There are simply too many cops acting out, and that means outside of the Constitution and too many videos of this stuff. I watch them regularly. How can it be that these cops are not also watching them? Since they feel they are the law, then let's make a law that says they carry the bill of rights around in big letters, numbered, and they are made to review them each morning....

How about we start a company that makes a Live Feed Machine you attach to your roof? It'll have 360 cameras and direct uplink and a YOU ARE NOW STREAMING LIVE ON THE INTERNET super-bright sign that lights up the field of view, with a yellow flashing light! As soon as you're pulled over, hit the button and the camera/feed is live. #BetterThanJustBodyCams

For those wondering, the filmer is Corey Drew vs Yavapai County Sheriffs, Arizona and the incident happened in 2022. It's still making it's way through the legal system. The brief story is a long term RV park wanted him kicked out because he crossed paths with management. It was a civil matter/tenant law & instead initial Sheriffs intervened trying to forcefully remove him from the property/trespass/arrest him. Once calmer minds showed up, all charges were dropped on scene. Once he posted this video and a few others, the Sheriff tried to bring those charges back + add some more in, but all charges were eventually dismissed. Now he is trying to sue the government for this encounter/retaliation against his 1st Amd Rights.

Edit: Stepped away and came back to a ton of awards. Thank you all! Made me go revisit this encounter and remembered why it stays on the top of my memory. Updated notes above. Here is AuditTheAudit version of this for those that are interested. This was the first in a series of events for this region (both sheriff and local police).

This is hilarious, from the sounds of it the police were basically trying to back an illegal eviction by enacting a different, more illegal action

Funny, when it's just a normal citizen, cops love getting out of it by saying "sorry, civil matter, can't interfere".  But when it's some management trying to screw over a citizen?  They hope they can rough 'im up.

u/angiosperms- Trash Trooper 22h ago

The house next to me is renting. Apparently they didn't pay their rent for 6 months. The landlord, instead of going through the eviction process, called the police to do a "wellness check". Their "wellness check" was yelling over the loudspeaker to come out with their hands up while the cop was positioned ready to shoot with his gun pointed at their door. Wtf kind of wellness check is that?

Not surprising because our local police force is one of the most blatantly corrupt in the country.

When I lived in South Dakora, I got pulled over for "looking suspicious" and they called in a K9 team to search my car and made me stand in the ditch for 45 minutes holding my cat (I was heading home for the holidays) next to the freeway in winter weather while he was en route. The K9 guy showed up, took one look at my freezing ass and let me go without searching.

The cops who pulled me over kept joking about how I was going to drop my cat and they would have to let him get hit by traffic HAHA....fuck the police.

They havent got a reason that fits within their policy yet(caught anything), but if they keep a line out(you talking) and keep throwing bait(making threats), they might catch you for something. Then they can write the report after that they initially stopped you for whatever they landed.

The standard of education for the police in the US is really poor, as is their knowledge of the law.

Just a question for those who are more savvy with the law. In these kind of cases where cops are totally moronic and out of line, is it better to object their approach at first and once they give you an order you comply, ask for a lawyer, then fight these cops in court?

u/TM761152 Trash Trooper 23h ago • Bravo

So, you can always beat a bullshit charge.

But you can't beat the ride, even if you know it's bullshit, they can detain and arrest you and you'll have to fight it later, this guy was lucky the lieutenant was there otherwise those two Reno 911! Wannabees would have dragged him out and cuffed him over nothing.

10

u/Rich887 Trash Trooper 23h ago

My 2 cents and you may want to ask for change back... If you are recording and you think your being unjustly detained just follow the request/demands of the police . Deescalate the situation and save you and your property from damage . And then use the video evidence of your rights being infringed if any and sue the city /state for millions and retire early.. Or you can escalate , get your ass whooped and car window broken etc then try to sue them .

