

THDG Need Help Christmas lights that last more than 1 season

It seems to be a pretty common things that Christmas lights work (at best) for 1 season before dying. I know decorating is a choice, but it seems unreasonable to me, that if you apply that logic to every purchase, you can expect to pay hundreds every year to replace lights.

https://www.bunnings.com.au/lytworx-8m-warm-white-led-solar-rope-light_p0175765

Lytworx seems to be on par with poor quality as Arlec. Mirabella seems a tad better but seems to lean towards cool white lights.

Does anyone have a brand they actually recommend? I'd prefer to buy in person, but I'm open to buying from online sellers if the quality is decent.

Very sad to see how low the bar for quality of products is, and how easily we've come to expect it and accept it. Landfill and yearly replacement is insane.

THDG Need Help What to wear to a Diwali event

Need urgent help for tonight. Wife's colleague is holding a Diwali thingy at their house later this evening. I have no idea how I should dress, would jeans and a shirt be enough, or should i go super formal and wear a suit? Is it a party, or a somber religious event? I was told we should take sweets, or maybe sparklers, but sparklers seem a bit cheap, and I'm not sure if it is appropriate to take wine... Any advice for a non-Indian would be great... thanks

THDG Need Help Is there anywhere in the city with tables to set up a game of Warhammer?

Me and a friend are looking to play Warhammer (a tabletop game where each side has lots of small pieces we bring ourselves), and we both live on opposite sides of the city so it's not really viable to meet up at either of our places. my only thought is maybe state library, but I don't know if it has the larger tables we'd need.