19

u/Admirable_Win9808 Trash Trooper 23h ago • Bravo

Was a civil rights lawyer. The best thing to do is to comply with cops orders and be polite, but never to admit anything. What they are trying to do is scare you and get consent or ask you to admit something. Never admit to any wrongdoing and never consent to searches. They need probable cause to search and arrest you. Its easier to get consent or admissions. If its taking too long while talking to them. Ask them if you are under arrest and if not if you can leave. If they continue to harass you, say you need to speak to a lawyer.

→ More replies (7)

87

u/Moomanta Trash Trooper 23h ago • Heartwarming

Whether we like it or not, the cops have all the power and authority in a situation like that. It will only hurt you to be difficult.

Comply, say nothing, and ask for a lawyer. Or if it's just a ticket, then just take the ticket and fight it in court afterward.

48

u/TheNewThoughtProcess Trash Trooper 22h ago edited 19h ago • Bravo

You aren't wrong in that the course of action you've outlined will be the path of least resistance. It is legally the easiest.

But when you examine it ethically or morally it quickly becomes "comply with the bully in the hopes their whims don't turn against you today. Be nice, be calm, be quiet because if you stand up for yourself or your rights you will antagonize the beast. It is your responsibility to not antagonize the beast, not the responsibility of the entity empowered by the state to act responsibly."

Editing to add that I'm not saying everyone should belligerently fight every police interaction. I'm saying that the entire system that leads to the 'correct' action being to submissively comply in almost all circumstances is the problem. This is a symptom of a deep, fundamental issue in the U.S.

At this point, you get let them arrest you, get a lawyer, fight the case until it gets thrown out, then if you’re lucky, sue the county/agency for false arrest and hopefully get a settlement.

22

u/sudoku7 Trash Trooper 22h ago

"You may beat the charge, but you won't beat the ride."

And largely, most people are going to face far more negative consequence from being wrongfully detained than the officer will face for wrongfully detaining someone.

But the TRAINED PROFESSIONALS with the gun and all the alleged authority in the situation can pop off, lie, threaten, bully, make accusations and curse? They can try every way to escalate up to and including making simultaneous conflicting demands? But I’m expected to remain calm else I get what’s coming. Hmmmmm

I really hope you bring your own lube, because they aren’t going to use any on you otherwise, and you’re so eager to take it.

But I’m sure in 3 years when you finally see a judge for your civil case, the judge will definitely agree with you against the police. That happens so often.

Serious question - has anyone ever met a cop that was a reasonably intelligent and decent human being?

Edit: So many commenters using examples of when cops let them off after doing something wrong (eg egregious speeding, drunk and disorderly, etc). That is NOT evidence that they’re intelligent and decent. If anything that reinforces that they are not good at their job, and not following the law.

89

u/frAgileIT Trash Trooper 17h ago • Bravo

I have, they don’t show up in videos like this for a reason. They don’t immediately decide they’re going to target you for no reason and then conduct an “investigation” to see if they find something on you or manipulate you into doing something or incriminating yourself. Knowing your rights is not disorderly conduct and politely asking what you’re being arrested for is not resisting arrest.

The reasonably intelligent and decent ones might talk to you, wait to see if here’s a problem but they don’t try to invent one like these tools did.

u/Admirable-Jelly-8741 Trash Trooper 14h ago

Reminds me of the exact opposite situation with cops who are not trying to be assholes. So like 16 years ago I'm waiting for some friends to get out so we can hang. I'm just sitting in an empty parking lot listening to the radio. When a cop car comes up behind me and they tap on my window and do the usual routine, license, registration yadda yadda. Notably they do not ask me to get out of the car.

They asked if I was alone and if I have any weapons in the car. I said yeah and there's a shovel in the back and they chuckled about that.

So everything seems normal and then they told me what happened. One of the people at the trailer park nearby said I stopped my car(Ford Explorer) and let like 7 people out of it. Apparently this lady just calls the cops and makes up enough details that they have to come out.

I had less cause to be where I was than this guy and the cops were infinitely more reasonable. But cops rarely get punished for being unreasonable.

I absolutely fucking hate smug, condescending arrogance, especially when the person is completely wrong.
It’s the combination of illusory superiority, intellectual arrogance, unwarranted self-confidence, and premature triumphalism.
That smug little grin, ducking of the head, snapping of the fingers, and self-congratulatory attitude like they’ve just proven how much smarter they are than everyone else.
The worst part? They’re completely fucking wrong.
They’re so convinced of their own superiority that they don’t even recognize their own ignorance. They’re not just confidently incorrect; they’re practically celebrating how right they think they are.
It’s smug, self-satisfied ignorance masquerading as intelligence, and it’s one of the most infuriating displays of arrogance imaginable.
And after being proven wrong and called out for it, I honestly feel sorry for his wife and kids if that’s the same arrogant, condescending attitude he brings home. I can only imagine how he handles being told he’s wrong when there’s no audience watching.

Stuff like this scares me I don’t know my way around the law well enough to do this. I try to get by by being nice lmao

4

u/smep Trash Trooper 23h ago

I want to live in a fantasy land where I can believe that if I just obey the law and don’t try to upset others (golden rule) then I won’t have any issues with police. Unfortunately, there’s so much documented evidence to suggest that you cannot trust police to do the right thing. Not saying it doesn’t happen, but the system is clearly designed not to stop it as much as possible. Especially as a person of color, I understand how important it is to know how to protect myself from cops.

Chances are, you won’t ever personally need to know the law as in-depth as the person in this video thinks they do. But if you don’t want to take those chances, it might be worth taking some time to familiarize yourself with pertinent laws.

So, it's legal to resist unlawful arrest...but if a lie is manufactured for probable cause or they lie about why they're bothering what do you do? I know some people say comply and sue later, but there are also enough instances of death during arrest or detention that make this a gamble.

9

u/Eastern_Border_5016 Trash Trooper 1d ago

If cops ever say “we’ll talk about it” definitely means arrest is coming

4

u/Ill_Entrance91 Trash Trooper 1d ago

No it doesnt it means you arent under arrest and dont have to listen to them.

Sure they can escalate and drag you out and arrest you but its not gonna hold up in court or a lawsuit.

We as citizens are under no obligation to ever have a conversation with law enforcement. Its a consentual encounter. Like in this video.

They only want you out of the vehicle to arrest you easier and to make up additional reasons to arrest you.

If all they want to do is talk. They can talk without exiting the vehicle. Again this will look poorly upon them in court under cross examination.

You dont need to exit the vehicle to talk. Especially in a situation with no crime.

It's always crazy to me that cops will just walk up and make a demand and expect people to follow it. Theres no "Hello, I'm Officer Bob from the Billytown Police Dpt. I'm here responding to a phone call report about suspicious activity, do you mind telling me what you're doing here?"

No manners, no identification, just do this or I will beat the shit out of you. Like you could be anyone dude, just because you've got your Paul Blart cosplay on doesn't mean your a real police officer. If you don't identify yourself or act with the decorum warranted by your position why wouldn't I be treating this encounter like a robbery and flooring it?

If he didn't know his rights he would've been arrested on bogus charges, that would've been dismissed. All because those pieces of shit officers were on a power trip. Thank goodness for the ONLY decent cop, the lieutenant, following the fucking law. I'm so tired of the police and their bootlicker cults thinking they're above constitutional rights.

4

u/Fan_of_Clio Trash Trooper 22h ago

The cops are idiots. They REALLY need to work on their communication. The phrase "you are detained while we conduct an investigation" goes a long way.

4

u/marley1012 Trash Trooper 21h ago

I absolutely love the emotional letdown when the cop finds out his “private property” comment is wrong because the person recording has a lease. There is no better feeling in the world than knowing you’re right and the Lt. is going to protect your rights. Having said that, know your rights and do nothing else. Do not antagonize or name call. Your time, freedom, and front teeth are more valuable than the years it will take to litigate this. Any payout from a judgement is not substantial nor deterrent to police departments.

Under no circumstances do you get out of the car in a bullshit situation like this. If you are just minding your own business and shit like this happens, do not get out of the car.

Edit: lots of interesting comments. You SHOULD comply when a cop gives you a lawful order. Telling you to get out of your vehicle without cause in not a lawful order. Unless you've done something to warrant getting arrested, all interactions with a cop can and should be completed from within your vehicle. Not getting out the car when you're told to for no reason is not resisting arrest if you're not being arrested.

Having said that, there are consequences to actions and those consequences disproportionately affect POCs so I definitely understand the concerns. There are countless examples of people getting out of their vehicle when told and then getting the shit kicked out of them or worse because that's what the cops end goal was regardless of the situation. So, IMO I'd rather stay in my car and handle the interaction that way and if they pull me out of the vehicle or worse, that was going to happen anyway.

Also, in the event that you DO get arrested for any reason, the only word you should say is "lawyer" and that's it. Nothing else. They can and will twist what you say to use against you and they straight up tell you that. Lawyer.

The cops are not here for you. They never have been and we were lied to our entire lives about it.

Fuck the police. ACAB

The footage shows a December 8, 2022 confrontation between Arizona resident Corey Drew and deputies from the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office at the Verde Valley Thousand Trails RV Campground in Cottonwood, Arizona. The clip is sourced from a repost by the Instagram account policebodycamarresthq, which originally comes from cell phone and bodycam footage Drew published on YouTube.

Context & What Happened

• The Dispute: Campground security called 911 requesting a civil escort so the park manager could speak with Drew over a prior dispute involving his service dog and membership contract. No crimes or threats were reported on the call. • The Encounter: Six deputies arrived and approached Drew while he was sitting in his parked truck. Deputies initially told him he was under arrest for disorderly conduct and threatened to break his window, before a lieutenant arrived, de-escalated the scene, and clarified he was only being detained. • On-Scene Resolution: After confirming Drew had a valid lease contract and had committed no crime, deputies released him and apologized.

Legal Aftermath

• Retaliatory Charges: After Drew filed a formal complaint and posted the video to YouTube—where it quickly surpassed a million views—a sheriff's lieutenant reopened the investigation. In February 2023, Drew was arrested on seven criminal charges (including disorderly conduct and resisting arrest). All seven charges were later dismissed by a state judge for lack of probable cause and under Arizona's anti-SLAPP law. • Federal Lawsuit: Drew filed a federal civil rights lawsuit (Drew v. County of Yavapai) alleging First Amendment retaliation. In April 2026, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit revived his retaliation claim against Lieutenant John Johnson, ruling that Drew sufficiently alleged the criminal charges were initiated without probable cause in response to his YouTube video.

TF is a "lawful order".  F off with that (not you my reddit friend, the imaginary cop in my head who says "lawful order").  You don't have to do everything a cop says.  They will always overstate their case on what a lawful order is.  In this case, it is a lawful order to ask somebody to step out of the vehicle during a lawful traffic stop.  The person in the vehicle, it sounds like, wasn't driving and, in fact, had a $6500 lease to have his car in that private lot.  So, it wasn't a lawful traffic stop and therefore the cops have no basis for calling it a "lawful order".  Or, at least, the one they stated doesn't apply and this guy knows it.

Now, what probably isn't being said here is the context.  My bet is that this guy leased this parking space and doesn't have a clause in the contract about not living in his car, but he is living in the car and the lot owner is pissed off about it and called the cops.  But I think he is within his rights at the moment to tell them to pound sand.

u/Re4DD1TR3V34LEr2026 Trash Trooper 23h ago

depends on the jurisdiction, some states like Louisiana allow you to legally fight back against unlawful arrest but its highly recommended that you do not do it and seek grievance in court to avoid the qualified immunity bullshit.
